Continued work on my cc-01 front mounted servo modification.  Just need to finish making some steering linkage and I'll be able to test it out.

I think this definitely needs a build thread.  Not sure if there is one already but no doubt photobucket would have ruined it by now

Looking forward to seeing your colour scheme and how you treat the front end  - it looks like you have kept it quite long so you don’t see the motor.

And some big arches!!

Awesome looking car  @Peter_B, really crisp and tidy, nice work. :)

Seeing this comment about the translucent, and seeing @Kingfisher comments and awesome shells, I presume the point of the translucent is to deliberately mix / match with a backing colour like a silver or a gold? Is this better than, or different to, a metallic paint, such as a PS-16 Metallic Blue?

Metallic paints are a color with metal flake in it. The translucent paints allow you to give a candy effect. The metallic look of your backing color (silver) shows through the translucent, and gives the metallic finish more depth. If you have any scrap cutoffs from body shells, or coke bottles, you can experiment on them without wasting too much paint, if you just want to see how it'll look before you apply it.

Tried some new wheels and tires on my CR-01. Looks awsome, like an super jeep from Iceland,  but body will need some trimming and that i will not do. So i might need another body for when using em.

Sprayed my pug 406 st body in Tamiya blue ps4. Came up a treat. The decals on the other hand didn’t go quite as planned and ended up abandoning and taking off window stickers. Ah well time for a beer 🍺

These are great RTR out the box, even the 27Mhz radio works flawlessly!

The front mounted servo will remove a lot of the slop in the steering and allow the CC01 to actually have a turning circle smaller than the moons orbit around the earth.

Also notice the front hubs are swapped from side to side, putting the steering linkage at the front instead of behind the wheels.

Like Kingfisher said, mounting the servo up front makes the steering much more direct and slop free.  You need to cut the chassis up and modify it quite a bit, but I think the results will be well worth it. I considered getting the aftermarket steering linkage, but I consider that just like putting a band aid on a broken arm.

Probably because they are old tech. The M-03 has been superseded by the M-05 and M-07. They are still a lot of fun though - I bought one when they were on special for £50. I now race it regularly, where it performs very well.

More work done on my CC-01 front servo mount.  Links made up and fitted, but I overtightened the right side steering knuckle ball ends and cracked the mounting hole.  I ordered an aluminum set from Yeah Racing as replacements.
