Depends whether you prefer belt or shaft drive really. Both cars are competitive and would suggest you check out spares availability locally so if you break anything you can get it repaired for the next weeks club meeting. If one is more popular at your local club it also means you have more people to help if you have a problem.

My own preference would be the Cyclone as I prefer belt cars. If you are planning on running elsewhere than on a racetrack the TC4 will be more reliable with its enclosed drivetrain. The Cyclone is also the newer design so has a little more advanced steering and suspension over the TC4, but you have to be a pretty good driver to notice the difference.

I agree with 'terry.sc'..

Have you raced before? What kits are being driven at your club racing spot? Indoor or outdoor track? Carpet or Tarmac?

Just wondering, Rob

I'd go TA-05R or TA-05MS possibly TRF415MSX, TB EVO V if you prefer shaft driven. There are a lot of variables to the question, a few people have addressed those above. Cost is also one of those variables. You can get the TA-05's from $300-$600, the TRF's are around $500-$800, and the TB's are around the same as the TRF's. All prices are for chassis only.

What type of racing, how technical are the courses, whats the surface, what compound/liquid do they treat the track with if any, how much experience do you have in racing? .. More info will get you more help, feedback and advice.

The TRF416 will be out soon, so you may want to wait to see that too, I know I am :)

I know none of those are either of the cars in the main question, but I would take a TA-05/TRF chassis over either of the named any day. Then again all I race is Tamiya so maybe im a tiny bit biased

IF you are a total newcomer, i would suggest you to try the TC3 instead.. It is much easier to setup, and more forgiving to drive, if you are new.

For the 2 others you mention, i would say go for the Cyclone. Lots of drivers had problems finding a good setup for the TC4 when it came out, but the Cyclone runs pretty good out of the box...

i have not yet tried a TA-05 MS, but i would NOT suggest that you go out and buy the 415 MSX. In general, the TRF belt chassishas gone "downhill" since the 415 MS, being more and more dificult to setup properly, and also, they are VERY exposed to "chassis-warping" in case of a crash, (even a small one), and therefore, they must be tweaked and adjusted after nearly each run. :P

Personally for the moment, i am running the X-Ray T2007 and i am very happy with it. Its stable, robust and can take a lot of (ab)use before parts start breaking and re-tweaking is nessecary..

My next Tourer will be a Kyosho, as soon as the latest TF-5 Stallion will be available here.. (Perhaps it will be named TF-6?)

Anyway, good luck on your choice, and remember, racing IS also supposed to be fun..

Cheers..

I give the TC4 the thumbs up.

I myself, have just traded up to the TC4 (from a TC3) and agree with Gozone, in that the TC3 is easier to setup. Part of my problem was that I bought a second hand TC4, and I made the mistake of NOT rebuilding it as per the manual for my base line (The point from where all the changes will be made from), so most of my problems resulted from the previous owners poor setup skills. I however have found that the TC4 does seem to be a little more difficult to break or damage than the TC3.

If you are interested in the TC4, Team Associated has an ebay store where they are selling a "Carbon component set", which includes 4 arms, a chassis & braces, battery brace, front steering knuckles and rear hubs for $20.00 USD. (The only Carbon composite part that the set doesnt have in it are the "C" Hubs).......

I also looked at buying a Cyclone "S", but the PLASTIC everything just made the car look cheap. Maybe consider a second hand Cyclone, rather than a new Cyclone "S" if you prefer belt drive.

I race in a spec class where everyone runs the same motor, body, tyres, battery and gear ratio, and my TC4 has no trouble keeping with the Cyclones in the class.

Cheers
