Hi

I've never done this before, so sorry for the simple questions.

Basicilly I want to be able to run my FF01 Chassis. From looking through the manual and other members build's I can see I need an ESC + powerpack and Carger + radio transmitter.

I'm running Stock RS-540SH 7.2v motor, and was wondering if this ESC from Ebay would do the Job?

For the powerpack im looking at this one Charger and Powerpack from Ebay would work?

For radio transmitter, is there a particular one I should get?

Is there anything else I need?

Thanks for your time in repsonce to my questions.

Mark

Hi,

The ESC will do the job. Personally I wouldn't buy it. It will work fine but you are limited to on your motor choice for the future.

This may help:

When I bought my Swift I saved 15 buy not having that kit ESC thrown in and spent 30 on the Tempo 11 ESC seen on that page. So it essentially only cost me 15 to upgrade. So for your, another 10 quid would get you an ESC that will run any motor your likely going to want for your FF01.

The eBay battery and charger would work fine too. Not enough experience to say whether its the best one or not.

I have alwayed used Acoms transmitters, but I couldn't say whether this is best or not.

Cheers,

If you are just getting the car going so you can run it on the street or local parking lot, then those items will be fine. Most of the cheaper 2-channel radio sets from Futaba and Acoms will be fine too (Note that you will need a transmitter, receiver and only one servo if you are using an ESC).

You will need one or two battery packs as well (recommend 2 as you can run one while the other is charging).

If you are going to get into racing, you might be best to go along to a local club and have a look at the gear that people are using there. I'm sure there will be more than enough people willing to chat about their cars.

And don't forget about your local hobby shop! These guys should have good advice, and they need your custom.

The ESC will work fine, but it is likely you will want to put a faster motor in it in the future, in which case you would have to buy a new ESC to handle it. Definitely worth investing in a bit better ESC from the start.

That battery and charger will work fine, but a little more expensive battery will give you better performance and that charger will take 3 hours to charge the battery. It is also a mains only charger so you can't charge using your 1:1 cars battery when you are out with your r/c car. Not a problem if you are just running at home, but for example at a TC bash you will usually be miles from a power point. A better charger will give you the option of charging from the mains and 12v, and will charge the battery in an hour.

You will need a radio set, not just a transmitter which is the bit you hold. Any brand will do, although I personally prefer Futaba. Go for a 40mhz radio if you can, a wider range of frequencies, so less chance someone else will be running on the same frequency as you, and less interference.

Have/had two local r/c hobby shops near me. First one was in process of closing down ;) (chap retiring) and the second one is more dedicated to r/c plans and boats. :P The link that Bulter left (http://www.tamiyaparts.co.uk/) is TimeTunnelModel which is just 30mins down the road from me... so went down there, and come back with..

Acoms Techniplus 2 Channel with Receiver (and two servo's)

Mtroniks Viper RV11 ESC (electronic speed controller) (full forward / break and reverse funtions)

Ansmann Racing Powerjack 6 Delta Pro (for RC battery packs 6 cell 7.2v NiCd/MiMH - with Tamiya plug)

Mtroniks 6 Cell 2300Mah 7.2v battery

NB: Battery Show in pic is different from listed above. Also needed is 8 x AA batteries for the Acoms. The batteries from above from from an model engineering show I was at.. sold by Model Power

You may notice the missing posts, currently getting some alloy ones made up.

Hope this helps, anyone trying to make their car a runner..
