speedy_w_beans 4272 Posted September 30, 2015 Back in 2012 MSM546 started a thread asking what truck each one of us would like to see next, and I suggested an International Lonestar (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65976&p=476664). So, I was really happy when Tamiya announced the Grand Hauler this past January (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=75507&p=573759). I stalled and waited and tried to resist, but after working several years in the trucking industry myself I finally gave in. This looks like it will be a good late-winter build followed by a spring paint job.
Nitomor 2122 Posted September 30, 2015 Nice, anyone remember Rhino from MASK. My favourite TV cartoon as a kid.
Novastar 241 Posted September 30, 2015 Yeah I remember I used to have several Mask action figures remember a quad bike (?) but was not lucky enough to own Rhino ! I was more into Star Wars & GI Joe though.
Nitomor 2122 Posted September 30, 2015 Lol, "Iguana" driven by Lester Sledge and his mask Mudslinger! The first wave of series was the best by far though. We didn't get GI JOE much in the UK, however they recently released a figure called "specialist Trakker" with a mask that looked a lot like Spectrum and a character the spitting image of Matt Trakker. http://toys.hisstank.com/gi-joe-25th-anniversary/25th-gi-joe-figures/matt-trakker-2023 I bought one for my boy, I'm hoping they re introduce Mask. There was also a reference in the recent Transformers cartoons to their Mask vehicle unit.
ChrisRx718 4470 Posted September 30, 2015 My carbon fibre tube arrived to make some custom gear shafts up... However... The OD is 4.9mm, not 5mm as advertised and therefore the bearings aren't a good fit, allowing the tube to spin freely within a bearing. I'm thinking this is going to be too much movement? Not sure if it's worth complaining about, but on the other hand it did just cost me £8.00 and I'm not sure I have any use for it otherwise.

You could wrap it one or two times only with thin vinyl or electrical tape to lose the unwanted clearance !

I used some on my cousin's Hornet which had been running bushings for years, with the resultant wear to the metal parts causing the bearings to be rather loose when he eventually decided to upgrade. The compound filled the gap nicely.

ChrisRx718 4470 Posted October 1, 2015 I thought about the tape actually - would it work? I guess for 0.1mm not a significant amount of tape would be required. My worry would be that it might unravel over time out of sight and cause havok inside a gearbox! I'll give it a try and report back.

ChrisRx718 4470 Posted October 9, 2015 After looking...and looking... I finally found a Tamiya 50849 - A parts for M-04 chassis. These are so rare, it seems (cue loads appearing on eBay) And look where these cropped up - Tamico.de They also had the foam bumper. Yeah Racing freewheel axles were cheaper than the Tamiya items so I got those too. It will be nice to put my Eunos Roadster on the chassis it was intended for. So then I'll have a spare M-06, which it would make sense to sell. But that's not really my style.... Thinking of getting a gyro and having a go at drifting it.
