A slightly different Group C car. Been looking for a nib one for ages then one appeared on ebay for a reasonable amount (and it wasnt the one thats been on their for years in switzerland for £700!!!!)

The only slightly alarming thing is it doesnt look like these kits came with window masks and all the red and blue swoopy shapes are expected to be done in paint (the stickers are the window frames and sponsers only)

People were made of tougher stuff back when these kits came out.

And now for something completely different.

Im lucky enough to own (in my opinion) some absolutely stunning, iconic Tamiya’s. So to balance the books Ive bought what, (in my opinion) is the most ridiculous, ugly current Tamiya…..

Smtx3q1.jpeg

Let me explain…… I enjoyed the BT-01, and I like the idea of the MB-01. Ive got a brand new in box M-01 Mini Cooper, a runner M-01 and an XM-01 Pro. So when this popped up on ebay for LESS THAN A THIRD of the UK price including postage I bit.

Its build but never used with all the parts, box and instructions. The shell is painted, but Im not really bothered about that.

Its got an ESC, Motor and Servo

Plan is a new body shell. But honestly, Im pretty underwhelmed by what Mini Shells are avaliable unless Im missing something?

Yes. No mirrors. I thought they were missing but theres no mention of them in the instructions, plus Ive never seen one with the mirrors. Strange!

I did a search and I got an AI reply (I did scroll down for other search results, but I doubt an actual answer is out there, if it is it's probably hard to find.)
The AI reply does make sense, that's also a reason why I didn't bother to look any further.

The Tamiya Porsche 996 GT3 kits, and many other Tamiya model cars, are known to come without exterior mirrors as a design choice. This is often done for a few reasons:

    Reduced Complexity:
By omitting mirrors, Tamiya can simplify the construction and reduce the number of parts needed, making the kit easier and less time-consuming to build, especially for beginners.
    Simplified Appearance:
Some modelers prefer a more streamlined, uncluttered look on their models, and the absence of mirrors contributes to that aesthetic.
    Cost Reduction:
Fewer parts mean lower manufacturing costs, which can be passed on to the customer in the form of a lower price for the kit.
    Scale Modeling Focus:
In the world of model making, some builders focus on the overall shape and design of the vehicle, rather than the detailed representation of every exterior component, according to a model enthusiast.
    Optional Addition:
Modelers can always add mirrors to their kits if they desire them, using aftermarket parts, or even creating their own from scratch.

While the lack of mirrors might seem like a drawback, many modelers appreciate the simplicity and the opportunity to customize their models to their own preferences. According to Tamiya model car builders

Forgot to post these, got 2 packages from Germany, both delivered on Thursday, but I had to pick up 1 of the packages in Germany, picked it up on Friday on my bicycle and also did some grocery shopping as rum is about half the price^_^

H-parts for a Nissan Skyline R32, R33 (2x) and R34, also stickers for the R33 and 2 cans of PS XX (Dark Blue) while it's still available.

The package I picked up in Germany had a Toyota Celica LB Turbo body inside, and for a change some H-parts.

Unfortunately no stickers:(
On the bright side, at least I have a body and repro stickers seem to be available.
Used to drool over the 58009 when I was in mid school in the early/mid 80's (No, I'm not that old, I was an early student:P)

Why do these things always go OOP and OOS without a warning?
Glad I recently bought the 1/12 Martini Porsche 935 just in time, as currently importing is the only, more expensive, option... seems the kit has been discontinued

Can you guess the paint scheme/livery?

Beautiful! One of my favourite body shells, it looks great when finished too, the proportions all work really nicely 👍

Has it been rereleased then?

As for the livery...I did a Team Black Falcon Bilstein AMG a couple of years ago which was there or thereabouts...am I close?

This was my initial first choice of rc car as just love the style, especially the gold! But went with the Tamiya Egress instead, which i love too.

Now feeling a little more confident to try build my second car. The instructions look quite daunting, but said that about the Egress also!

Just been delivered today.. Tigger is keeping guard for me!

Now I want another one with box.

Supposedly the TT-02 kit that comes with the R8 LMS body was released may 31, I'm pretty sure I've seen the body kit for sale before that, I could be wrong though.
But yes, the 51754 body kit has been re-released.

Great combo would be the CPR160 unit with a early super stock or Dyna-run motor

A new Kimborough servo saver. Fitted one to the MB the other week. Very effective. Hoping for a similar result on the Lunchbox.

Isn't the counter gear on the TL-01 on the weak side? I have a nice TZ ready to go but I was reluctant to using it in my yet to be finished TL-01LA.

I raced a TL01 LA with a over the top 10.5 brushless motor and that held up

I have a TL-01LA with over two decades of racing under its belt and no significant counter gear wear.

The postie delivered a Japan Special today...I've been off Buyee for a couple of years but took a chance look a couple of weeks ago and hit (blue) gold in one visit :)

Dampers and rims for my 'Bluebird' TA03F-TRF bits-a-build; I've managed to track down just about every TA03-appropriate blue part that Tamiya (or certain 3rd parties) ever made, but the one that has eluded me despite a three year search is a set of the 49029 blue plated 5 spoke one piece racing rims. They would have been the perfect finishing touch but I've given up looking...these 3rd party 6-spokes will have to do the job, and they do look pretty fine!

The kingpins and hub carriers are for a future TA02 project and the body mounts for my next and final TA04 project
