The "Postman Brought Me" Thread

Recommended Posts

Bit of a mini haul today, so I will number everything then describe it

HvR9buZ.jpg

1. 2x 540 heatsink + fan units, for my Nikko project, which it turns out will come in handy as I appear to have been mislead about how 540 motors run "barely warm" in such a scenario.

2. Cheap Quicrun 1060 alike ESC. Just curious to try it for £5, especially as it's not an exact reproduction of a 1060, which is unusual.

3. 2 cheap MG996R clone servos. Just got them to bump my order up enough to use a voucher.  £1.50 each. I bought a load before and they were perfectly serviceable (seemed to have better electronics inside vs similar ones I'd bought a few years prior) hopefully these are the same kind of "better fakes" but it was just cart filler, really.

4. Plates to rise the 2 speed transmission in the WPL C24 slightly (I love having the 2 speed but it definitely likes to bump into rocks etc and get it hung up)

5. "Upgrade" 370 motor for the aforementioned WPL 2 speed. No idea if it's actually any good, but it came with the plates.

6. Mini hand drill for precision drilling. I don't have one and it cost peanuts so I thought I would try it. Seems to work very well!

7. Little 280 size brushed motor. I have an FTX/Hobby Plus rock van crawler that has a 130 size motor but they sell a "big block" upgrade motor which is a 280. This is just to try out as an alternative just to see what happens.

8. 2 x cheapo 20T sealed can motors. Were supposed to be for my Nikko project, because everyone else who has done the same thing says how cool their 540 motors run, but it's starting to look like that only applies if your testing regime involves a few minutes of back and forth passes....so maybe not suitable, now. These cost a whopping £3.75 each.

9.  2 x cheapo 21t rebuildable motors. As above. Maybe not suitable.

went to the local hobby shop yesterday to pick this Tamiya BT-01 up. also bought ball bearings for it, and a TS-42 spray.

Nice Supra B)

But your TS paint is only good for hard plastics, you can't paint the body with it. You can try mixing it with some PS-55 Flat Clear but it's not guaranteed to work without just flaking off. Hobby shop shouldn't have sold you that paint if it's intended for the body.

thanks :)

i know about the paint. it's not for a body shell, but for some plastic parts. the shop did also tell about it :)

Two separate deliveries of motors from AT, beating PJ's price increase.

First is a TZ.

72IbuzG.jpeg

Costing £24.80 delivered.

yoh8Igx.jpeg

While PJ wants £38.11.

x5kPNqN.jpg

Next package is a GT and a FL.

v6auhdd.jpeg

Costing me £41.53.

2IzeDpR.jpeg

PJ does not have the GT in stock so I cannot compare the delivered price directly but they listed the GT at £23.34 and the FL at £22.65. Meaning they cost more at PJ pre delivery. So folks, PJ is no longer the cheapest place to get stuff.

But why 2 separate orders? I pay even less postage if it was a single order. I get a set free aluminium wheel hexes per order. These retails at £8 each.

I can now tick off the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR bodyshell off the want list… just have to decide which sticker sheet to use, red Carrera or Martini?

I will have to decide what wheels to fit later, will be needing 9mm offsets for the rear I reckon.

Postage wasn’t much more to add the Skyline shell to the same order,  plus who doesn’t like a Skyline?

I know there are some topics here regarding the quality and capability of those Chinese trucks but as Ali has a lot of discounts during the Uefa Euro 2024 it only costs me €34 delivered. And for that I take it as what it is: a small, nice looking truck for my backyard. Additionally I've got a Injora low profile servo for €15 and a 3500kv brushless motor for €13 delivered.

Which chassis is the RSR going on @Jason1145? I've got one up in the loft. Had the idea that I'd swap it for the 934 until I found out they had a different WB...after I'd got both

I'm fact, I think I sold you the TT-02 chassis the RSR came on!

If you get stuck,  then let me know I’ve got a new built, unfinished  TT02D that would be a cheap fix.

Yikes I had forgotten this RSR shell (51543) was a 251mm wheelbase, thanks for that reminder and just in time to as I’ve just started building a TT02 kit in a bag chassis, now I’ll make it 251mm 🥳

Hmmm I’m trying to think what other 251mm shell I wouldve bought that chassis for, I don’t doubt I did but can’t remember it now - it definitely wasn’t this 911 Porsche as I’ve always wanted one.

