The old Ford XLT150 SRB that I bought from a TC member (for the life of me can't remember his name/handle at the mo!) about 4 years ago finally got taken out of the box and fixed up today.

It arrived in reasonable condition already. The plan was to built an authentic runner with a restored shell, but the original shell that came with it has really grown on me so I'm keeping it as is.

New bits/upgrades include:

- Tamiya ball diff
- Stainless steel screws
- Alloy wheels (Pargu) and new rubber
- New radio box from re-re
- Coil over shocks (RC channel) all round
- NIB vintage Acoms AP35 speedo
- New re-re front bumper
- Not new but fairly mint vintage Tamiya black motor
- 2S LIPO "hidden" inside a classic vintage hump back case

Couple of things to finish up like a missing real tailgate + sunroof (I have a replacements, currently in primer), tire lettering and it needs a new set of ball cups and a receiver. Other than that pretty much ready to run now.

Looking at the spec, other than the stainless screws this actually was my dream SRB as a youngster back in about 1983, but couldn't afford it. So I guess today I built my nostalgic dream buggy :)

It does look like the one I sold a few years ago? Do regret selling it when I look back!

Been past them in asda a few times now, still at £14.50 and with the summer so far, loads left. Have you had a chance to use it? Worth getting one for next year, just in case ?

tbh i was planning on useing it last sat but the weather put paid plans to that idea hopefully is the sun is forcast for this sat it will get its first outing. I have been watching utube for some helpful pointers as it's not as simple as a normal bbq and i think i will have to make a few ajustments after the first use but tbh at that price you can't really complain

The new ball cups you need, are they the white bits in the front uprights??? I might have a set here, but I am in the USA, so we better make it worth the postage depending on where in the world you are.

Thanks Chris but no it's the black ones for the steering tie rods. I have plenty of them, just haven't got to it yet.

@moffman - nope, different one. This was not in that good condition, had red wheels when it came and the body is different. It is red though ;). I'm liking the red colour - grew on me.

Tamico have got the Monster Beetle 2015 at 119.99 Euro this week. I had a few parts to order that only Tamico had in stock so it made perfect sense to me to include one.

Royal Mail pricing for you - check out local courier services such as MyHermes, Collect+, UPS Access Point - many have drop off points at local shops, petrol stations, newsagents, off-licences.

Probably around 1/2 the cost of Royal Mail.

Went to the beach today with my lads, their Super Fighters and my newly restored Dirt Thrasher. Had a fun time. After 1 1/2 NiMH packs the ESC on the Dirt Thrasher went up in smoke! Very impressive amounts of black smoke started gushing out from under the body, which  I more or less tore off, fearing it would melt. The motor was stuck on full throttle, luckily the car was stuck in deep sand or it would have been shooting off to I dont't know where. Had to disconnect the battery under serious risk to my fingertips and then smothered everything in large amounts of sand while being cheered on by my sons :) .

I was using a Modelcraft VR18T ESC (came with the buggy when I bought it) and a 19T brushed motor with standard gearing. This is the first time anything has actually gone up in flames in my limited modelling experience, so can anybody point me to where i went wrong? Run time too long for the ESC on sand?I hadn't had any problems running on gravel or tarmac. Should I have changed the gearing with a 19 T motor?

Found myself some time to get some RC stuff done. Harvested the battery connector and motor cables from my dead Tamiya ESC and soldered them onto my Quickrun 1060. Now that was an easy setup, why has it taken me so long to get one! Stadium Thunder is now back up and running..

The X150 got a new tailgate and sunroof today, courtesy of a Blackfoot tree. Also got to use the spray booth again and help conclude that dishcloths make the best filters :)

Pretty happy with the colour match. I mixed it myself - Tamiya X-7 red with a tiny dash of orange. Left matt to match the original faded and matt'ed off shell.

Sunroof needs another couple of coats but I ran out of red so that'll have to wait.... :P

Anyone know where I can get the Ford tailgate lettering without having to spend £20 at Shapeways (or make them myself) ?

Got this slightly used TA04 SSG Carbon lower deck in the mail today and pieced it together with the hard to find J Parts I sourced from my LHS. Too bad Tamiya doesn't do this SSG carbon anymore, I think it looks great!

I've got to cut back a little bit on my R/C spending now.  Just a little bit though :)

Do German cars have indicator stalks?........ because I never see any German car driver use them? See if you can be the first one! Lovely car though mate😉

Swapped an M03 chassis for this TL01 and rather attractive Mercedes DTM shell. Didn't come with wheels or a spoiler so some BBS two piece wheels will fill the arches and until I can find a genuine one this spoiler will do nicely.

Now just awaiting a receiver, which is due to arrive tomorrow, and I'll take it for a spin.

Still on the lookout for a "F O R D" set of tailgate letters....

I shipped out the Optima to G.S. yesterday, so its making the long trek across the pond to a new home. Today I changed the plugs on a bunch of cheap-o speed controllers from ebay. For those who don't know you can get brushed speed controllers on ebay for $6 USD. They are not the best, and they only work with stock or mild motors. But who cares for $6!  -lol  Lastly I bought another can of paint for my VW body.

Looking very good!😉, Keep looking on eBay there is a guy often selling ford decals for the ranger and pumpkin! Although I can't see them on at the moment!
