Seeing as my Daughter has been determined to watch every Disney movie we own today I figured I could get on with putting my Racing Fighter back together.

I've stripped and rebuilt the CVA dampers with some added green goo. They're now fitted with ball connectors top and bottom at the rear and on the top at the front. I've sleeved the bush on the lower front shock mounts to take up most of the movement. I've shimmed everything that had even the slightest bit of movement in it so that the whole thing is a lot stiffer. I've glued the tyres to the rims and slightly re-routed the wiring. I think it's now ready for some bashing. Once it's stopped raining of course!

After a couple of weels being horribly ill i finally felt well enough to do a bit of tinkering today. Had a few bits from Shapeways to have a go at. My toe in uprights for thr DT03 weren't right unfortunately. Bearing bores were super tight but most significantly i miscalculated the width of thr wishbone fitting so they wouldn't fit up. I measured again, tweaked the 3D model and ordered another couple of sets.

More successful was the second version of my 10 deg caster c hubs for the Thunder Dragon. These ones are dedicated to the DF03 uptights which give more steering angle than the stock ones. These have 850 bearing fittings too because the rough finish on the 3D print parts binds on the steering surface. I have just put in some spare bronze bushings and it steers really smoothly. All fitted up nice. If the weather ever stops being crap i might run the car and find out how it works in practice.

Went to a car boot sale, found a nice little shelving unit ideal for displaying my fleet, as the shelves are just big enough for my biggest model - the DT-03T with Mad Bull rubber.

It has space for my existing fleet plus two more models, so now I find myself browsing the 'Bay looking for a project...

Stained my truck bed, now I have to figure out how to make some strap hinges for the gate.FnW4Qz4.jpgfmh92oT.jpg

Sprainted an undercoat of silver to the body. Only the cabin will be used, the moulded truck bed will be cut away.

The bed looks great. Nice work. I bet the cat can't wait to try it out.

@Ronnyhotdog that bed is ace. Nice work.

Well I’m feeling under the weather today and unwilling to make any effort to move(!) so got cracking with the turnbuckles on the dt03.

Also ended up doing a little bit more de-slopping and moved the esc and RX around.

Need the motivation to go out and check and adjust steering etc now. It’s started snowing though so I’ll just stay nice and warm indoors instead!

Today I have painted and stickered the other of the boys DT03's. This time a Racing Fighter :) He asked for something like The Flash. Having never watched The Flash this was the best I could come up with!

Looking good. Need to hurry up and get them all finished so you can go race each other and get them filthy!

I was getting so ready to sell my Tamtech BMW GTP:

103tv8k.jpg

Upon further examination, it was decided that all it really needed was a good clean and for its Tamtech 201 radio to be found again after it got packed up somewhere. It was also determined that the shell would be too fragile to mail anywhere, with its 30+ year old decals.

So, I gave it a gentle clean, and it already looks much better:

Now to track down that radio... The custom batteries for this model are also getting charged, if they are still useful.

Meanwhile, the fire sale has yet to be smothered completely, for I might list my Wheelie Rally shell (chassis already sold) for sale:

If it happens, it will go for a few dollars and an essay ;)

Started rebuilding my 2nd MK1 SRB, after stripping cleaning/repairing everything. Still need a couple of minor parts but it's coming together nicely.

Also started painting up another Willy driver, the camera flash has made it all look glossy when it's actually flat.

ESC

Today (well, yesterday) I heat shrinked (heat shrunk?) some heat shrink (!) onto the wires of a TBLE02S ESC to get a bit more colour coordination of the internals of my current build. All achieved using my new heat gun...love it, very useful device.

Dropped my Daughter home earlier so I decided to finish off the Racing Fighter and then I had a quick photo shoot to showcase the three DT03's

A quick reminder of the Neo Fighter.

And my (used) Racing Fighter.

...logged in to Tamiyaclub for a  browse for the first time in ages!

Lots of projects to catch up on and posts to read back through. Left the hobby for a while but now making a bit of a comeback, sold some stuff, bought some stuff and just trying to get organised!

Hope everyone is well and look forward to updating my own project threads soon.

What are we using since the whole photobucket debacle? I'm sure there's a sticky thread somewhere I haven't found yet!

Since I love wasting my time in futile exercises...

I sorted 36 bearings to go into Konghead.  I intend to make the gearbox almost watertight.  I took shields off from 18.  Re-lubed with much thinner bushing oil.  Lunchbox uses 11 bearings.  36 is 327% the resistance.  Packed grease is absolutely necessary in dusty environments.  However, in a no-dust gearbox, light oil is better.  For load-bearing rubber-sealed ones, I replaced the grease with Teflon grease + bushing oil.

I then organized from group 1 to group 6, the least resistance to the most.  Rear 4 wheels will get 4 sets of low resistant bearings, because the motor turns the rear 4 together and front 2 together.  Even though they are all linked, I figured the rear could use less rolling resistance.

Konghead comes with no bearings. 18 metal shields are from Bigwig.  Tamiya bearings are not top of the line, so it was possible to sort.  2 of 18 rolled for about 2 seconds without grease, while the other 16 were tighter.  They wouldn't roll that freely no matter what I did.  At least, they don't have to swim through thick grease.

I know it's a bit over the top.

Some like the scale aspect of RC, some like seeing it jump. some like the bling-factor, some feel... the need for speed

For me, it's the bearings.  Since I have a bearing fetish :P, I wasn't surprised when fidget spinners were a thing.  Anyway, once you get the hang of it, it takes about 40 seconds to undo 1 bearing.  I had seen some tough grease.  But fortunately Tamiya grease washed out easily with soap and water. Then I dipped them in alcohol to remove grease and water completely.

Ended up spending 90 mins on almost completely new toe in upright design for the DT03 as i realised another mistake which was a bit difficult to undo. Off plane CAD design is a proper mind scrambler. Pretty sure its right now. Uploaded to shapeways and ordered so we'll know in a week or so.
