The "Postman Brought Me" Thread

Must agree. I’ll continue to do it of course, but you honestly need to be EXTREMELY loyal to Tamiya to keep buying them these days. Theres just so much better out there in terms of value. Im genuinely concerned about Tamiya’s future outside of Japan. Cant see why someone new to RC would go for a Tamiya in 2023.

Indeed. I love the nostalgic stuff but moving forward the nearest close comparison I can come up with is the Gorgon v the Squash Van. The battery free Gorgon is about £150 and yes it’s 2wd but the Squash Van is £200+ without radio bearings and possibly decent suspension due to friction shocks. To bring it up to Gorgon spec would be £30-70 depending on if you have radio!!

I admit I stopped searching. I got my set from a fellow TC member, with the molded insert. These inserts are actually a bit too hard for me so I am using the soft foams from the racing slick packet. Do you want my inserts? Would be glad to help a fellow TC member. I like your builds. And it's Christmas soon 😬

Thats really decent of you:) not sure i could ask you to send them to me for free though!!

Yes I am in the US. I do like that these came to me from Northern Europe and then would go back to Scotland 🤣

Postie finally brought this - it left Tamico almost 3 weeks ago. Good old Royal Fail efficiency for you.

FAV3.thumb.jpg.3cefba00acc5e034eb992b2aeecc170b.jpg

You may be thinking this is a peculiar set of parts. Mostly Wild One.

You'd be right, because back in the day when I built my FAV Shark Mouth I bought Metal Parts Bags for the Wild One so I could have the alloy dampers - it actually worked out quite cheap, because the genuine FAV Black Anodised dampers (#84258) were a limited edition and they were hard to find back then (2011) let alone now - unsurprisingly they command a hefty premium! They're essentially (to the best of my knowledge - happy to be corrected) just the Wild One dampers...but black. The Wild One dampers suited the FAV Shark Mouth quite well too, what with the main body being silver.

FAV.thumb.jpg.56a0a889e64b1d677949480f1236b927.jpg

Seen fitted here with Kyosho Scorpion rear wheels and tyres thanks to some adapters from Ampro Engineering (3D Printed) B)

If I add the parts from Tamico to the box of bits I have leftover-

FAV2.thumb.jpg.1c9ac90d22e805d9f70844e429364b1e.jpg

I can effectively build an FAV / Wild One hybrid thing (excuse the Baja Champ wheels)

Now, you may have already spotted that I've acquired all of the metal plated parts from the Blockhead Motors Wild One. It was my plan to fit these bits onto my FAV Shark Mouth and have an über-bling model.

I was also going to re-paint the body in a similar bright silver.

But now I'm torn.

  • Proceed with über-chrome strategy and use the Shark Mouth MCi decals @svenb helped me acquire, then bits-a-build a weird FAV / WO hybrid with all the leftovers

or

  • Preserve the Shark Mouth (which isn't exactly mint) and combine all the new chrome parts into a bits-a-build

What does TC reckon?

It's not as if I haven't already got enough half-finished projects in my shed...

So is the question - "do I turn this into one half-built project or two?"

😅

It's been a few days since I laid eyes on this.

It started snowing, there was so much fog this morning that I almost ended up on the motorway (on my bicycle), but the world is still turning in  the right direction.

So I wonder if it's maybe a tuned down re-re? Whatever, give us a warning when you ever plan to hook it up to Lipo power 😁

I'm going to unleash 12V of Trinity Monster Horsepower Machine testing onto this beast! If you suddenly get jettisoned eastward off your feet, you'll know why . . .

My one "Black Friday" RC purchase...

6aBHtuL.jpg

It will never be built up as the Lotus, but I've been on the search for a cheap M06 for quite a while, and this fit the bill.

The 1/43 Solidio 106 turned up and I’m genuinely delighted with it.

If an Indigo blue Otto 1/18 turns up, I’ll have one of those as well.

HPI used to do a 106 body shell and it would have been awesome to me to have one on a Tamiya chassis -

Pictures are of my Indigo blue 106 Rallye in action - back in 2007 both photos were taken at Mallory Park.

Well done Tamico for selling each and every little pack, even the ones with the 57 digit codes like the 2x8mm shafts. Do they break up and repackage kits themselves? No-one else seems to sell many of these little items. So I've got my BBX gearbox...

20231202_180411

Although, my punt on Losi spurs hasn't paid off. Smaller spur pad (29mm vs 32mm). Perhaps I could fit smaller pads, but I suspect not, I think the disks will rub the spur plastic. On further research, looks like it's the Associated ones I need. If anyone would like a Losi spur (75 or 78 tooth) please yell.

Also, two cans of the precious PS Dark Blue for a cheeky Fiat shell, some pretty wheels for my roadie XV-01 and stainless underguards for my BBX...

Not the postman but more or less by chance I found this little guy:

20231202_220420_sdeMwAXZ3n.thumb.jpeg.ffd88dcea5e2064fa072f9129f15be2b.jpeg

I went to the recycling station to get rid of some electrical scrap and when I put itbin the container I saw it. It's marked on the under side as Yonezawa Wave Hunter and rebatched on the body as an Schuco (German toy manufacturer). From the first look its pretty good for an about 40 years old toy (marked with 1981 on the chassis) But when looking twice it got cracks on the bed cover and the horn on the roof and the bull bar is missing. Nevertheless I like it. It is powered by one motors for wach axle and can be switched between 2wd and 4wd b a switch on the bed. Unfortunately I couldn't find the remote. So I have to find a suitable remote or rebuild it with modern electronics. Time will tell...
