I think I read somewhere on TC that there is such a thing as teflon tape, which is good to put under chassis partic when used on carpet.

Is this right? What is it really called and can anyone suggest where I can get it?

Either online or in the UK please

Thanks :D

Search for chassis protection film.

Team Losi chassis protection film, part number A9605

Good for protecting an off road chassis from damage as it prevents anything scratching the carbon chassis, but not much use indoors. Available from Team Associated as well.

If the problem is the chassis touching the carpet you are running the chassis too low and/or too soft suspension. If you want proper teflon tape it won't make the chassis slide over the carpet with any less friction than the fibreglass does already.

For protecting your chassis, we used to buy big sheets of 3M vinyl sold in motorcycle shops

to protect against paint wear. Skateboard shops sell same to protect their graphics.

Or auto body shops will have it too - used on 911 Porsche rear fenders etc.

"Teflon tape" normally refers to the white plumber's stuff, to seal pipe threads.

I use it to pack out balljoints & reduce slop.

had one time received some Sanwa servos where the lead had been spliced,

and the bare wires were insulated with teflon tape... ;) ...wrapped like a mummy.

another cheap but effective way to protect the bottom of chassis is use adhesive back plastic or vinyl from household or kitchen section of your hardware store...the stuff your Mom use to line the kitchen drawers. Just buy the opegue stuff. The same stuff or film use to coat the window for privacy where the lights get in but people can't see in. I guess one can also use duct tape...

Thanks TeamTC!

I was hoping for less friction on carpet impacts after the jumps, and a little protection. So you don't think it would be a little less friction than a CF chassis and screw heads?

I know its fractional but its a PROJECT and thus fun just to think of all the possibilities :D

if you want even less friction don't show the floor a flat surface, make it RIBBED.

Runner rails of teflon or nylon sheet?

ooooooo oooooooooo! That is a race god like suggestion!! :):lol:

BRILLIANT. Now, how-where can one get thin rails of teflon? Anyone?

;):P:P

Yet ANother pointless r/c project idea to suck my my mindbandwidth for hours n hours, lol

cutting strips is just long strips of teflon; eg on plotter cutter, paper guillotine etc

(No i don't know what glue/tape they use to stick it on with... now ya got me thinking)

They do make teflon tape for the aerospace industry. this is actually a roll of adhesive backed tape in variour widths. We have some of it at my work but it's ubber costly.

Don't you just love bench-racing in your head? It's great. Every idea works perfectly, and every little tweak makes the car 10mph faster and far better looking.

I seem to remember polishing the bottom of the chassis with ski wax for running on carpet. I don't know if it helped, but it made me FEEL faster. :)

Any decent plastics supplier should be able to sort out some PTFE. It does machine very nicely. The cheap way of attaching it is to screw it on, but you can buy PTFE one side etched so you can glue it using a wide range of adhesives.

See my link at the top for rolls of it if anyone's feeling rich. :)

Snap! $120. That's cheap compared to what my company pays for it. We get the Lockheed upcount instead of a discount

lol  upcount, I like that!

Thanks guys! So the tape is shockingly expensive and Terry says it makes no diff, so, PTFE rails sound the 'go'. I am thinking now that perhaps just some ribs under the front part of the chassis and the rear, both these are the contact areas.

By PTFE now, we mean the white plumbers tape actually comes in blocks of material, like nylon? And I would want a couple of short narrow ribs, etched on one side (chemically treated/dried meaning yes?) to glue on with some kind of epoxy?

I am imagining rails of about 3/4mm wide, 2mm high... just 2 or three little bumps to smooooth the slide on impact.

I know we are bench race imagining, but if I can get the stuff I will certainly try it just for fun and to see and report back!

:):D:o
