Decided far too many stickers on this for my liking so it's going into a bag of oven cleaner

Disassembled the chassis, removed the ball diff and put back some unused vintage diff gears. Cleaning up the customrear cage before it goes back together, plus need to find a Mk 1 rear arm. Ball diff will go into brushless scorcher when I get to that parts project.

Ran my second M03 with the Mini Cooper shell... this has an undetermined brushless motor as it has no writing but I'd guess it's 4000kv.

Now I know the difference between normal Tamiya M tyres and their S Grip tyres... god they are worlds apart.. the S Grip are like glue.. braking is amazing but don't run 4 of these and expect to sideways skid like you can on normal tyres.. they grip too much... as shown here.

Another thing... try to avoid park debris on the path when going full pelt

I started making some side "roads" off of my main rc track so I can drive my XV-01 rally car on them.  The idea is to have them snake through and cross over the main track.   I've been buying dwarf alberta spruce trees and small arborvitaes to make it look like a miniature forest rally course.

I also started cutting out the VW body that's going on the XV-01 chassis.

Cheers Percy hope all is well not been on for ages

Just lost interest mate, and not much spare time. Doing a few long outstanding SRB projects at the moment but that's it.

I've been pottering along with a Nikko Dictator restoration on and off for the past few weeks.

It's not going to be one of those pristine factory perfect deals, I don't have the expertise or patience but I was confident I could make it look nice enough to be worth having on the shelf and run well enough for the occasional outing.

It was very neglected when I got it, it had been run at the beach and not washed off, lots or rust and dirt and missing parts.

The gearboxes had the usual 30 year old yellow gunge inside.

A cheap ultrasonic cleaner and your everyday "multi surface cleaner" made short work of the grease and I installed bearings before rebuilding the boxes.

Nearly every metal component was rusted, they were never going to look shiny again so they went in the ultrasonic cleaner too, with white vinegar this time. Doing this eats away the rust but also tends to give the metal a "black rust" coating anywhere there was damage which actually protects the metal from further corrosion. Most of those screws were completely orange before being treated.

The rear motor had the worst of the rust damage by far.

By the time the vinegar had done it's job the casing somewhat resembled the surface of the moon!

But miraculously it came back to life!

I'm not sure if I'll actually use these motors again but it was satisfying to get it working again either way!

As it stands the electronics and motors need to be refitted and a few missing parts replaced but she's looking much better, there's a couple of grazes that need sanding down and crack under the rear wing which I'll try and glue together tightly to hide the line but otherwise I think she will look pretty good on the shelf unless you press your face up to it!
