Started looking at all my SRB spares, wondering if there is enough for a scorcher and a superchamp - hmmm

Is that truly a question or more of a lament that you might have that many spares??? I do have some SuperChamp bits here NIP, so if you want to see about more...

Had a problem with the turret rotator MSc in one of my tiger tanks (I'm using a vintage 3 step, and it was only working on one side). Investigated and found the retaining nut on the top had stripped the thread on the shaft, so the wiper plate was loose, so filed it off and made a new pin and sleeve. Made the sleeve to a bit of a tighter tolerance, and left a bigger collar at the end of the pin to solder the wires to (Need to get 2 on there for my application), and didn't cut the thread all the way down like the original one. Whacked it all back together and it worked  a treat :)

Not that many spares lol!

I still have a complete SuperChamp awaiting a clean and rebuild.

Just trying to sort out what to do..

> SuperChamp complete

> Rough Rider - rebuilt a few years ago with brushless and ball diff (never powered up)

> Spare vintage gear cases

> Spare new gear cases

> Complete rear end from a Fighting Buggy bar the gear box

> Pargu bklack anodized super champ chassis plates upper and lower

> Various super champ chassis parts / spacers etc

So thoughts are to

1. leave the original super champ as is

2. put the rough rider back to a silver can and gears

3. take the ball diff to the new gearcases and build it up with the pargu chassis plates and fighting buggy rear end.

Then see what else i need to build up another

Picked up a couple of bits that had been delivered to my folks.

A set of JC Racing 2.2" wheels for my RC10. These are to be mated with a pair of Schumacher Cut Stagger front tyres. With a pair of Schumacher CAT Blocks for the rears.

A Tekin Gen3 Redline 17.5T brushless motor I got from eBay for £15 plus shipping. It looks in really good condition and apparently has only done 3 or 4 club nights. It's also destined for the RC10.

I wondered how the wheels would look with the tyres on them. It'll only take 5 minutes I thought. Half an hour later (!) I had the tyres fitted and a massive blister on my left thumb.

Those cut staggers were a proper pain to fit. I couldn't get them to sit nicely on the wheels. I did get them on in the end but not entirely happy with the fit.

Just done a search and found that it's recommended to trim the bead on the tyre a little to get them to sit properly.

Taking them off, trimming and re-fitting will be a job for another day.

I cleaned up and applied a Freakeskinz wrap to my new (to me) Futaba 4PX transmitter.  I ran out of slots on my 3PL.  I picked this one up from a fellow racer.  It's less than a year old, came with 3 receivers, a Protek aluminum case, and rechargeable battery for less than 1/2 of what a new transmitter would have cost.  People like me benefit when racers change sponsors.  :)

I love those kind of racers, make them your friend! A lot of bargains to be had here when Team Durango disappeared.

I very nearly went with TD when I started racing but my love for Big T held fast.  I wasn't very competitive with my TRF 201 on the black groove clay but the track has been completely redone to astroturf now.  My worn clay tires didn't really have much grip but I can already tell that my TRF 211XM is going to fare much better on this track than my 201 ever did on the old one.  I just need to glue up my carpet tires and learn how to use that 4PX.  Holy cow there's not an instruction manual, there's a full-on instruction book!

I know what you mean, my MT4S has a book as well.  Had it out many times trying to sort issues, usually at home but sometimes at the track.  Its so different from the last time I raced, back then as long as the crystal's matched you were fine!  Now there are so many settings and options, I know I'm only using about 10% of the capability!

I have been eyeing up the TRF201 and 211's on TamiyaUSA, they are so cheap compared to retail, but won't be buying another for a while.  It would be a backwards step from my Ultima RB6.6 I think.  I went with whatever came up secondhand rather than being too picky about brand.  I think the next cars I will buy new though and then can be a bit more picky.

What class(es) do you run the 201/211 in?

I have to admit, I *love* my TRF 201 but it's simply outclassed on hard packed, black groove clay.  If I had a loose dirt track, or maybe a sod track I think the 201 would rule.  I'm such a Big T fan that when I looked to update my race rig to a mid-motor design I did some hard looking.  I almost went with Yokomo, which if I were to abandon TRF that's likely where I'd go but X-Ray looks pretty good too.  There's something cool and unique about running the only Tamiya though!

The 201 is "retired" for now.  At any rate I run stock 17.5T on both cars.  LRP/Trinity on the 201 and SpeedPassion on the 211.  If I were to take on a 2nd class I'd probably go 4WD SCT.  My boy runs a Losi SCTE and it looks like a blast.

