I am currently looking for a new tourer for parking lot racing, there is a 27T limit. I have a Surikarn EVO 3, but for carpet only! Does any person here race the EVO 4 or 5? Is it easy to put in and take out motors in comparison to the EVO 3? I ask because the EVO 3 is a pain when it comes to install or pulling a motor, it takes me 20 minutes because I take the back gearbox/suspension off for clear motor alignment with spur!!

Do these cars come with hex head screws (prefered)? Besides these questions, my EVO 3 is a fun and fast tourer that is why I wanted to get another shaft car, they seem better for 19T-27T motors (JMO). I have my eye on 2 other tourers also, the TA-05R or TA-05MS, no motor install problems with these belt cars I am sure. Just need some info to help make a decision about the shaft cars, especially the motor install part...

BTW- I use hex drivers

i run a fleet of evos... III-5

you shouldn't have to take off the whole tail end just to mesh your spur

have you peeking thru the slot of the rear diff outdrive motor-side ?? see the spur easy

or you can do it by feel anyway, rocking the gears back & forth

Changing the spur needs taking the rear end off, but can be a 2min job when you do it enough.

If you have troubles with III, it'll be worse with evo5... top deck is lower, gets in the way of motor screw even.

TA05's motor screw is accessed thru the battery compartment... needs a long tool.

yeah IV & 5 comes with steel hex screws in the box.

Surikarn evoIII has titanium screws.

Thanks WillyChang

Actually the spur mesh part is easy.. My problem is I cannot get a clear space for my hex driver to pass through the rear of the chassis's A-arms/suspension area to install a motor because it is blocked, that was my concern with the newer EVO's. I race with a guy who has a Yokomo SD and he can take a motor out in a minute using a hex driver from the back of the chassis but I can not do the same with the EVO 3?!? May be the SD series is more user friendly than the EVO??? Any way, I hate L-wrenches so I'll probably go belt.

Evo v is a bit more complicated due to its low center of gravity design, but the IV is much easier to service than the 3, in my opinion. If anything, all you have to do is disconnect the damper or just hold it compressed. Tamiya released alot of hopups for the IV, but hardly any for the V. Suspension parts are pretty much the same, except for the shorter arms on the V. I dont like the IV sway bar setup, so Im using V sway bars on my IV. I noticed my aluminum hubs fit too tight on the short arms, so im running standard lightweight arms, but I may go back to plastic hubs and short arms. Evo V has one piece lower bulkhead, so that's a plus over IV's 3 piece, unless you go for the MS version. Yokomos are supposedly easier to take the spur out, but if you're running a large spur, it's just as annoying to get to it. The spur still catches on the top deck and you have to loosen alot of screws. Evos have alloy bulkheads, so there is less wear from loosening the screws, but yokomo plastic parts strip very easily if youre not careful.

jason is selling a Limited Edition GREEN ALLOY hopup kit for EvoIV... yes you know you want it :)

I have seen it but I actually prefer the blue. The blue EVO will look nice with my red Surikarn :)

Have any one used instant cement on the prop shaft pin like the instructions say??? Seems odd to me..

whatever it takes to keep the pin secured!

if you've got the plastic cups, could consider something more durable like alloy if using crazy motors

Blue is boring :D besides, the Evo5 looks better in blue.

EvoIV in light green would complete the rainbow against Red eIIIse, dark green eIII and blue e5.

Now i just need an Orange :)

Since we can only use 27T motors at the track, I got all Light Weight Cups, Prop and Prop shafts - NO PLASTIC.. I also added Titanium screw set and my NEW EVO4 still cost almost $170.00 less than the EVO5- I shop smart :D ..

BTW WillyChang, does Tamiya make GREEN TRF Dampers?

does Tamiya make GREEN TRF Dampers?

not in a box but i have seen online the TRF bodies & caps sold in green ("show specials")

EvoIV comes with stock grey shocks doesn't it? not blue.

that EvoIV green bag doesn't include the propshaft too i suspect, its available separately

the built ones, they are all regular runners

popped a pack into the IV this evening to do some donuts in the loungeroom;

came back sprinkled with silvery flakes. Steering link contacted the new GREEN shaft

(which is already lightweight/skinnier) and gouged a ring 1mm deep.

Here's a scary pic B) ... dug out all the unattached hingepin bars from the toolbox:-
