Today I swapped out the malfunctioning Speed Passion Reventon ESC in my mate's F104 Pro for a Hobbywing Quikrun 10BL120.

We are not quite sure what went wrong with the Speed Passion, as it seems to respond normally for the first second or so, then switch to some sort of limp home mode where it will only run at half speed, has no braking and no delay when switching to reverse, and ignores all efforts to reset it or flash the firmware via PC.

Anyway, the replacement speed controller is working nicely, so we will be able to give it a good run next race day.

Finally got started on prepping the body for paint, having never dealt with lexan masks before my god was that time consuming for the windows...lol For my first time i think them came out alright :) also fitted the 1.9 wheels from speedy need tires now lol

This afternoon I nipped out and ran a pack through my DN01. I've not run it for ages as I have rather neglected it trying to get my TRF211 3GL to handle nicely, so I sorted out the new Rx I got for it and setup it and headed out.

Sick at home with a bad cold, bored so looking through local rc car ads.

long story short, I did it again :o......

edit:

Bullhead’s anti rotation brackets came in, so something to doo this afternoon.

Edit 2:

Bullhead chassis drove it's first laps! :D Wish the oil-shocks were here...

Scollins and I have gotten to know each other pretty well since we worked on the "Team Build" CC01 VW Amarok together over the past two years.  If you haven't seen it on the main site page, he won first place in the recent "boxes" competition (winners posted here).  I thought his entry was pretty slick and asked if I could get his graphics file to play with; unfortunately he only had the lower-resolution entry and blew away the full Photoshop PSD file (let's just say it was a really late night for him when he pulled it together).

Anyhow, I wanted to recreate his file and pull together a few customized parts in honor of his win; over the last two days I finished the graphics for the box top and the decal sheet.  It almost looks like a "look what the postman brought me" posting, doesn't it?

Assuming I can print some reasonable decals and make some red and green parts, I should have a full set of parts to customize a standard kit soon.

Edit:  All credit to Scollins for the original idea and first box design.  He encouraged me to post this up.

Managed to lay down some paint on the MKGP2, signature body.

I'd bought metallic white, school boy error, didn't buy white to back it (another order to Modelsport....🙄

Started to reassemble my Bear Hawk after cleaning and did some rough stripping on the hard body. Doesn't look like much yet but I've got some neat plans for it!

Switched out the steering servo in the TRF211 after the other one fritzed. Changed brand and this one is much less noisy so hopefully less bother by the proximity of the ESC.

Also got the TRF211 3 gear dirt gearbox design I have been playing with to a good point. Not sure if I'll get one yet, but enjoyed playing around with it. There's a big detail thread on TC Designs forum if you are interested

Took a good hard look at my M-chassis fleet, realised that my M-06 is greatly under-utilised.

Originally built as a rally basher with a mild motor and minimal hop-ups, it has seen virtually no use in this capacity as its Renault Alpine shell is far too nice to risk damage.

This seems a waste, so I have ordered it a few upgrades such as an alloy motor mount and ballraced alloy steering, and will be ordering a race-legal motor and ESC next payday. Once these have been installed and I have found it an expendable bodyshell, it will come and join its M-05 and M-07 siblings at the track.

Layed some paint on the Yokomo truck body, tried to make a feature of  Lee Martin's signature,  but now it looks like K-9 is for sale at our local corner shop! 😳

Been trying alternate ways to mount the clod buster body, so it sits lower on the chassis.

I did not succeed, the grille always hits the bumper mounts. But just had an idea.... The only difference between front and back of the chassis is the position of said bumper mounts, so I'll try this again with the body on backwards. If that does work, reverse the motor leads and set steering servo to reserve. ^_^

How about multiple stars? Even a trail of smaller ones for a ‘comet’ effect?

A bit of light running in the garden with one of my favourites today, great start to the morning. There's a lot to be said for the simple pleasures in life. :)

Busy with the Bullhead's body.

Normally, the body posts are 22mm and 42mm long (rear/front), I've tested posts that are 5mm and 25mm long. Body height now looks good to me, not as 'high in the sky' as with standard posts.
The battery will be inside the chassis length-wise, so the holes for the battery box extensions will be closed as well.

Also test printed the tailgate, to marui big-bear example.

Next on the list, bigger fenders on the back wheel arches.

Last night I continued to get all my RC- related stuff together and populate my dedicated Really Useful toolbox.

I then went through my other boxes and collected more M04-related parts. This included locating...

A bumper from my 2002 M04 - too big to go under that shell.

The E parts to hold it and the chassis support from my ‘spare’ M04 front end.

Dampers

A ball diff (might not be a good idea but it will be a new experience to build one)

A couple of silver cans

19T pinion

steering servo

Which means I should have everything bar tyres and foams for my next build.

Now, to finish a TT02 chassis...

Finally getting close to finished my runner Wild One project. Ordered the ESC and pinion. All that's left is the motor, to which I'm going with the GT Tuned. Good speed and it won't grenade my gearbox.
