Being half-unemployed I am having a little more time to do other things, and in a effort to forget about issues related to my current situation I have been spending more time out in the bench working on my RC projects lately. I'm afraid this can be a long post, so I'll divide it in "what I did last night" and "what I did today". Please bear with me, as there will be many photos below ;)

Here's what I spent Friday evening on:

1) I decided to copy the rear brace of the Graupner buggy. The Hornet runs absolutely great with this little mod! I copied the metal piece with some aluminum bit, and I used a bar that was sent to me by Crash Cramer or Beefmuffin years ago, and a couple of nuts to keep it in place.

In place:

2) The tip of one of the front shock towers on my buggy was shot. So I had to replicate some old part that I remember CRP used to sell. I used a thick piece of aluminum. Please note I yet have to sand it and spray some black enamel over it. I am very happy with the results, this not the 1st time I am doing this.

I had to make a cardboard pattern :)

While working on the aluminum I had a little accident :)

Anyway, the results here:

3) The IH tractor project. I fixed the rear "tray" with screws, and got the main decals in place. Oh, I'm excited!

One more step, yes, but now I have to work on that grill and the seat. Electronics and servos will be installed only after I am done with the model.

RY3yWJ7.jpg

4) A rear bar-body posts support for my 1989 Kyosho Hi-Rider Corvette. I cut some plastic from a plastic clothes peg hanger that I bent so I could replicate the missing one. It was the last part I needed to complete the vehicle. I might get a replacement body, but that would have to be --as the old song goes- "someday".

TOE6Ie5.jpg

5) Last but not least, my 1988 Avante needed rear shocks. I had a pair of Frog ones mounted, but they were too obvious. So I got these old Mugen shocks that work & fit the car alright. I don't really like the blue anodize part in them (blue anod. looks tacky to my taste), but I had no other option.

One day I hope to work on the body. There must be some better body color to match this sissy car.

What I did today comes next. Sorry guys for the length of the post!

What I did today... let me see.
I went to the fleamarket this morning, and I got some interesting toy to resell and a couple of treats to myself

I come across three literally HUGE and heavily illustrated German Graupner and Robbe RC catalogs (1989, 1990, and 1991). These things are so heavy they're uncomfortable to carry along, between 600-1000 pages each in full color! Days like these definitely heavier than my groceries  Anyway, page after page I am finding some neat stuff in them. It is a bit mindboggling Robbe & Graupner sold in Germany RC kits by Kyosho, Mugen, Royal and other companies under their brands. Oh, and the Futaba radios, wow! I am having so much fun with these. Here's a couple of pictures:

I can't help to wonder what brand is this juicy Kenworth tractor truck!

7xkPk3m.jpg

Here's the Fire-Fox buggy. It seems to be a Tamiya Bigwig with some hard plastic bodyshell. Oh, the gearcases look suspiciously similar to our beloved 10th anniversary MEGA buggy! Also, what is that Wild Willy??? I did not know there was a Robbe/Graupner knocked it off, too.

RKXSQPA.jpg

And as I was leaving I got to spot this dirty gem on some Argentinian immigrant blanket. Been looking for a good Lesney 928 for quite some time, and I finally found it. Not too cheap unfortunately (about $1.75) but I am already in the process of restoring it to former glory. I'm a happy camper! :silly:

bx1wwK7.jpg

Here's the sad looking Porsche already siting in my strip box after a shower of graffiti remover ;) I'll fix the cast and then a shiny lil enamel will bring it back to life to grace my bedroom's windowsill.

Tomorrow I'm off to the other fleamarket. Let's hope for a couple more reasons to smile there.

You all have a MEGA Sunday! :)

I upgraded the speed controller on my Pumpkin, and on my HIGHroller. I'm staying brushed on them. But now I can swap to faster motors when the stockers die.

I had been running brushless on the HIGHroller. But the 8.5 was eating too many transmission gears. So back to brushed for longevity!

A brushless HIGH ROLLER!? Isn't that what they call flirtin with disaster. Have you got any videos of such combination working. Replacement parts for that kind of classic are not easy to find.

I have a short bit of video previously linked on this forum. But I ran it brushless for a while. I had already swapped the plastic gear in the rear end prior to installing that setup. It was actually reliable if you kept it under 60% throttle. But above that it would shake violently, balloon the rear tires until they explode the side walls, and shred the teeth off the rear end gears. So now its back to a stock brushed motor and it should be dead on reliable again. But I do have an assortment of new spare rear end gears stashed away. So parts are not a major concern.

I do agree with the point you made, which is why I swapped all the brushless setups off all my cars/trucks.

Today I cleaned up some wiring on a couple cars. I also will be swapping the speed controller on my TA02 chassis since its got a 1/18th scale speed controller driving the stock silver can 540. It works, but its the extreme limit for that speed controller to handle. Plus it was the only extra controller that I had at that time. So a regular TEU-104BK will be swapped on in the near future.

Today I have mostly been thwarted on eBay.

First on a re-release RC10 - winning bidder in the last few seconds, then it ended up going for over £100 more.

Next an Avante 2001 - missed out on that by a fiver.

Lastly another RC10 that I thought was priced too high. But I had exchanged a few messages with the seller and, after the other frustrations, I came to make an offer, only to find that the RC10 and the seller have disappeared from eBay.

So I'm not best pleased :(

So a while back I mentioned that I purchased a giant amount of materials to make a large drone track for a RC flying event. So I wanted to share a teaser picture as I got it built today. But I still have to finish painting the various parts white, and add the LED lighting, etc. Here's a friend flying through one of the gates.

Not quite today, but last Wednesday. I went to the beach with TC member @Gooneybird at Castricum aan Zee here in the Netherlands, for a bit of bashing in the sunshine.