@Badcrumble I’ll need some help finding wheels for the RSR later - pre warning 😂

As long as you're aware, that you have to do some mods to get some performance out of them, they're a nice thing to start from. I have some Willys Jeeps from a similar manufacturer. My actual issue is to get better motor/tranny combos that fit under the body.

That's an ace looking body 👍🏻 pity there aren't the MICHELIN decals included in the kit!

I had some replacements made up, couldn't live with being on the original release and not the rerelase

I think it's been a bit since I purchased a Traxxas. I had a TRX-4 a few years ago, sold it and then recently became infatuated with the TRX-6. Found one for very reasonable on Facebook that is pretty close to being new. Not a scratch on the bottom and just some dust collection from being parked on a shelf.  After a 70 mile trip southeast for a halfway point meet up, I'm back with this slice of happiness. Next step is the Hobbywing Axe system.

VJabW75.jpg

You got a nice one there! Maybe one of the best performing RTR chassis out of the box. I always wanted a TRX-4 Chevrolet Blazer as addition to my Bronco, but then Traxxas released the TRX-6. And I love "multi-axle-chassis'"! I am actually at the point where I believe that "tuning" a Traxxas chassis is something for masochists. I made the experience back in the days when I owned a E-Maxx. An AXE FOC may be OK, but I won't do much more with a Traxxas model. I may become a bottomless pit. I revived my experiences with my TRX-4 Bronco. Yeah Racing metal axles, weights and tranny case. The weights did not fit onto the axles w/o some modifications. And much more hassle with it. Just my two cents.

Totally agree with you. I do no competitive crawling and most of the metal stuff people slap on their vehicles seems like throwing money away (obviously there are some great upgrades out there for weak parts and true competition). When I had my TRX4 I had purchased the kit and found the build to be excellent. I wish the Trx6 was a kit!  I never threw any additions on my TRX4 because it was quite great right from the build. I’m not a huge fan of trx esc so I figured with the good deal I got on the Trx6, I might as well get the Axe system. It’s still sitting and waiting for installation, but I have 16 days of vacation coming up in July and a new workbench/desk that is nearly complete. Can’t wait to try it out!

An accidental re re Rough Rider , I know it's not called that now but it was when I had my original one in 1979/80.
I've been wanting one for ages but could not justify the £320 plus price tag.
Could not resist it at £265 inc postage from S C Models, thought I had missed out when I dithered about spending money I don't really have but one came back into stock when I looked again.
Ordered 11:30 pm Friday and delivered 8:30am Sunday.
Brilliant service.
Unfortunately I have to hide it away until Christmas now.
I will be looking for upgrades though if anyone can recommend any, and deciding what colour to paint it, my original one was red I think but can't find any photos :(

Next on the hit list is a Willy's Wheeler, missed a used re re in January but keep hoping that something will show up locally, this was my second Tamiya
Not at all envious @BuggyDad  😂

New Kyosho Receiver for the Mad Van, I thought originally it was the servo but plugging another one in it showed the same glitch, and the considered faulty servo works fine through another receiver.

A spare Flysky BS-6 Receiver & some Jetko Super Soft wheels & tyres for RbB. They grip a wear very well where I use them.

I am so easily distracted by a flashy looking car, although I know opinion is split on this but I’m in the “like” camp!

Huge thanks to fellow member @Kpowell911 for this beautifully built and painted TD2 with a host of hop ups and spares to boot.

The attention to detail, adding Velcro to hold the body on the shell, the protective tape over the bodyshell holes, and I’m not sure if the foam on the nose for the front of the shell is stock or not?

It comes with a 1060, SuperStock BZ, Injora Low profile 14kg servo with alloy horn, DF03 alloy shocks, Slipper Clutch, CVD’s and alloy rear suspension holder, TT01 Turnbuckle tie rod set.

Must remember it now uses a 48p pinion thanks to the Slipper ( not 0.6 stock)

Best part was some extra kit wheels with Schumacher tyres and a host of other NIP hop ups!

Plus some free dust on the shell 🥳

I cannot wait for my tarmac tyres to arrive to rip this thing down the local park!
