There are already 23 NIBs in the showroom and NO new builts? Why? I guess everyone is busy (holiday season) or taking the extra time for that killer paint job.

I remember when the F350 High Lift came out, I always keep checking the showroom for it. It's almost like a "race" for any high lift owners. Who is the 1st to own one, build one or customize one. But it seems, the fever for the same chassis but different body (Toyota Hilux) died down. Though I don't post comments, but I do admire those paint job, either be radical, different or simple.

Hope to see some in the "near" future  .

Mine is still in the box, haven't even looked at it yet.

Before I tackle it I need to build:

2 Durgas

Frog

F-150

Super Sabre

2nd Hotshot

Clodbuster

....although I think it might get pushed up the queue a bit

All Tamiya TS paint was taken off the shelves in the UK due to a labeling problem, might have something to do with it.

I agree with you , I was starting to enrage me how people were only posting them to show "they were first." I mean sheesh, it's a NEW car. It's not even NEAR being collectible yet.

After rushing through my own backlog, I just completed the running chassis for mine today, only the body is left to complete. It's stock except I omitted the rear steering arm and bellcrank and used the optional caster blocks on the front for stable straight running. Paint to come this week, however I don't promise anything spectacular. After seeing the black F-350 on the Junfac pages, I decided I will paint my Hilux a spartan black to go with the black chrome.

I was wondering about that too, i guess the painting takes real long time and everyone is taking their time.

I got mine over 2 weeks ago and just finished building it I still need to paint the body so another week or two time.

Here's a picture i found at rc4x4 forum by Astroandy

Bingo. Although I grabbed two of them, I still have to complete my latest F350 High Lift (out for paint as I type this), my carbon fiber txt-1 & then I got side tacked with an axial scorpion, then more side tracked with a new built mountaineer project . . . . . . .jeez it never ends !

OR,

maybe everyone is just admiring them when they get them & taking a nice long pause to enjoy the kit ? But I agree, there certainly are not enough built ones to look at right now.

I was wondering the same myself, with the Ford though, there was a big rush to build the thing and see how it performed. Now as we all know how badly it performs out-of-the-box, there's just not the same rush and anyone who's been after a new Toyota body has recently had the chance with the re-release bodyshells.

Those are my thoughts and others I've spoken to realise that it won't give them the same pleasure as running an XC.

I've have many projects on the go at the moment, and the new Hilux isn't one of them.

Mud.

This was highlighted yesterday - my lightly modified XC and a standard (with locked diffs) hi-lift - the hi-lift was getting stuck everywhere! That low skid plate protecting the gearbox is its biggest achillies heel in my opinion - the XC could definitely tackle more stuff.

Still want a Hilux though!

Getting stuck because the diff wasn't locked or because of the skid plate ?

Both diffs were locked - but the low ground clearance with the 1.9s at the skid plate is its definite weakness...

started mine last night - got the gearbox finished and upto the stage when the mfu starts to be added B)

still cant decide on colour, thinking box art ish but in auto metalics - this will be for showing off so keeping the 1.9s as well, the highlift will possibly get 2.2's or them tall 1.9's decisions, decisions!

So, It's was just a matter of time then. No rush gentlemen. For sure the new built will outnumber the NIBs someday. Just look at the F350s member rides. Keep 'em coming.

Hi !

I have the chassie built since well over a week back. Waiting for a MFC to arrive which I won on a E-bay auction from a guy in my own town. Before I made any bids I mailed him and asked him if I could pick it up at his house after the auction. This would be OK , so I put in a monster bid to secure a win , and then I UPS:ed a 4-channel TX from Tower Hobbies , and you know what that costs !!! When I won the auction the guy e-mails me and tell me that he is on visit to his girlfriend on the other side of Sweden ,and he has the MFC with him !!!!! So I try to get him to understand that I need it NOW , but you know , some folks just doesnt got IT . This was last tuesday (4:th) and today is tuesday 11:th and I still doesnt have it !! Man, I got the Hilux-kit from Jason in 5 days from Japan for crying out loud !! :D

Done. one of the proud firsts with a tribute to Ivan Stweart. :

First impressions:

1. stocks wheels are small and silly. lower the body or replace the wheels and tires with 2.2's. It'll stand almost like a Mountaineer with the new shoes.

2. the 6 white radio deck lift spacers may detract from shelf appearance, (visible in the wheel well from the angle above) Next opportunity I have, I will paint them black.

3. Entire body is screwed down, one on the hood, four under the doors and two on the bed. Just like the Mounty and Bruiser the bed is joined to the cab by four screws so the entire shell attaches to the chassis in one piece. Unfortunately as a result seven screws may separate you from easily accessing the battery connector. I recommend placing your ESC as close to the back of the radio deck as possible to alleviate access to the battery retention clip, or if you wire your own ESCs make sure the lead is long enough to fish out of the bottom. Otherwise, if you already own a F-350, it's everything you'd expect. The truck is worthy of the legendary shell it carries.

Why didnt Tamiya fit 2.2's as standard they look so much better.. I never even considered fitting the 1.9s had Junfac beadlocks ordered before I received kit.

Love that colour scheme fits the hilux very well, Im with you on the radio deck stand offs wish I had painted them first too!

Wow...that is a nice paint job! It reminds me of Magnum PI series of the helicpoter. "Life Saver" theme, very nice.

Now I can't decide should I still go for the F350 or the new Hilux and thanks for the heads up and 100% agree with you on the standard tire size. :)
