Finally Got A 959!

Recommended Posts

I finally got my hands on a 959. massive thanks to Daren who sold it to me. It looks as though it only been used a few times, there are no scratches underneath, wheels & tyres don't have a mark on them, th ebody is in great condition, although I will be replacing the red & gold stripe stickers as they seemed to have perished over time. it came complete with the box, controller, manual, new wheels & slicks & parts manual.

All I have done to it is repaint the drivers, install bearings in the outer axles & put a standard Tamiya ESC in place of the mechanical setup. I also put oil in the shocks as there was none.

I had my first drive of it today, it hammers! It will be it's last though I think, it's too good to drive all the time, I even put 2 layers of black contact underneath so as not to scratch it up. Worked a treat! it's now been cleaned & detailed & put on the shelf. It has a good home!

Enjoy the pics.

Jak

PS the standard Tamiya ESC worked a treat with the Technigold motor.

There are a variety of opinions on here on what is the ultimate Tamiya - which is great. It does seem that the 959 ends up in most people's top 10 for sure. Good purchase!

Awesome pics!!! Makes me want to take mine out when it's done.

I have 3 at the mo in various states from New Build through to one rebuilt using 80% new parts and one that is nice and clean but usable. They are good fun to rebuild too and most of the spares still available though at a price. Just watch that body, have you seen what they are going for nowadays!

My Dad bought one of these when they first came out after seeing a demo vid in Harrods. I had a Falcon at the time.

Do you guys have problems with this car shearing bevel gears in the diff and popping out driveshafts.

yeh, I'm really surprised at hown thin the body feels in places. I can see how easily it could be ruined. i was also surprised that it had plastic bearings in the axles. With all the other trick gear that it came with from Tamiya, it makes me wonder why Mr. tamiya just wouldn't have included bearings in the axles?

he's funny sometimes.

I wouldn't mind getting a Kamtec replica body to run it though.

There's a guy selling replica shells in Austria too - much cheaper than Kamtec, although without seeing a Kamtec shell, I couldn't compare the quality. Seems reasonable though...
