The "Postman Brought Me" Thread

Also got this body. I think it's the iconic McLaren but it came with quite unique stickers. I guess they didn't have all the licenses.

I got myself a Super Avante...But not Super Avante you might think of :P

20230810_094350.thumb.jpg.b761ac9f58c9a160216a31a9725aca45.jpg

Tamiya had "Super Avante" in Mini4WD long before TD4 exists and now they made Jr. version of TD4 Super Avante as well so they have two completely different Super Avante in the same product line. Good job with the confusion, Tamiya.

Always wanted the Tamiya Castrol Civic and to my surprise its relatively easy to find just the bodyset. However this came up on eBay so I jumped on it (It had been for sale before and I missed it).

Despite slowing down my purchases, I went for this as Ive never had an FF-01, and it was finished to a far higher standard than I could ever achieve.

Wheels arent genuine but look so correct IMO

Some bearings arrived for the MB-01. Usual supplier, RCBearings, was one holiday so bought a set from Timetunnelmodels.

Local find.

I needed this like I need a hole in the head, but when a NIB kit pops up for $200(cad), you agree that the seller should become the postman and bring you a new toy.  ;)

Included a few bonus parts too, which is always nice.

Nice. What are your plans for it? I've had a boxed kit for a few months but can't seem to get excited about building it😬

I have (have had?) a similar issue, that I am hoping this kit may be the solution for...

I REALLY like inboard suspension designs... primarily because they are ridiculous, overly complex, and an engineering dream/nightmare.  I decided quite a while back that I would pick up a TC-01, TD4, and TD2 to build up a trio of inboard shock cars, with the intent of running them all.  As sales popped up, I acquired the kits, and a good deal of hop-up parts.  The "problem" with my plan, was that I opted to buy the "painted body" version of the TD4 because I REALLY liked the cheesy yellow chassis and shock springs.  After finishing up my TC-01 build, the TD4 was to be next, but I started second guessing if a full-option build on a limited edition chassis was the best plan for a runner?  I've also had plans to buy a second shell for running to keep the (ugly) OEM painted shell nice for shelf duty.  I've now spent the better part of the summer overthinking this, but now I have a second kit to add to the mix.

So what's the plan you ask?  I have no clue.

One of these will get built and run.  One will get built and likely not run.  One will get most of the upgrades Tamiya offers.

Now I just have to figure which one is which...... LOL!

That is a marvellous answer, thanks for taking the time. I have acquired all the TD4 hop ups with a plan to build it up to go with my TD2. I may get the enthusiasm if I see a few more builds on here I guess. Not used my TD2 much since my local club closed a few months ago. I'll have to find somewhere else to run it I guess.

I was always curious about tc-01 due to its uniqueness yet havent seen lots of use cases. One time i saw a vid of tc-01 rally build which is very cool and wonder why more people havent done that. Also amain has it on sale which makes me think it is not as popular (which is same is my observation)

The problem with the TC-01, is that it's a quirky Tamiya kit.

Hear me out here... I think the VAST majority of people looking for an on-road car fall into 2 categories:

  1. Racing
  2. Not Racing

If you race, you probably want a competitive car, a car that fits in a local spec class, or a car that has a lot of easy setup options.  The TC-01 is NONE of those things.

If you're not racing, and just ripping up and down the street, barking lot bashing, etc, your much more likely (IMO) to buy a cheaper less complex kit, a RTR, or something with a scale body that reflects a real car you own (or wish you owned).  The TC-01 is again, none of those things.

It's a kit that to me, is focused directly at weirdo's like us at TamiyaClub.  Enthusiasts that like the unique, like the option to upgrade and tweak, and like that it can be run well (and even raced) if one takes the time to figure the car out.  It's an oddity, a challenge, a car that lures you in with it's quirkiness and oddball charm... not with the fact that it is sporting a mustang or camaro body.

Just my 2 cents...

No pics, but I get my order from Amain Hobbies today, which included a laser cut foam insert for my Transmitter case and new M17 radio, a 1/8 J Concepts S15 buggy body for my Mugen MBX8R buggy, 4 x J Concepts Razor wings, and a wide alloy steering wheel for my M17. Ready for 1/8 racing on Sunday, weather dependent.

My 2nd project has arrived. I got a few hopups to go with it. Going to take my time and enjoy the build. Think this time I will also use the build experience to try my hand at soldering for tidier wiring and get my head around installing LED headlights.

20230817_225453.jpg To upgrade and fix my broken (my fault) M-05

20230817_225331.jpg To put in my Mid when I eventualy build it

20230817_224817.jpg20230817_225231.jpg

These to clean my M-05 before the rebuild but RC's in general in the future and also the "excuse" computers and keyboards :D. The blower that is. The other one is especially "ahum" to clean reading glasses and jewelry :D.

Postman also brought a brushless combo (no pics of that) to get my speedrun attempts at another level (I hope).

I jumped on the Buyee bandwagon. The prices for the items are pretty cheap. The shipping will certainly get you.

53123794301_857b666bcb_c.jpg

It's quite the laundry list.

-M01 complete minus body. It's nearly perfect. Full Sanwa electronics and a Tamiya battery.

-Used Tamiya 1700 battery pack.

-Two CPR160's. One needs a switch and included a servo.

-TA02 rear swaybar setup.

-HPI shock towers and turnbuckles for a TA02.

-TA03 steering with carbon bridge.

-TA03 diff with aftermarket diff gear. One of my other TA03's have the full set of gears, I just can't remember who made them at this point.

-M04. Its very clean but does show some scrapes on the bottom. Also has bearings and sway bar set.

-5 little pull back cars.

I'm very happy with this haul.