Dug out my Bowler project late last night and drilled two front body post holes. Hmm, too small and not in line.

Work out how far down I need to chop my rear post to accept the extensions.

Ah well, will enlarge them and see if the body is true when all four are done.

Then real life got in the way with garage reorganisation and a 'recycling centre' run.

With all the Tamiya now at the back of the garage (aside from what is under /on my desk at work) it led to a 'what is in all these boxes? There seem to be more than when I last looked?) question from Mrs Crumble.

Really must stop buying cars and finish what I have...

...apart from my birthday next month, of course!

That looks pretty cool, I am finding it very much a shame that I don't own an RC BOAT as it would come in real handy these last couple of days. I am still dry and so is the collection of Tamiya, but I am not sure for how much longer we can sustain these downpours and NOT get water in the house. I am a bit on high ground, but how do you say that knowing you are only about 170 feet above sea level??? Thanks to all the folks who have emailed me a bit worried on my account, I can't thank you enough for the concern and well wishes, I think we will make it through the next couple of days but the folks south of me in HOUSTON, well, they will be making a clean up for some time to come, perhaps into the New Year at this point in time. I don't mean that to be sarcastic, it literally will take a long time to clean up after a record setting rain event like this.

Our evening news had quite a big story on Texas and the rain, Houston looks devastated and it will take a long time to recover. I Really feel for everyone there, while kayaking down the road would be fun for an afternoon I can't imagine what having 2 feet of water in your lounge would be like having never lived through any kind of natural disaster myself (Chrsitchurch and Kaikoura are a long way from me). I also did wonder if any Tamiya's were ruined but then realised they would have been the first things moved to the attic!

I'm right there with you brother. Our house floods every 15 years as we live pretty close to the Mississippi river. Flooding sucks! But there is a sarcastic good part to having that drama in that it forces you to get rid of the old junk that accumulates in everyone's house. So at least once the clean up is done, you will have more room for Tamiya's!  -lol

Buy a boat, they are fun!

Crash, glad to hear you're still doing ok.  I texted a friend of mine who lives near Houston this morning, and his house has avoided flooding so far as well.  Fingers crossed the situation will stay good for you and my friend.

Thanks Y'all, it has been an unending barage of rain mostly where I live, the footage is mostly of the downtown area where streets literally turn into rivers with heavy rains and when the bayous overflow their banks. I am a bit more concerned for the area of Texas called Rockport where Harvey made landfall as I have learned through one passed email that there is a lot of damage to EVERYTHING there. It was mentioned that not one tree had any leaves on them anymore and of course there must be plenty of structures that have seen damage.

So far, we have been on high enough ground to avoid water coming in the house and neither have we experienced any street flooding in our neighborhood and directly surrounding area. There is even a grocery store or two open in case I need more beer since it looks like myself and the wife won't be going to work all week long. At least she will get paid for it, I unfortunately work as contract, so I get paid only when I actually work. Ah well, we will make it through and I pray that all the really devastated areas will be okay and get back to a normal state of mind soon enough.

During the historic flood of 1993, we had gully washer rain storms everyday for over 30 days straight. I had 5 feet of water downstairs in my house. While yes we all send prayers for those affected, the other truth is that everyone needs to find peace in the fact that its completely out of our control. Everyone is a victim, so all you can do is find peace and look to the future. In '93 I sat in my upstairs window and drove RC boats in the flood water for entertainment. The phone company building across the street was manned 24/7 with pumps running, etc. Those guys were fishing from the roof of the building. I also drove my Bullhead in the flood water, as they will float for a while, until the tires fill up with water. The best thing those of us who are not directly affected by this latest tragedy is to donated money to the Red Cross. Then find ways to help once the clean up starts. The damage will be absurd. But there's nothing you can do about it, but clean up and start over. Things will get better.

So finally found the problem with the Boomerang and that is sorted now. Was going to put my 13.5T into the Boomerang but decided to leave it in the TT02B for now, until that needs to be put back to a torque tuned for our planned back yard race series this summer. Put the new tyres on the TT02B, just new kit tyres, and in the backyard its a changed car. Its running a trackstar 13.5T and 19T pinion, TBLE-02S and 7.2v NiMH and the only upgrade is bearings, but it is really nice to drive in the relatively small space (about 400sqm of backyard, that will be enormous in some parts of the world (I wish it was in london, I'd sell it and retire) and tiny in others) since the tyres have sorted out the issue of it getting stuck. I haven't mowed the lawn in a while since the weather has been so bad either, with the old tyres it would get within 3 feet of a long blade of grass and claim to be stuck.

I'm hoping to get to the track this week for some practice and I'll take the Plasma Edge this time for a laugh (wife won't be laughing when the inevitable happens and new chassis and stuff gets delivered...)  I like taking a thrid car as I only have 2 shorties which gives me about 25min per race car, then I have a stick lipo and 2 NiMH which can get me another hour or so with a basher.

So the Boomerang is going back on the shelf where it was always intended to go with occasional use,  and the Plasma Edge is back to my main basher. Now to convince my son to do the same and leave his Novafox on the shelf and run his Plasma Edge!

Willy has got himself a new ride! Cut my TT01 race car's new body out. Not sure on the colour yet, I'm thinking either bright red or British racing green.

I'm betting on the Kamtec Kyosho Nostalgic...exact wheelbase unknown but appears to fit the touring class....

However, I didn't think it came with a windscreen or lights....

The TBG body includes 'most' of a driver.

Hoping Kamtec produce a GT version someday.

Fitted a new bodyshell and wings to my f103, it's painted with ps-46 backed with ps-5 and random decals that I had lying around. Since I'm going to be using the shell for racing I haven't put too much care into painting but I'm pretty happy with the results. All I need to do now is paint the drivers overalls and helmet and it'll be done.
