The "Postman Brought Me" Thread

Recommended Posts

So this arrived earlier in the week courtesy of Plaza Japan...

Bits2.jpg

Some of the final bits for the TD2 Astute which I didn't intend to buy, some wheel hexes and supplies.

....Most importantly; a koi fish eraser! Finally something cool amongst all of those...pillow / sack things

Wuhuu. The picture problem is solved. Then I can post yesterdays news.

Not the postman. I picked it up all by myself at a nice guy and Tamiya Club member. I had a hard time deciding between the Carten M210R and the M-08R earlier this summer. I went for the Carten,  but never forgot about the M-08. When this turned up for a good price it was time to pull the trigger, even though it was just a normal Concept. An Escort MK2 body and stickers for making it a Mexico is already ordered and on it's way.

These beauties arrived this morning 😀

A fun weekend ahead of me - marred slightly by the stupid SkyRC Toro brushless combo that doesn’t come with reverse activated out of the box - meaning I have to wait until their Program Box comes back into stock and spend another £20 getting it working properly! 😡

How do you use Flat Clear on a Lexan Body?,

As a first coat on the inside to make non PS paints stick (and don't crack) on lexan bodies.

@simalarion Exactly, that's how I should have got this colour (that doesn't exist in PS) on my Unimog 406

20220125_131039.jpg

Does anyone of you know if wrinkels like this affect the decals once they are applied on the model? Or a way to get the wrinkels removed before application?

  20230826_222741.jpg

They came from MCI (They are not to blame, packaging was good but postal service or customs had a "crack" at them) and not cheap as they come from outside Europe customs want their share...

(I know I'm just showing the back as the decals are for a special project that has been lurking in my head for long enough now to give it a try in the "real world" and I just don't want to spoil the final effect of the car by showing the decals on their own)

Hopefully they are not actually creased you should be ok. If there has been a +90 degrees fold then it will be harder to get a smooth finish

Really wanted this shell so was going to buy a TT-02D with it, but I didnt really want another TT-02, so luckily found the shell alone. Im going to get some better wheels from Plaza the next time I order, and this will go either on my R or SRX. Need to pick some paint up. I wanted blue but maybe box art silver?

I received a "Fast Wild One", with brand new Hornet wheels/tires. Eager to see how this does in the next postal race event!

Plasma Edge II Gun Metal, and a P-100F CPU with servo for a future Avante 2011 build. Pictured, I included the recent ADSPEC Tx that was acquired recently with a Fox purchase, to show how lucky I was that they have matching frequencies! They tested perfectly. As it happened, the seller sold me a Fox shelf queen with mismatched radio gear, but I found a matching Tx for the innards of the Fox, and now have an extra ADSPEC system for cheap, as it worked out. It's nice to come out even to slightly ahead from time to time 😂

A Thunder Dragon body set for my TD4. And three sets of Voltec Fighter front wheels. I don't really need them currently but they were cheap (1€ per set) and someday I will use them. Same for the sticker sheet. It was only 5€ and for stickers I think it's better to have them in stock for possible projects.

Funnily no one else got something in the mail since my last post. Or at least doesn't post it. So here is what the postman brought today.:

Bought over a classified website it was a real bargain for 160€ posted, including the alloy diff nut.

Not the postman (and not even Tamiya related ;)) but this is one of my all time favorite small planes for flying around the yard, at a park, indoors, campground etc.   Great flying, handles well and can be surprisingly aerobatic if you turn up the rates and is quiet.   The fine folks at Horizon discontinued this actual plane a while ago and my original one has so many flights on it, the control board is starting to act up.

I've been trying to find one of these for several months and then came across one on Facebook Market place.    BRAND NEW in a box!   Wonderful gentlemen that met me about an hour away.  Turns out he's got a bunch of Tamiya cars including two "bowtie" Clodbusters.   Just bound the plane to my transmitter over lunch and will flying it in the yard this evening.  :)

I often contemplate a slow flyer for my yard (not wanting a helicopter), but never sure about a proper sized and slow flying plane for beginners, with so many to choose from.

How big is your yard?  If you're a beginner a yard may not render your best results.   A large field with no trees may be your best option or even better yet, find a model airplane club near by.  We LOVE to help get new pilots into the hobby!

Also keep in mind the latest FAA transponder rules that take effect in the next few weeks.  Anything over 8oz in weight has to have a transponder or you have to fly at an FAA recognized model aircraft field.

I'm on just about an acre, less than half with large canopy trees. I'd prefer to just mess around in the yard to see if I even take to it. Got a big 'ol asphalt driveway for touch and goes, lol

Definitely stay below 8oz which is easy to do with a lot of choices.    While they've been discontinued for a while, if you can find a Hobbyzone Champ, pick one up.  I've seen more folks learn how to fly unassisted on that plane than any other one in the 35 years I've been flying.    If you can't find that one, perhaps try the the UMX Vapor.  Keep in mind none of these should be flown in even the slightest about of wind till you really get the hang of it.

Thanks I'll check out those links. I have to dust off my RealFlight stuff and see if my old laptop will fire up, lol. I'm pretty sure I have a Spektrum remote floating around somewhere, with the intention years ago of getting a slow/park BNF of some kind. Something cathartic to help melt some work stress away, is all.

Wow, you're 3/4th there.   Having RealFlight and Spektrum airplane TX is a perfect scenario.   It's soooo much easier to use a full size remote then one of the game controller style that's usually packed with these.   Just a reminder, almost all of the small RC's that come with a "Spektrum" RC protocol can be bound with your Spektrum radio.   So even if you find a Champ with the small Tx, you can use your full size instead.  The only issue would be how old your Spektrum is.  Some new ones work with two or even three protocols over the years.   Most of the small UMX size stuff works with all of them.   Best of luck.  Wish your were closer to Pa, I'd teach you myself!

Today I received a nice surprise from a colleague in Japan. We’ve worked together ‘virtually’ a few times and recently we chatted about our hobbies and when I mentioned Tamiya he told me he had them as a kid but had forgotten all about it. Since then he has purchased several kits!

I’ve not had a chance to look properly yet but seems like a cool little book.

I think they tend to focus on grasshopper series and holiday buggy (tons of varieties) and race them a lot (which i would love to do)
