The "Postman Brought Me" Thread

Just showed up today.  This will be my first XV-01 (didn't have to order bearings or aftermarket shocks! ......yeah.... :D)

The box wasn't in the sealed shrink wrap though, so a little concerned on that.  I already sent an email to the online retailer to let them know but hopefully will find time to inventory everything before I begin the build.

Where did you order it from?

The shrink wrap thing seems to mainly be a Tamiya USA thing.  If you order from outside the USA/Canada, it is quite common for the box to be open as they leave the factory this way (my understanding is that the option of seal them is done at the distributor level).  This has thrown me a few curve balls over the years as well!

I've only bought 3 kits new (in UK) and none have been shrinkwrapped.

Thanks Gentlemen!   I'm in the US but this kit was shipped from Japan.   Makes me feel a little better that the shrink wrap in not always the case.   My Alpha Romeo GTA was shipped from the UK and that one did have the shrink wrap though.????

I actually just did an inventory (before I read the above comments... :() and from what I could tell, everything looks to be there.  Thanks again for the feedback!

I think shrink wrapped ones are coming with hobby wing esc where they don’t add those esc’s from the factory.. more like addition in the later process(because bobbywing esc sticker is on top of shrink wrap). That is my assumption . Never had shrinkwrapped kit with tamiya esc so far.

I've never had any kit come shrink wrapped buddy, and the ones I've picked up have come from a few countries. So I definitely wouldnt worry mate.

And come on, admit it... you loved doing that inventory check!😉😂

I've recently sold about 6 cars that either weren't getting used or, that I hadn't got round to building. Over the last two years or so I'd amassed several kits that were in a 'build queue' along with some hop ups, but have decided to clear them out to make room for a few builds that are going to get used. Starting with this beauty....

I've bought a few DT-03s last year from Amazon which came from Germany.  They were shrinkwrapped and had TBLE-04Ss in them.

As mentioned earlier, I believe the local distributor adds ESCs (if the market supplies kits with them) and shrinkwraps them (or not) as per their process.  UK distributor supplied kits tend to have ESCs but no shrinkwrap in general and in my experience of buying quite a few kits last year.

I want this so bad as I feel I have a weird connection with the TT02, but at least in the UK it seems obscenely overpriced. I think I could make spec a TT02S up better with hop ups for a lot cheaper

The SR is still available at Tamico for about 150 Euros plus shipping at 16 Euros. So £148. Plus maybe tax and charges so, what £180?

I still think you could make a TT02D better for the money. The SRX, R, S etc dont really have the mods id want

Today i got some basic stuff to use with my old Datsun 280ZX and upcoming Wild Willy 2 :)

I'm planning to rebuild one of the battery to a "hump pack" as i remember i had for my Datsun, to be able to fit.

On the plus side; 4x receivers for £25 delivered will see me through my next few builds.

On the negative side; my RCMart parcel. Or rather, the Royal Mail dreaded grey slip.

£42 customs charge to pay on a 200USD order.

Probably the last time I ever order from RCMart, simply not worth it unfortunately. Prices have gone up and if you get stung like this then it doesn't even work out cost-effective. I'd love to buy domestically but the products simply aren't all available here :(

Agreed about the price. However, I'd got a fair old chunk of points saved up with Fusion Hobbies from other kits I'd bought. So this wasn't too bad.

Otherwise I'd have just ordered a Type SR from Tamico and taken a lottery on the customs....

The TT02D is only £109 at Fusion right now, the 10% discount brings it to less than £100!!!

Ill look into being a TC Subscriber. How much is it?

£15 for a year.  Buy this kit and you'll get £10 back on that immediately.

Got these in today for my Monster Racer new parts build I've been collecting for, in sealed unused condition.

8jTiyND.jpeg

They're a little hard to the 'finger squish test' I reckon. When I break the packaging open for the build, anyone have any advice on anythjng to use to soften them up? I've seen a few threads on here about it, and things such as glycerine and silicone oil have been mentioned. I have some 303 protectant that @Willy iinerecommended a while back, which I use to freshen up old tyres or clean off the manufacturing residues, but I'm not sure if that is more of a finisher than a nourishment for the rubber?
