How about multiple stars? Even a trail of smaller ones for a ‘comet’ effect?

That would have been a brilliant idea!

Unfortunately,  I didn't think of that 😥

Anyway, done and dusted, metallic white, backed with white.

More bear hawking going on today. I got a motor hooked up and some wheels on it. I still need to muck about with the steering linkages but there is nothing some threaded rod and determination can't fix.

Stripping the shell has only been mildly soul destroying! Hope it's worth it. Gutted I missed out on a dead cheap BH on eBay yesterday. Worth it for the spare shell, could experiment with paint schemes then.

Over the past few days I printed the "Santa's Lunch Box" box art and attached it to a regular kit box.  Unfortunately the sticker paper/inkjet printer combination doesn't "pop" the colors very well, but the concept is there at least.  Also, maybe more importantly, I have a full extra set of customized parts now.  I just need to find a box and put a "bonus parts included" sticker on it. Also, I'm waiting on an impulse sealer and some shrink wrap bags to properly shrink wrap the kit and bonus parts box.

It was fun taking Scollin's idea, tweaking it a little, and making a customized kit out of it.

Finished the re-paint of my TRX-4 Defender.  Still waiting on a few decals to arrive and I'd like to change the wheels for a more traditional Land Rover style steel looking wheel, but overrall I like it better than the stock Traxxxas color.  I'm probably going to try to paint the panel lines as well.

Today, I got to visit my local hobby shop for the first time in a long time. I would have taken pictures, but the store staff were very suspicious of me, so unfortunately I have none...

However, I learned that they price their kits surprisingly competitively - I was totally caught off-guard when they told me they could order a Bruiser, and at a price well below what I was expecting!

... I might be back tomorrow

The kits that astonished me on price were the Frog ($190), Toyota TS050 ($200), Egress ($430), Novafox ($220), and all their High-Lift and 1/14 trucks ($400 each). My searches online suggest that these figures are quite competitive, especially in Canada where many overseas kits have shipping and customs piled on their prices. Sure, these numbers exclude tax, but I was astonished to find that this particular shop was able to charge lower than I was expecting, especially on the Egress and High-Lifts.

In the meantime, I rounded up enough supplies to have a shot at finishing my Ferrari 312T3 (more on that later!) and a few other builds. I also bought the new 2019 RC Line-Up book, but sadly for me did not see the 037 in it. I guess it had been a long time since I was able to buy one...

I also saw a used-but-clean Kyosho Raider for $90 CAD. The shop does sell some second-hand goods, and this (to me) was an interesting find.

The shop in question is Advance Hobbies, in Scarborough, Ontario - technically part of the Greater Toronto Area.

Happy days are ahead, if not here again - having gone through my new acquisitions, I do have everything I need to complete my Ferrari 312T3:

Within are the full complement of paints I need, and a few that I may require for my specific build. Not pictured are the many sheets of abrasives that I intend to use for the finishing.

I am also set if I want to complete my Lancia Rally, though I am considering using a Rally Cockpit Set instead of the stock driver figure...

Tried to cast my keel bulb today with mixed results. I didn't get the bulb as fhe mould i made was awful which i suspected but figured I would give it a go anyway. The good result was actually melting lead and pouring it, even if the mould didn't work. Not surprisingly I needed to use my charcoal bbq to get enough heat, the gas one just wouldn't cut it. So now I need to make a new mould but have a much better idea of how to do it.

I need to update the Sparrow build thread, quite a bit has happened since the last update. I was away for a month which obviouslt slowed things down but there has been steady progress while I've been home.

Had a friend over this afternoon and his 3yo kept asking to play with the 'racing cars', so of course I obliged. I think some cars will end up in that household soon. I didn't get to charge the actual race cars to convince my friend he needs one, which we know leads to 3...

my son and me had a little run on our garden trail with the CC-01 and the MF-01X, until the fingers were beginning to freeze solid on the transmitter:D

Resisted the sudden urge to buy a TT-01E based truck after seeing above post, put some CVAs and a Sport Tuned in my own TT-01E instead, had doubts about the CVAs, went online to do a little research and found myself looking at that truck again.

Uh oh.

Well, got the last piece of the puzzle for my Wild One Runner. Went with a Tamiya Super Stock RZ motor. This build has been slowly pieced together for the last year and a half. A Frankenstein runner of vintage/rere parts. I can keep my 100% vintage box art as a Shelf Queen and run the stuffing out of this one :) Just waiting for the ESC, motor and pinion which are all in the mail right now. Then to cut off the roof rack mounting points and zip-tie the basket to the frame rails.

She's getting close to being done (crummy iphone pic)

If you need more heat for any reason, you can do it economically with a bathroom blower fan, some flexible aluminum dryer duct, and some black gas pipe along with some hose clamps sourced from the local home improvement store.  My son and I built our own blacksmithing forge this way, adding fireplace bricks to contain the heat and using either charcoal or stoker's coal for fuel.  We can get mild steels up to a good bright yellow/white color and shape them on our railroad track anvils.  Our forge is in the style of a "European side blast forge."  You'll melt most things pretty quickly, and cook marshmallows in about 3 seconds!

Any more info on this ?

Looks nice.

Yes!

This is the WPL C24 1/16 Toyota Hilux 4WD in kit form. This one does not come with electronics, other than the steering servo and motor. They are made by WPL and are just a smidge below hobby grade, but there are A TON of metal upgrade parts that put them in the hobby grade segment easily. My kit was $30 USD shipped from an ebay seller. But they are sold all over the place and from reputable dealers like banggood and gearbest.

You can start here: https://www.banggood.com/search/wpl-c24.html?sbc=1

Mine is en route, but there's a ton of information and videos out there to look at.