Went to the racetrack for some practice. Luckily i took my 2 Plasma Edge II's to muck around with my son because I forgot my controller...the TT02B did ok, but one thing that I found frustrating was not being able to correct the car in the air, not sure if it is the ESC (TBLE) not being as good as the trackstar or the chassis. Was still fun, but have some repairs to do as TT02B's don't like cartwheels!

I'd put my money on the chassis.  That thing is a tank and we all know how responsive those are.  ;) I ran my TRF 201 with the TBLE-02S for half a race season.  Compared to a race ESC it's a bit mushy but its response time was fine.

Any second class should be pretty easy given you already run 2wd buggy. I find when they/I am on form it is effortless, but also so unforgiving of the slightest mistake. 4wd buggy is a breeze in comparison. SCT isn't very popular at my club, only ever a handful of entries but the big bkdy provides a lot of protection so they look like good fun.

I think you're right, well, the battery in the chassis. I realised I was using a 3800 NiMH which is really heavy, and given they are lengthwise in the chassis I'm pretty sure its that, just couldn't get the car to move.

I have found a bit of damage on the car, front arms have split so will need to order some more. I'm reluctant to spend too much on these cars as they are more like loaners now and don't get used that much compared to the other cars.

Cheers Chris - I'm probably OK on the vintage spares for the SC - I gathered it together about 6 years ago, but never got round to the project.

Had a spending spree on re-re parts for other SRB builds though -  once i'd sorted the combined international postage i sort of got carried away and ended up with 50% of a fighting buggy lol!

As a result I decided I'd better get organised, and started an excel spreadsheet for what now looks like the SuperChamp rebuild, a Fighting Buggy build, a brushless Scorcher build and a stock Rough Rider build. I'm convincing myself its the best way to use the parts up lol!

Got my Super Champ rebuild almost done using a rere body, front shocks, wheels/tires and an aluminum rear bumper from Pargustore. I'm waiting on the front springs which I could have taken from my other parts car but I'm going to save that for my rough rider rebuild which will be all original minus the roof section for the body.

I had a badword of a time getting the rear center section into the tires! After a wile of swearing and sore fingers, I knew there had to be an easy fix for this. I ended up using 2 plastic scrapers that were almost the width of the wheel and used that to spread the rubber apart while I pushed the wheel down between the scrapers. Took a few  seconds and they were in! Now I just have to decide on paint color, not sure if I want box art or something else?

I remember doing my first set of 1.5" SRB wheels, 6 years ago,  and struggling with those centre inserts - but I've built up a set of 1.7" and 1.5" last week with no problems whatsoever - just pushed the insert into the centre hole until about 45% in and rotated into the far side tyre wall, pushed a little more and popped the near side tyre wall over the insert.  Perhaps I got lucky last week lol!

Saw this Toyota iQ yesterday, started thinking the colour might look OK on a SC / FB shell with the red orange yellow decals

Not only is that NiMh going to be heavy but it won't have the punch of a LiPo if it's drawn down even 25% of full.  Couple those two factors in with how heavy the TT-02B tub is and you have a tank.  The upside is that lighter race buggies won't be shouldering you to the side as they try to pass!

Sven I messed up somewhere over the rainbow... I mean somewhere along the way :( I tried to buy those awesome HPI fans and got the correct front wheels but bought the wrong rea wheels and tyres... pfft that's a costly mistake :(

I think I know what I did.. I thought there were wider rear wheels than the front... but Msybe you are supposed to use the same wheel front and rear which is HPI 114638 ( 26mm)

What I bought was wider rears ( looking again now these might be 1/8 meant for the HPI WR8)

Incorrect rear wheels - HPI 114367 (57x35mm)

Incorrect rear tyres - HPI 4475 (57x35mm)

PS, got the wheel and tyre decals today thank you very much, they are too nice :)

No probs;)

I'm pretty sure the Turbo fans were just meant for the fronts anyway, all the pictures of escorts Ive seen are fronts only.

Haha thats true, the only other buggy at the track was my son's TT02B and he was having trouble just staying on.  In saying that I was the only one who ended up in a puddle, amazing how he was all over the show and off the track all the time, but managed to avoid all puddles and mine finished up squarely in one.

I didn't realise how heavy the TT02B is but have now compared to the race kits and you're right, so combined with the NiMH it was a dog to drive at the track even with a 13.5T brushless.  Fun around the backyard though, and I prefer the look of the Plasma Edge II to the cab forward modern buggy designs.
