Feel your pain, bro - choose a sharper tool to stick yourself with next time. [:P]

Last mont I put a brand new blade into the OLFA knife, degreased it then sat down to trim some lexan masking... and promptly dropped the knife point-first into the thigh.

15mm long, 15mm deep - like a sharp knife into (um) fat. [|)]

My ole man did a classic a coupla weeks ago;

He was working on the roof of his house, with a big old metal drill and had to go back down to the yard for summat.

Whilst he was down there, he trod on the cord of the drill, and about 1.5 seconds +/- later, a dirty great metal drill stabbed him through the wrist with the 6mm drill bit it was holding [:0]

Something that might make you feel better... perhaps? ;-

About 13 years ago I accidentally cut my index finger right through to the bone with a medium sharp small Stanley craft knife, I nearly took the end of my finger off. There was blood everywhere for ages and ages. Not much pain though, which is odd. Perhaps that's because I remember much more the actual the shock of seeing my finger like that.

Taught me a couple of valuable lessons.. I now always make my brain go into the "There's a sharp weapon in my hand so watch out" mode even when I pick up a biro, never mind a craft knife. Always cut away from your hands, never towards them. ALSO watch out for recoil...i.e. Be aware of the force that you are putting on a tool in case it slips and the momentum will be dangerous and too much to stop in time before you stab yourself.

A quote that I saw once on a web site seemed to sum it up, "Always must be using brains"

The good bit is that after a year or so I don't seem to remember seeing any wound there anymore. With my glasses on when I look closely, I can't see anything there at all, infact I can't even see or remember which hand I cut now, so it did heal completely,

and thus I think that your hand will also heal completely, at least I very very much hope so matey.

You could have done worse with the screwdriver... My Gran's father stabbed himself in the eye with a screwdriver and had to have a glass eye for the rest of his life. Now that would suck [B)][8)]

Someone also once stabbed me by accident in my face VERY close (like about 2mm from) my right eye with a fountain pen when I was a student at Liverpool uni, again not much pain just shock but Jesus Wept it was a close thing, I was very lucky not to loose my sight in that eye.

I do hope that your hand is working OK after this my friend, please let us know if it gets better, you certainly have my sympathies and good wishes.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

One of the bad things about drilling your hand is that it doesn't cut the flesh. It rips it out. I almost wish I had a pic of this before it got stitched up because I went halfway through my hand, right between the bones & tendons. The..meat..was pulled to the outside. So the doc stuffed it back in, cut off the excess & stitched it back together.

OK guys this thread is running the risk of getting 'out of hand' (no pun intended) If you want to talk about you accidents while build models fine, but please don't use it as an excuse just to post gory photos of the web - thats not why people come to this forum, there are plenty of other places you can do that.

Cheers

I prefer to hit my index finger with a hammer when hammering blocks of wood between floor joists! [8D] Then two days later I have the fun of having to go to hospital to have a hole drilled through my fingernail because it had swollen so much and the pressure was too great [:o)] (That procedure has a special name which I've forgot)

Take care out there [:I]
