Listen......it's not a big deal or anything.
But sometimes a man might spend his day fixing up a Kyosho buggy......
I mean it's 2018, this kind of thing is pretty normal these days.

Lunchtime breakout with my TRF211. A lot of fun now I have the setup a bit more sorted and plenty of rear traction. Right up until this happened

20181115_160345

Hidden football net foundation 1 - TRF211 3GL 0. Luckily only broke a shock top and lost the pivot balls on the wishbone shaft, all of which I have spares for.

Bought a whole bunch of hop ups for my rising storm (df02) still searching for the steering arm, seems like I will have to buy the expensive ones on eBay 😢. Will search a bit more before I do so, in hope of finding some reasonable priced ones.

Update, just bought the gpm ones, since they are allot cheaper

Was browsing some websites, and couldnt look away from the 39€ M05 offerd, and only 1x on stock Fiat Abarth 1000 TCR Berlina Corse (M-05) 58465

top.jpg

Paid more fore the body then for the M05 chassis, included also right away a set of 4 m chassis rims, as I plan to make it a shell roller and upgrade it over years.

And again, I caught lying to myself multiple times... guilt..

One of my friends is looking for a Tamiya 58444 Body, of a ABARTH 500 ASSETTO CORSE(M-05 CHASSIS)

it can be NIB, new body or already done body.

He is willing to pay for it, top dollar as said.

Fitted the XV01 suspension mount hop-ups this evening. Fiddly job as I can never figure out the simplest way to get the front gearbox off. Job done though, all hidden blinged up!

Wondering now if I have to ‘test’ the effacy, or try to avoid the incidents that caused me to upgrade :P

A mere flesh wound, and they say a party's not a party til' something gets broken ;)

Almost finished with the stickers! So.. I ran out of paint and looking at it now the rear wing is a little translucent, not sure whether to mask up and go again, perhaps with the aluminium layer colour in between, or just leave it bare metal. The aluminium I think looks good as a backing.

Also... I accidentally threw some of the stickers in the bin and had to go fishing when I realised.

Tip for anyone making one of these, I watched the build videos by Matteo and he suggested using a heat gun to get the ‘Avante’ sticker to wrap around the angular bodywork. If you cut out the detail around the A and get the decal in the right place there’s no need for this, they form easily, but thanks Matteo, if you’re out there, watching how to locate the stickers with masking tape first was a good tip and the video’s were useful to give me confidence with things I wasn’t sure of.

Last night I started the rebuild of the Super Hotshot that one of my boys is getting for Christmas. An hour spent on it got me the front and rear gearboxes built and rear suspension arms attached. I noticed the wheel axles were in a worse state (with rust) than I'd thought, so will have to pull those back out and replace them.

Today I've placed an order for my other boys Christmas present. A King Yellow with pre-painted body from Tamico for €149.99. Also ordered up a couple of Quicrun 1060 ESCs for both cars. Still need to order a set of bearings for the KY.

Cracked on with the 'Socker, may have stayed up way to late "just to finish this step..." really impressed with it. Have only changed the link mount leverage (to use the full stroke of the damper) and zip tied the cantilevers tight to remove the slack.

Just waiting on an electric screw driver for the wheels... No way I'm hand tightening 80 screws!!

Injected a bit of fun into a wet Friday afternoon in the office. A £10 toy converted to hobby grade (ish!) electronics with a rather stylish beetle shell.

After a brief meeting with Mr Dremel to 'baja' it up a bit

Love the look of the little guy. Pretty nippy even on a single lipo cell. Servo, Rx and the ESC donor servo were all in the bits box already. Should be good enough for some driving practice when the weather is too bad.

@ThunderDragonCy - yes, the old tube and the little starter thingy in the side are replaced but the light fitting attached to the ceiling is the original bit

Light now comes on instantly, and it's close to daylight so very 'cold' light in comparison

Finally finished my mini A Team van. I pity the fool who doesn't like it ....

Not just today but over the last week I've 'finished' the electrics in my High-Lift, mocked up the body and taken it for a couple of test runs.

Some immediate observations:

* 35T is way, way too fast, I expected the vehicle to be geared much lower than it is, it's silly fast for a truck and I can't imagine what it would be like with even a 27T silver can! So 55T motor now ordered, hopefully that's more suitable. I'm not looking forward to swapping this in because of lazy design - you can't remove the motor (easily) without disassembling most of the truck and that's just dumb. Could have been fixed if they'd used a simple two piece gearbox cover instead of the current single piece. I mitigated some of the inconvenience by drilling two holes into the top of the cover so you can access the motor screws.

* You do not need a 20kg servo for the gearbox ROFL... duh  And in fact I'd recommend a weak and slow standard Sanwa or Futaba servo because the gearshift mechanism is poorly designed and stresses the servo. I'm going to have to add a servo saver to mine just to protect the gearbox (not the servo). The Tamiya recommended radio doesn't have EPA which compounds the problem (so I'd recommend against the 4YWD - get something with EPA). This would have been a non-issue if Tamiya had designed an adjustable servo mount. And on top of this some poor design choices here make adjusting this servo far more difficult than it should be. Facepalm.

* From a distance the colour of my servos looks the same as the shock bodies so that's a nice bonus.

* I'm unlikely to ever run this through a puddle so installed everything electric out of sight and the result is quite a clean finish.

* I think the leaf springs are too taut using the standard settings so I think I'll remove the top supporting leaf (many people have removed both the upper and lower leaf and then found it's not strong enough).

* I can see this being a bunch of backyard fun - my TRF buggies are just far too fast for casual bashing fun.

I purchased this table top saw to make scratchbuilding stuff easier and more precise.  It uses a standard jigsaw blade for metal or wood or even tile.  It's got a ripping fence and angled miter guide.  Seems like it's going to be pretty handy.

still at it but working on the Madcap restore. every time I think that will do I keep finding another detail I am not happy with so more time and effort. Tires all off and washed with a toothbrush then some of the rims needed a bit of tidying up. then silicone spray the tires after refitting. Even cleaned and polished the wheel nuts.

Another clean at the body.

Strip an old used set of original blue pogo sticks, some marked up so went through the box of bits to take them all apart and clean and rebuild 4 that I am happy with.

Remove the black shocks I have on it and notice the shock tower is badly marked so go get finer sandpaper to take worst marks out of it.

Anyways back to it.

Been digging through boxes to try and clear out bits I will never use.

Found a good controller to put with the Wild Dagger I have for sale to make it RTR.

I think I have enough bits to also make the Blackfoot Extreme RTR as well.

Next up is bodies. Think the City Turbo one will have to go first and then the Lunchbox.

Son wants a Lunchbox because they look cool but he will soon get frustrated with the handling so I was going to put the shell on something more capable but it is not a great fit on anything else

I hate masking bodyshells!

I hate it as well but I also don’t want to buy finished ones. The pain makes the finished product so much better

Today I tested the chrome finish paint. It is surprisingly good, though the base part wasn’t finished well enough and has too many lumps and scratches, so spare head on order for take two.
