shell Nr 2 is now cut out. Son wants box art BUT with white changed to silver. hope to have it ready later today.

Also been out shopping. Bought 2 Projects, a Terra Scorcher in decent nick BUT tires are all scrap, shocks are Al upgrades but standards in spares, body is ropy but salvageable but red......can you get the paint of a pollycarb shell? Also a front bumper part missing which I reckon I have (need to check) but the big disappointment was the chassis has a front body mount cracked....same as my Thundershot.......oh well. Really strange the drive rod from front to back box is not installed, was sitting in the chassis but when I started fiddling it came out.

Also a Super Sabre in about same condition. Chassis seems ok, body is really rough. needs some suspension parts which I have so may be able to get both in decent running order with a few more ££

Sometimes they go chuck in a few spares to help/confuse us.

Today I resisted buying a TB03 ( been eyeing it for 2 days now)  on special offer of the week at Tamico for €99.. its the cheapest anywhere else and has cool looking lay down front shocks.... I hate having will power but thought one of you guys might bite?

https://tamico.de/Tamiya-Calsonic-Impul-GT-R-R35-TB-03-Bausatz-58434

I saw that too. I don’t know what hop up availability for it is like now but like most, the steers nag needs an upgrade, then the x and the y. I saw this on another forum which put me back in my box (I’m still amassing hop-ups for the XV-01).

Hop-up list...

Alum Racing Steering Set - TB03 #54095 or 3Racing 7075 Steering Racks For Tamiya TB-03
TB03 Aluminum Servo Stay - Left #54091
TB03 Aluminum Servo Stay - Right #54090
TB03 Aluminum Motor Adaptor #54054
HPI M2 x 25 Screws

These are possibles.

TB03 Aluminum Spur Gear Mnt #54094
Aluminum Diff Joints 54056
Heat Sink 54056
Gears and Pinions ???
Alum Shaft mounts ???
Gears and Pinions ???
Rear propeller shaft ???
The spool ???
The main shaft ???
TRF shock ???

Eek! 😬

I have a Thundershot with cracked front chassis mounts, bought a new chassis frommTonys Tamiya parts now I need to swap it all over... I bought this second hand too. Last time I started taking it apart to clean I snapped the rear chassis mount... is there a particular order to disassemble this thing?

Oh dear lol... I'm not after another in depth chassis to work on more a ready to use stockish car with minimal work needed... but it has to have lay down shocks as I don't have those in my stable yet ;)

I had my heart set on an FF03 for that reason and didn't even know the TB03 also had lay down shocks so when I saw it on Tamico it got me interested ( plus I already have a few FWD cars and want more 4WD's) ... did any those other forum posts you read mention it's an ok chassis just running for casual use... not hardcore race set up?

From memory.....lol that about 20+years. Removed the gearboxes to reduce weight then strip all other parts. OR download the manual and strip in reverse order to the build instructions. Need to get a chassis for my Thundershot and now the Terra Scorcher & then do same twice.

Great, let me post you mine and you can do 3 ;)

I remember I tried taking the rear gearbox off first but once all the screws were out it was still somehow wedged in at those two rear lower mounts and me bending it to release it snapped one of those square tabs off the chassis :(

Yep since then it's sat in a box till I feel brave again, think I need to follow your advice and reverse the manual build steps.

Atleast the Thundershot chassis was only £12.99 ;)

Ordered some bits. Finally decided to give the tamiya hi torque servo saver a go. The screwpins on the rear of the dt03 have started backing out so got some 48.5mm shafts and the tamiya 5.5mm shim set on their way to rid the rear of the car or screwpins. Might swap in some new wishbones as I have spares.

Went to LHS for the third time (once before xmas and last two days) to choose paint for my grand hauler. Finally walked out with a colour. Still in two minds....

Pilfered through the kit box last night, was hoping to get stuck into it today, but might be tomorrow since house will be wife and kids free.

Went along to my local clubs Christmas race day event. Just to watch. Stayed about an hour. Had a chat with the club secretary and he showed me his cars - 2wd and 4wd from PR Racing (never heard of them! But they seemed pretty fast).

Then I went back a couple of hours later and took my boys for a look.

The looks on their little faces when they saw how fast the cars were and saw them jumping. Priceless :)

One of the club regulars even came over and spoke to us and said everyone was welcome to join and take part.

Don't think I could handle the stress of my boys taking to the track alongside other folks expensive bits of kit just yet though!

Do they run a kids or allcomers class? Mine do, its the kids and then either newbies wanting a second race with the same car, or others will bring out something for fun. I have run in it but try not to as you get cleaned out a lot. Others have braved it with some vintage stuff which in theory could run in the main class but they would have to run mod since they have a vintage brushed motor too. If they have enough to run both they do a strictly kids then an allcomers as well.

Biggest problem is you will have to marshall the next race as kids don't make good marshalls

No they didn't have a specific class.

They do run a number of heats for each class with the low numbered heats being for novices etc, with skill levels rising with the heat numbers.

While I was watching, there was a little lad - not much bigger than my 2, who lined up in the first 4wd heat.

Before the race started they did point out to the other drivers which car was his and explained that he was a youngster, and asked that they be patient with him.

I thought that was nice.

I put in a pre-order for the new Lancia 037 re-release! My 2018 in RC is already looking quite promising.

I changed my profile picture accordingly ;)

Continued working on my Unimog interior. Gear shifters done, steering wheel mounted.  More sanding to do.  Also have the gas tank shaping up.  I'm really getting anxious to drive the darn thing though!

Made a dent in building the truck... (kids went to daycare but the boy came home at lunch and went to doctors) so got this done in 5-6 hours.

Maybe do more when the kidlets go to bed....

Looking good. The easiest way to cut the shell is to score it round with a Xacto or Stanley knife then fold/tear it for a perfect line.

Otherwise if using scissors, you can sand it after for a good edge and reduce risk of splits occuring where you have jagged cuts or sharp corners.

went on U Tube and after getting a new knife did mostly your first option with a bit of sanding to smooth. Well please and the second one was so much easier, I suspect same will go for Painting and stickers as well.

Mostly today I've been researching what buggy kit to get to go racing with.

Sadly it is unlikely to be a Tamiya as they don't have anything that is the equivalent of the modern offerings, from the likes of Team Associated and Schumacher.

Current contenders are: the Team Associated B6, the Schumacher Cougar KC and for a cheaper option (as I've not raced for 20 odd years) the Schumacher Cougar KF2 SE.
The KC would be nice, but it's the most expensive. The KF2 is older and cheaper. The B6 is in the middle price-wise but I would be concerned about parts availability in the UK if I needed something in a hurry.

The local club runs indoors on carpet and from what I've been told the popular cars are the B6, KC, the PR Racing S1v3FM and the Losi 22 4.0.

I'd never even heard of PR Racing until now and the Losi looks to be expensive.

On top of the kit I'll have to get a reasonable ESC for racing (Trackstar would probably do for a start), a servo and receiver. I'll also need some LiPo packs (shorty probably) as these modern cars don't have room for my NiMH batteries. I've got a Speed Passion 13.5T motor that would probably do for a start, to ease myself back into it.

This was posted some time ago, but I have to say: That's one of the best looking Bearhawk I've ever seen.  Apparently for Bearhawk, simpler design works far better than Tamiya's flamboyant design.  I like the front tires, what are they?

{Edit: never mind, from your showroom, I found out that they are Traxxas tires--Bandit, it seems]

End of year tidy-up in the garage.  The 10 built kits are all hanging up out of the way.

I haven't thought to hang them (by the noose)!  I have to devise a way to do this myself.  I like the orange MP.
