Hi, I'm thinking about buying my first 1/10 electric kit buggy and am unsure what to buy. Initially it would be for fun (to learn) and then maybe for club racing so I guess I would like it to be modifiable.

I'd prefer 2wd and I've been thinking about the hornet, the frog, desert gator, sand viper or mad bull.

Any advice much appreciated. Also, apart from the car what else will I need to buy? I'm guessing battery, controller & batteries and charger (preferably a fast charger?)

I'm based in the UK

It really depends on whether you want to race or not. If you plan on racing make sure there is an electric buggy club near you, if there is and you are planning on racing there is only one option, an Associated B4. By far the fastest and most popular racing buggy it means there will be plenty of help when you have a problem.

If you don't want to race then the choice depends on what you want from the car. The Desert Gator/Sand Viper handle well and are good performers, the Frog and Hornet are fun but have nowhere near the same performance.

Cheers guys, the Dark Impact looks good although I'd prefer 2wd. Associated B4 is more than I want to pay for a starter buggy (also it's not as if I'm going to be able to get the best out of it or be competing at that high a level initially), and I really want a Tamiya, simply because I really really wanted one as a kid but I (well, parents) could afford one.

Think I will keep my eyes open for the Dark Impact/Desert Gator/Sand viper. I assume these are all 'tuneable' to an extent? Also, any tips for radios, batteries, chargers etc?

Thanks

aren't the df02's 2wd?

DF-02's are 4wd. DT-02's are 2wd.

I just build a Desert Gator and I really like it. It is easy to build and there are some tuning parts available for the DT-02 chassis.

The Dark Impact is a 4wd btw. Best two wheel drive off-road from Tamiya at this moment is the DT-02 chassis. This means Sand Viper and Desert Gator.

Also the soon to be released DT-02 MS should be very interesting for you. Has a lot if Tuning parts allready in the box.
