On christmas 85 I think, I received my very first tamiya, a 1/32th boomerang

a few years later, I think 88, I received the super G grasshopper 2.

on the first drive, my father tried it, drove it UNDER a fence door, and broke the body

Looks like I'm in for a good Christmas, just bought a NIB Toyota Toms 84C Woohoo B) I first had one of these when I was 17 (more than double that age now lol). Was a lucky find when I dropped a seller on I had bought from before an email asking if by chance he had one for sale. Geez I was happy when he emailed back and said yes. Just hope the postal service doesnt crush the heck out of it like they tried to do with the last package I got sent. :P

Have a Merry Christmas :D

Back in autum 1983 i wanted to get a 'Sand Scorcher' for christmas, but this

was too expensive for my parents. So i did not add it on my wish list for that

reason. I bought a 'Sand Scorcher' from my saved money and with some help from

my parents in May 1984 then. Christmas 1984 i got a RC-Boat and in christmas

1985 i could choose between a 'Frog' and a 'Porsche 956 RM Mk5'.

I favored the Porsche, since i had already my offroad Scorcher.

Since 2000 every christmas i got some Tamiya RC stuff. Last year i got my Tamtech Frog.

This time i'll get a new Hilux with Ball Bearings and 4K Stick Radio.

Sometimes i feel like a little child :D and can'T await christmas B)

all the best

My RC memories begin around 1982/3, there was a boy near to where i lived who used to drive a Holiday Buggy around and i thought it was just amazing being able to drive outdoors with it.

Around that time you used to be able to buy some Tamiya cars in the big catalouges my mum used to have, can always remember seeing the Holiday Buggy and Ford Ranger (being launched a from dirt ramp as in one of the Tamiya catalouges) I used to to sit and just look at those pictures for ages!!

Anyway with christmas 1983 looming on the horizon, my parents had asked what i would i like, I really wanted a Sand Scorcher, but asked for a Holiday Buggy as i knew a Sand Scorcher would be far to expensive, about 200 up and running in 83.

Imagine my total suprise when on christmas day the big box under the tree turned out not to be a Holiday Buggy but the Sand Scorcher i had so longed for. The next three days where spent building it, I can remember building up the front suspension myself (i was only 13) and my dad built the rest of it. The smell of fresh rubber tyres, Liquid Thread lock and silicone sealant still take me back there.

This year i have a Mini Cooper Racing under the tree so i can race my daughter around who already has one herself

I still have my original Sand Scorcher albeit a very rough looking Sand Scorcher now. One day i may get around to restoring it.

Never gotten any Tamiya cars for Christmas but then again I knew I would never get such an expensive gift. At least not a toy (I know Tamiya claim they’re not toys). So my first r/c car was bought with money I’ve saved and later on I got a job delivering the local newspaper. So that way I could afford most of the r/c stuff I wanted.

However this season, now being 27years old, I was given the job of buying my own Christmas gift (from my grandmother). I figured I was going to order a Brat from stellamodels. 105USD plus shipping fits the budget just right. I’d been thinking about this for close to a week but didn’t get around to ordering it. But I didn’t worry. I was going to use EMS shipping so it shouldn’t take longer than a week for the kit to arrive. At least that is what I thought. I was going to order the kit this evening but I was met with this message on their webpage.

** 16-DECEMBER-2007 SHIPPING NEWS UPDATE ***

EMS SHIPPING MAY NO LONGER DELIVER BEFORE XMAS

I haven’t put in the order yet but I figure I’ll do it later tonight. Hopefully it arrives before the 24.des (in Norway the tradition is to open the presents in the evening at the 24.des). If it dosen't arrive in time I can always print out the tracking number and that under the christmas tree.

Well yeah, Christmas would not be the same without a big box under the tree, then spending hours round all your relations just waiting to get home and start building, this always happened to me but it was always worth the wait. Now I am older there is not such a rush, and sad but not so many relations, but I always have a new kit to build every Christmas, nothing like sitting down with a cup of tea or something stronger with an old film on the Tv and start the build maybe into the early hours, last year was the 350, this year I have treated myself to a new all metal 1/8 scale bike from a guy called Irving in Tawain have a look at his site OTO Bike studio should be here tomorrow morning. So keep building and a Merry Christmas

My first R/C Christmas came as a replacement for a German Sheppard that I wanted as a gift in 1988, my uncle asked me whether I wanted the dog or a Sears R/C Lamborghini, off course I chose the Lambo, and my mind was set on getting that car for Xmas, soon after that, he came home and threw a couple of R/C car action magazines on the dinning room table and told me to choose the R/C car that i wanted.

Now that I think about it, it was awesome to go through the mag and trying to choose the biggest, baddest truck there was, my first choice was the Kyosho Big Brute, which was advertised in a photo, with a girl holding the truck by a leash, it was AWESOME!!!, my uncle called, but they didnt have it in stock. So I went with the Tamiya Blackfoot.

I sat outside waiting on the Brown Truck that said "UPS" on the side, I even had it written on the dirt at my grandpa's unfinished house. When It arrived, I ran through out the whole house screaming "it's here" went to get the package with my uncle and carried it myself all the way back to the house.

The only bummer, is that I had to wait 3 days for my father to build it, and he didn't even paint it, just stickered it and out I went.

Ever since then, I've gotten R/C related stuff almost every Xmas, as NIB kits, I got the MRC MT-10M and the Tamiya Super Hornet.

