The "Postman Brought Me" Thread

Recommended Posts

Postie dropped these off this morning:D  I’m not on the beginning of his round but he’s got local knowledge of his route/round which unfortunately is missing from general society so well done postie take note Hermes or evri or whatever they call themselves this month and the evri driver that keeps on launching my packages roughly in the direction of my back garden! Anyway rant over! Parts for my Schumacher LD2 for the winter club racing rounds and retro brushed motors for a few vintage rc’s in the future.

As Ive said time and time again. Its important for me to have the RC I want regardless of condition. As long as I get it,  I can always upgrade it later on.....

In my mission to complete Gran Turismo 3 with Tamiyas, next on the list was a Calsonic R34. Theres been a NIB one on eBay for what seems forever on a TA04 Chassis for £349.  Ive come close to buying it. But never have. This one then turned up on eBay, used, and on a TT01. I thought it was an old shell on a TT01, but turns out this was probably #58314. I missed this existed when doing my list. Im not fussed about the chassis as I have a NIB TA04 Zexel so. The pictures werent great, I submitted an offer and used some Nectar points and I won it for less than a Third of the cost of the NIB (albeit a different much less desirable chassis).

It arrived today and you know what its not that bad! No cracks, just could do with some new decals which I can get should I need too. Im really pleased with this one.

Also today. Noticed this for sale on Saturday on MSUK forum. An Astute 2022 with plenty of hop ups! Now did I want an Astute 2022? No, do I know what one is? Also no. But this seemed a great deal and no offencr to the previous owner its usually me who spends hundreds on an RC and sells it with little or no use at a massive loss. So why not. Ive also sold a fair few Traxxas recently....

v3EKdl6.jpeg

A Plethora of Hop Ups. Slipper Clutch, Alloy Shocks, CVDs etc already installed. BZ Motor/1060 and spare wheels/tyres.

Credit to the seller. Its beautifully finished. Its when I buy other peoples builds I realise how bad my painting skills are 😅

Tamiya's are taking over. This was all Traxxas terroritory at the start of the year!

Very good, you're a convert!

I have a worrying number of the same models along your bottom row there. I'm not looking forward to the HKS sticker job. Great collection.

I just need a Raybrig NSX and I think thats it. The Pennzoil R34 and the “proper’ Supra are too much for me I think. Next is Porsches….. upsettingly I already had 3 of them and sold them :(

Just got these in the mail today, excited to start my BBX build. I just need a few more upgrades and I’ll be good to go.

I think the ARTA NSX is more iconic to the Gran Turismo series, or the Takata Dome (Metallic Green - if you can find one) but the Raybrig is definitely the more common Tamiya and likely the easiest to lay your hands on.

EDIT:

Postman has just been, delivered this: (Generic pic from online)

M05 bare chassis kit. I bought this because my "Car Park Basher Build" has gotten out of hand and the wheelbase for my Mini Cooper (210mm) doesn't suit that for my MK2 Golf GTI (239mm). It was logical to spend another £80

I was looking at those on Tamico. They're only about 50 Euros on there, but I would have had to make the order up to 140 to get it shipped!

Ended up getting a M05 Pro via Buyee (thanks @sogogi) instead. So i've now ditched plans for getting an M07 (for now).

Its funny to see everyone still buying M05s, not that it's a bad chassis, it just hasn't quite been "replaced" by the MB01 yet... if it will ever be.

Speaking of the MB01, after 3 different attempts I finally found a "good" 29t pinion for my MB01. It's a Chinese no-name gear that comes in a bundle. Robinson doesn't make anything this size and I really didn't want to drop $10 for the Yeah Racing gear.

Frankly I feel very odd trying to tune the MB01, "odd" in that it's a new thing, hardly anyone's doing much with it, and I'm generally behind the times in everything that I do.

Another Hitec servo.

With AMain's coupon that was all of 20$, a guilt free purchase and perfect guinea pig for The Pylon80 High Voltage Experiment. Something @alvinlwh will appreciate ;) According to the box it can take 2S "straight pipe", no BEC required. I will be making an adapter soon and see if I get the magic smoke or not 🤞😬

One crusty, beat-up original Turbo Optima, with cheap Chinese wheels and tires and a Castle brushless system that it will not be keeping. Someone trimmed the ends of the bumper, added some weight-saving "speed holes" to the chassis, but otherwise it looks straight and intact. Has a belt-drive conversion too, it looks like.

(for the nth time, getting -200 errors all the time - pfah!)

This is as close as I'll ever get to a JJ Ultima ... :D (no, they didn't mix the orders up - Tamiya stuff inside, actually)

Yeah unfortunately this forum is getting kinda awkward and a bit annoying to use I get the same error message on random posts or the pictures just randomly disappear! It can be very frustrating<_< try emptying your attachments in your account sometimes that works for me?

I've not had any issues before (don't post all that many photos) - but if it continues, I'll just have to look at some sort of other solution (like tcphoto or using my Flickr account).

Bits have started to arrive for my M05 build, even though the chassis still hasn't even left Japan yet...

Tamiya bits are both harder to find and much more expensive.

I am starting to love HV servos, so snappy and strong. I think I did not reply to your thread earlier as I missed it. So here goes. My idea for your adaptor will be to solder it to the battery connector a female servo extender. Disconnect the signal cable to plug direct into RX while the servo get plugged into this extender, giving it the full 100C of the lipo. This way you avoid frying anything else you may have connected to the RX or the RX itself. Is this what you intend to do? If yes, then ignore me. 😁

Now, I remember someone mentioning that connecting it unregulated to the battery means it's performance will drop along with battery voltage. But looking at the numbers, even if you run the lipo to the minimum 3V per cell, you are only loosing 0.02s and 1.1kg, does it matter? And if you are to follow the advise of some to only run your lipo to 3.85V, you lost less than half that.

It is a shame that very few brushed ESC offer HV BEC, I only found one, the Radiolink one that allows selection between 6V and 7.5V. The other one is the very unreliable ISDT ESC70/90.

I will post picture and info on the 'No BEC' thread but this is basically as you described. The 1060's BEC will power the Rx as usual but power to the servo will be straight from the battery 👌

I find it interesting that manufacturers had to wait for IC engines to be in the rear view mirror (which is a little sad) to adapt the receivers and servos to the proper voltage; instead the world of electric RC has lived with a crutch (the BEC) for decades. It's finally over it seems.

I feel like you are going through the same journey that I am going through .

sometimes m05/m06 bits pop up on buyee which you can add in without paying much more shipping if you use their consolidation service.
