Bought some paints and brushes so I can try my hand at repainting the driver on my boys Christmas Super Hotshot.

The dishwasher stripped away every trace of the previous paint.

I don't usually bother with drivers but as this one is moulded in to the chassis it would probably look odd if I just left it.

Hi fellow N’pton member.. I’m intrigued, would that be acrylic paint that get’s removed by dishwasher detergent and hot water? Is that an ABS body?

It's not the body, the driver torso is moulded into the top half of the chassis of the Hotshot series.

I do believe the chassis is ABS though.

I also have no idea what the original paint was. The car came to me already built and with the driver painted.

Nice to have another local member on the forum :D

Just ordered a few bits from Shapeways. There's a Black Friday 15% code for your own stuff, so I've got a tidied up shock mount for the Thunder Dragon, plus some prototype battery retainers which should work with M05 retainer parts to make the battery more secure than the original Thundershot/Dragon design. Also got some little bits to make the camber link mounts on Ultra G nicer. Doesn't really need them, but at under $4 for 4 because they're so small I couldn't resist.

Do you do anything to finish the parts? I watched the YouTube of someone using acetone fumes to get an even finish... that was abs.

No, but I am not as precious as some about the finish. It's quite rough as it comes. I am sure a bit of sanding would help but up to now I have ordered the colour I wanted from shapeways and accepted it for convenience. Now they have started charging $2.50 instead of $1.00 for colours this lot is coming natural white and I'll sand and paint black.

Ordered some marui decals from MCI, with the black friday code.

Got a little frustrated from the small fiddly parts of the Samurai, so I stripped down the Bullhead chassis and started looking into the steering mods as a little sidestep. :P

And experimented a bit with a 3D printed part from PLA plastic. To see if I could sand its surfaces flat, and paint it with regular model paint. Seemed to go well. ^_^

Took family out for a blast with the RC fleet (first time with a Traxxas for me) have to say the Stampede is soooooo much better than the WT-01)

On strength of this I have just picked up a Rustler as well.

HOWEVER before you all start thinking traitor...the classics are still what I want to keep.(just reckon for real rough bashing Tamiya is not as robust as others these days)

Was on my Christmas list - 2 Nr Ikea Detolfs with additional shelves to show off my collection

Popped on Gumtree this am and 4 were up for sale very locally at sensible money. Went with intention of getting 2, came home with 4 as the seller was willing to take a poor price as this will mean I dont need to buy the extra shelves just the brackets.

so spent this evening building them for the hall.

Had to put a couple of shelves and my two completed buggies in just to see. Have to really.

I will have to remove the glass walls from the middle on both as its a bit tight as it is.

Well pleased. So lucky to have a good lady who is relaxed and very much of the attitude- "do what you want" and actually mean it.

Do you know what paint was used for the red one? It looks just like the one I used to get a ride in back in the mid-'90s (though it needs different wheels).

Makes me want one...

I'd hit a progress barrier with the Astute as I'm waiting for a couple of bits to wend their way here. @Peter_B reminded me I had a FAV (you know you have too many projects when someone reminds you what you have completely forgotten you had) so I got it out of its box and got assembling.

This is only a dry run as there's still a fair few bits to get and paint and there are several bits I need to touch up, but as this was bought as a box of bits this is the first time I've actually had it mostly together. It's also the first time I've had my front arms and shock mounts together with the shocks. I think the shock mount could do with being a little shorter but overall I think it looks ok. I'll try and not let it take another reminder from someone to get this finished!

Anyway, pics:

Whilst plucking up the courage to paint one boys Super Hotshot driver I made a start on building my other boys King Yellow.

Got the chassis/gearbox built with the suspension arms and driveshafts fitted so far.

At least with it being the prepainted version I don't have to throw any paint at it. Although I do still have to cut the body out and apply the decals. So it's not a complete win.

Today, after a miss deliver from DPD another suprise was in their warehouse, my Tamiya Lunchbox Black Edition from a Tamiya Club member, it was a great deal from the generous seller.

it arrived only missing two body mounts, but I found a replace for them, until some alu mounts arrive.

I found the rest of the build very relaxing and fast. Put the servo in, servo horn, new Tamiya 200cst oil for front shocks, ball connectors on top, thank God I found 3mm threaded rods in a local hobby store, bought immediately 5m of them. :)

for the front shock stay stiffener and I am in possession of a Carson silver alu oil shock 60mm lenght for the 5th shock mod. So already 2 mods started, not even recieved properly yet :)

I always wanted to have one of these and this was a perfect decision as this is ready to run.

I need only one famous example of the tamiya shock holder, so I could also use the suplied... I would guess, traxxas shocks.