Hi, I'm getting a re-re Frog from Stella for New Year (I'm more of a Pagan and never a Christian, I don't "do" Christmas, I am a New Year kinda guy :) ), it was ordered a few days ago. I thought I might run it at Kidderminster 2008. Will make a change from the Top Force (which is just too good LOL), I will enjoy the challenge of learning 2WD cars. Probably (as mentioned to me at Kidd. 2007 by a Frog driver) my Frog will be Understeer City, but it does have a certain charm. I hate all those stickers that they keep adding to the box mentioning the ESC, I wish that they would seal it in cellophane and put the stickers on the cellophane.

And I hate the way they changed the decals. Come on Tamiya, it's only a few extra Yen for the licensing and it means a LOT to us vintage fanatics (the ones that actually buy your re-releases in bulk).

I would happily pay extra for the original decals (or RE-RELEASE THE ORIGINAL DECALS SEPARATELY B) ). Now there's a thought :) Tamiya could make VERY GOOD PROFITS by re-releasing the FOX, FROG, HILUX, etc ORIGINAL decals as we on here would buy LOTS of them and be quite preparred to pay extra for the licensing etc.

Also I'm getting quite a lot of original SRB NIP parts and wheels and tyres, plus re-released SRB wheels & tyres (SS) for maybe running a RR or SS at Kidd. 2008. Where it will get a beating. LOL.

If anyone is getting NIB RA1028 Hilux or a NIB Rough Rider or Sand Scorcher, I will be extremely jealous

Oh and BTW I personally think that the price of the re-re Frog in my Local Hobby Store (Model Zone, at Liverpool) is absolutely preposterous, at 129.95 GBP, and I wouldn't mind but in the UK we are "last in the chain" to get them and the boxes are usually not as they should be (bashed, creased) at least that has been my personal experience.

So on a final thought, PLEASE Tamiya can you also re-release THE ORIGINAL KIT BOXES. YES, JUST THE EMPTY BOXES WOULD DO, EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL RELEASES, I often wonder why Tamiya don't do this, so if we receive a bashed box then we would cheaply (yes Tamiya, please make them very reasonably priced) be able to replace it with a perfect box. Corner crushes really annoy me.

Or at least make your packaging protection better Tamiya. I hope you are listening.

Usual disclaimer B)

Cheers,

Alistair G.

WOW you guys get all these neat stuff! Every year since adulthood I get neckties, briefcase, shoes and dress shirts... you know, the boring adult stuff. Since my B day is in late December I get the big "rip off". Two specail days for the gift of one!

Anyways, I did have some toys for Christmas when I was a child, but never a RC car...

However, I can tell you my worst Xmas gift ever though, it was a portable water filter...

ROFL!!!

I remember when I was about 9 or 10 I got a Kyosho Big Brute kit for Christmas. I was delighted when I opened it up. Needless to say, I wasn't really capable of building it so my Dad set about building it. About a week later it finally worked in a fashion, although it wouldn't reverse properly and I soon lost interest unfortunately.

This Christmas I quite fancy getting myself a Monster Truck/Buggy (too soon to use the excuse its for my son as he's only 2 at the moment) and I'm trying to decide what. Think I'll go for a Lunchbox for some Monster Truck fun!

back in the 1980s hamliys had a store in bath city and i used to spend a lot of time in there and well they had a little black square where they had a few cars not tamiyas but nikkos and the like.one car i always liked was the 911 turbo/targa and they had just that car in there it was black and gold with gold rims and it looked the dogs nuts lol i HAD to have it so i had to come up with a way to get my grand parents who i lived with in to the shop to to get me it i sat down with them both and asked if they would let me show them what i wanted and to my surprise my grandad look up and said we got you a car already! i was a bit shocked that they would tell me a few weeks before the big day i had to no what it was. now they didnt have a lot of money so i knew it wouldent be a tamiya so i had to find out where it was after a few days of sneaking about the house i found this big ish box mmmm i wonder whats in here?i peeled back a little bit of the wrapping and saw a black car and the hoffs face!!!it was KITT !!!.just as i was putting it back where i found it a voice was in my ear my nan was watching me the whole time.she started to laff and said oh well we better get u somthing else now.the next friday she took me to town and got me the 911.best xmas ever!!!the KITT got well killed by my best mate trying to see it it would jump a set of steps but the 911 lasted up till 2003 when the electrics gave up and got chucked out.

Bump :D .

I want a NIB Sand Scorcher, NIB Rough Rider, and NIB ORIGINAL Hilux for Xmas so much it hurts

I wonder if there is any chance at all that Tamiya could re-release the SS and RR for the 30th Anniversary in 2009 ? My God I would go nuts if they did and buy like 5 of them each NIB :) , but if they change anything from the original then I would be in tears :( .

I suppose they destroyed the mould for the SS body when they modified it into the MB and Blizter B. Or did they create a copy-mould from the original with which to create the MB and BB ?

I wish I knew the answer to those 2 above things.

Cheers,

My First R/C Christmas included a huge box which inside had a Frog, Tamiya hump back battery and a charger. My dad and I spent all afternoon building it on the kitchen table. I will never forget that.

I have had a number of other R/C Christmas's that included a HotShot, Team Losi JrX2, Futabe Junior radios adn after market mortors and parts. Now about 20 years later I am repeating my past :-) Last year I got a Frog and Yesterday I got another HotShot. Nothin beats the smell of a new Tamiya kit on christmas ...

This was a very good year. Not only did I get the Fox to restore and a NIB TT01 WRC Focus, but the wife and fam chipped in and got me the TT01 BMW M3 Schnitzer as well!

Also, just before Christmas, a brand new wing for the Fox arrived from Great Britain.

So yesterday I simply HAD to get out to the LHS. Picked up a radio, servos, battery, paint, and an RC Car Action Magazine.

I am almost overwhelmed with RC stuff!!

Almost :-)
