Center drive shaft upgrade really helps. (Stock one is so weak)

Nope. They're for the Optima which apparently are 1 tooth less than the Mid belt. So that means the tension adjuster should be able to get the belt a little tighter. That's the plan anyway. Hoping to start the build soon.

A Novafox awaiting paint and decals - the body and wing are cut out ready to go.  I've got a SuperBoomerShot next on the list to build which I'm aiming to get done in the next couple of weeks, then I can have a painting weekend  :)

Exciting times. I nearly went for a Novafox but chose the Wild One instead. Enjoy the builds👌

Cheers!  The Novafox was great, and one of my first non-box art builds.  I'm really looking forward to the SuperBoomerShot and Top Force as they'll also be non-standard.  The Boomerang will have dual front shocks and the Top Force will have modified CVAs, some hop-up bits and bobs plus a metallic red/TRF decal paint job  :D

Got a soft spot for the Fox. Something very cool about it. Your Boomer plan sounds similar to mine, maybe. I might also get on with it in the next few weeks.

Are you going Bigwig-style or Supershot-style?

I've got Supershot mounting brackets plus I want to have a roll bar so I'm using a Hotshot II bar and brackets.  Hopefully it will all go together OK...

I have the Supershot lower mounts so my thinking is Supershot style but with home made CF/GRP upper mounts which I will try to dimension to allow chassis bottom out, perhaps also with Hornet brackets to rotate the shock tops 90° and enable me to bring them inboard as much as the body will allow. I was also thinking about making sway bar mounts out of the same material (maybe even part of the same piece) if the car still wants a sway bar with a dual shock setup, but I wonder whether it'll be wanted.

The other change I'd like to make is build a chassis tub out of the same sheet material, to stiffen around the battery and fit bell crank steering, although I might build it stock first. Ultimately I'm aiming for a sort of "heavily modified but on a budget" Boomerang. Very much looking forward to the exercise.

Now, THIS is what I ordered!  :)

I just pulled it from the box, removed some foam packing and shot this photo.  It still needs some final assembly (running boards) and removal of the sticky dots so the doors and hood will open.

Anyway, I’m not a huge Toyota fan but I do like early Hilux and FJ’s.  I recall when this model was released by FMS about 8 months back.  I was captivated by its many details, functioning doors and hood and scale accuracy.  This is the most detailed FJ40 available as an RC that I've seen; nearly erasing the line between a static display model and RC.

But it wasn’t until I caught Alberto’s (AMPro Eng.) recent video showcasing his new wheels and hubcaps for this rig that I was persuaded to get one for myself.  His wheels are precisely what this model needed.

In addition to changing the wheels, I plan to do a bit more detail work on the body, remove the roof rack, add front inner fenders, and either upgrade the shocks or do the leaf spring conversion.  I’m leaning toward leafs; 1:1 FJ’s from this era were equipped with leaf springs.  Oh, and I’ll need to find a suitable driver figure.

This should be fun little RC project and a welcome break from working around the house.  :)

Long nose pliers for RC - shocks specifically, the nose is a bit chunky so the jury is out on these for the moment and a trial run with a handheld vacuum cleaner that blows, RC again but should multiple uses around the house, keyboards, cars seats, etc, etc -

My 2024 Buy Nothing Year is not at all going according to plan... After visiting the off-road track a couple of weeks ago I simply got the latest and greatest 2WD buggy from AE. Vintage buggies are cute - extremely cute - but the modern ones have made such a quantum leap in performance that I couldn't help getting one.

Since it's a very different side of the hobby compared to the collectible and custom made vehicles we normally see on TC I am wondering if that might be an interesting topic for The Builds?

I just saw this recently announced accessory addition for RC4WD.   Supposed to be 1/10th scale as is your FMS FJ but we all know not everything in this hobby is correct with their "scale math".  ;)

I'm going to order one as I'm sure something I have is would be a good fit for this.

Thanks, I need to check that out.

I just tried an approximately 12" tall figure and he wouldn't fit - maybe 1/2" too tall.

While a 1/10 scale figure will certainly fit, I think he might look a bit small in this FJ.
