About the third time in 2 weeks here. Same responses / information each time.

Must be a recurring fault or maybe something caused by backup routines or the like.... Just a guess

Yup , I ran into it a few times the past few weeks now . Though to me I would allmost bet its Chris working on the website ...

I guess I am just a bit dissapointed. I pay as well as many others, a substantial fee in order to keep the website up an running. But as of late, it has been inaccessible on a number of occasions. I subscribe to quite a few free sites which don't encounter the number of problems we do here. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing here, I would hope that this would spur Chris to improve the site so that there are not any disruptions in service.

Maybe if there was a set amount of down time for the forum each week. I seem to remember one of the site I was on used to shutdown and reboot every Friday morning for an hour ( housekeeping so to speak)

The problem would be that with all of us all over the world its bound to affect someone

Wow, at least it's good to see I'm not alone in this sentiment. I happen to agree with this completely. I even went out on a limb and suggested the same thing to Chris, but I won't bother telling you what he said; you probably wouldn't like it. I understand this isn't his 'job' per se, but I don't feel like requesting his regular presence or attention to paying customers is asking too much of him. As it stands, the free members get basically the same level of service as the paying members do, unless you count the modding of the showrooms and trades area. Everything else is just bandwidth and server space as far as I'm concerned.

And who are the mods anyhow?? I see there are designated moderators for the forum, but on the site it appears that Chris is solely responsible for what goes on there... or am I mistaken? I got all excited a couple months ago when Chris announced that he would be taken on new mods since the number of new members warranted it, but have heard little to nothing of this since then. (I guess he's in Dubai? lol)

Please everyone don't take this the wrong way, I really do love the Club and what Chris has produced for us, but I have a lot of my own hard work into this site, as do many others. Maybe I take it all just a bit too seriously, but it's my money and time, so I do feel as though I have a stake in it so-to-speak. All I want is some sort of commitment that my efforts here won't be wasted and taken for granted. We have the most wonderful archive out there for Tamiya and other collector RC models, and I suspect there will never be another like it. Why not treat it as such?

Of course this is Chris's playground, so he can 'rule' it as he sees fit, but this 'if you don't like it you can play elsewhere' attitude really burns my rear. This attitude never works because dissatisfaction always turns into dissent, and people get tired of the nonsense and leave. I've already seen it happen with this place over the past couple years and it just isn't the same without them. Sure, people naturally come and go as their interests change, but I've seen some very talented and intelligent people literally driven from this site because of misplaced concerns and misunderstood intentions. Granted that is wasn't intentional, but rather a product of inconsistent and erratic moderation resulting from the right hand not communicating with the left. I just don't get it -- We're all a bunch of models builders here; Why can't we build something that not only takes minimal effort to maintain, but is ready play when we are?

Nomex undies on,

-Steve

It's the increasingly frequent LONG outages that are really starting to irritate me, I wouldn't mind an hour or 2 here or there, but 6 hours straight is beyond what I would expect.

I have been for well over a year now no longer a subscriber, and this kind of thing convinces me more that I am doing the right thing as 15 GBP is a lot to me (poor person not like the some of the 'minted' people on here). I understand that bandwidth and server space costs money but advertising should cover a portion of that.

I once suggested to Chris that he reduce the membership fee for RE-subscribers but he basically said it was uneconomic. However I think it would make good business sense.

If he reduced the re-joining fee to something like 5 GBP then I would resubcribe at once, personally I think 15 GBP is 3 times too much. Yes I know you pay 10 GBP in general for a year's membership to local clubs to do R/C but you are getting to use club facilities and meet people and it covers the insurance.

This is 'just' a web site (admittedly one of the greatest web sites that has ever appeared anywhere in computer history :( fortunately). Then again thinking about it I also get the TC meeting, words cannot describe how good this is to go to :( (however we pay separately FOR THAT AS WELL!!!)

The straw that broke the camel's back was for me a year or more ago when the big TC crash happened and a fair number of us (including me) lost showroom entries that had taken us a while to do. I have never experienced anything like that on any other site before. Hence me no longer subscribing. The outages don't inspire me to re-subscribe...

This may sound like an unfair rant from a stubborn old hack but it's my honest opinion that since a lot of members ARE PAYING for this service, they should at LEAST get what they PAID FOR, JIM IS VERY CORRECT on this one.

My 2p worth, take it or leave it. All IMHO, with my usual disclaimer!

Best Regards,

Alistair G.

Yesterday I wanted to update pics of my Hilux build and the site was down darn near most of the day. Truly irritating

It would seem that it might be something to do with updates as the last 2 times I have noticed things change on the site, so it could just be site admin.

I personally would have thought if it is an admin issue that just a simple message saying it’s going to be down would be of some help. :(

just a simple message of any kind would help...

:D If the server's down, where would the message be stored?

As of today, more of the mods now have the ability to restart TC if this happens again, so hopefully any future downtime should be minimized

I've been on TC for around 3 years now diffrent alias's Anti Product, Seriesofmoments=life. From what i remember somewhere on this forum Chris told us we would all get an extra day subscription for everytime the server goes down for more than a certain amount of time. I must admit it does become annoying when you try to access tamiyaclub & you get the usual error codes!

Am i right?

Oooooo.... I've got a feeling this one might run and run  .

For those that haven't read terry.sc's link above its worth just quickly having a look, as it does give a bit more insight where things are at RE: the club and Chris in particular.

Yeh, well... I wouldnt put to much faith in that promise.... I just got my TC membership renewal email TODAY, the 11th January 2008. I checked my records, and I found that my subscription was paid / due on the 11th January 2007.... Seems someone missed out on counting a few days were the server had been down over the xmas break...?

Oh, and whilst we are on that point, why are we locked out of our OWN showrooms on the day that our subscription falls due... I mean, would it hurt so send out the reminders a week earlier, or give a weeks "grace" so one can organize payment..

Cheers
