I don't know if this has been posted before or not, but growing up, I was always a big Punky Brewster fan (1980s show sitcom), In one of the episodes Punky won a NIB Tamiya Frog from a raffle bowl, she built it, and raced it at a local track against a Hornet, Super Champ, FAV, Brat and a Pajero, they featured two races, once right after she builds her Frog and the Final Race when she races and beats the boys, hence the name of the episode "Girls will be Boys".

Having just gotten into the Hobby with a Tamiya Blackfoot, off course, this was my favorite episode ever, just because it had R/Cs in it, when the Frog Re-re came out, it took me back to when I first saw that episode, and made me want to see it again, Got it from Netflix, and all my childhood memories came back, Awesome Episode and Awesome cars, they also show on the pit area, A Hot Shot and A Wild Willy.

CHeck it out, Punky Brewster, Season Two, Episode called "Girls will be boys".

I loved this episode as well, it made me want a pajero.

I still remember the line by the her friend the little boy.

"your car makes mine look like a tin can on wheels"

Still wanted a pajero though.

The best thing is the bad acting while driving, you see the kids jumping around and looking all over the place, it's awesome to watch now, that I've had a couple of races under my belt, you kind of sway with the motion of the car's turn, any sudden movement or taking your eyes off the track could mean disaster in a split second.

I also like the close-up of the cars while on the track, and the commentator calling the cars by their actual names, still till this day it brings a :D to my face.

I watched Punky Brewster as a kid, and sadly never saw this episode (how I missed it I'll never know, as it was always on TV after school). Since hearing about it, this is something I've been dying to see for years. But unfortunately Punky Brewster isn't out on DVD over here. So I've been waiting in case the episode turns up on the internet somewhere.... :D

Not sure it's worth buying the whole season of DVDs from Amazon, just for one episode about Tamiyas. Or maybe it is :( I still watch the old Tamiya commercials on an almost weekly basis. In fact, I have them all on my phone. (wait, perhaps this post belongs in a thread about obsessive Tamiya behaviour...)

cheers,

Sod, it, it's Christmas, I just ordered it on NTSC region 1 DVD, which I can play on my multiregion player. I couldn't find it on PAL...

Looked like being a great vintage "trip out" :( ...you know what I'm like with anything vintage RC :)

Best Wishes,

HAHAHAHA That's AWESOME!

My friends and I talk about this episode at least once a year. It was one of the coolest things I saw on TV back then. In fact it's one of only 3 Punky Brewster episodes I remember clearly. The other ones being "I must increase my bust" and "Cerrie gets locked in the fridge playing hide & seek" episodes (not actual titles).

I remember the episode starts with the girls thinking they won the Tea Cup set from the local contest. But because they thought "Punky" was a boy's name, she won the boy's prize instead. I remember as they unwrapped the prize she was describing how it was "pink, with flowers, and.......MAG WHEELS?!?!?!" It ended up with the boys not letting the girls race, so they disguised themselves and entered the local race which they win, thus showing up the boys. Pretty funny...

The boobie episode was pretty funny too. Henry takes here to the mall to buy her first bra and there's women walking around the store modeling lingerie..... YEAH RIGHT!

OMG, that was painfully stuffed full of condescending righteousness...

Odd stereotype... If we had a female entrant (even back in those days), the last thing we did was to tell her to sod off....

But, good to see the Superchamp was the hardest off the line!.

All very well but it doesn't have the bit where she receives the Frog, new in box, as a prize, at the start, for winning a competition.

Seeing that bit was important (at least to me).

So I bought the whole series 2 box set on DVD

Yes, at the start (more or less, first few minutes actually) of Series 2, Episode 15, as tv.com says. First shown on 1/12/1986 (that's 12th January 1986 to those of us in UK). Which means of course that it was filmed earlier, or probably more accurately video'd (well looks like it was all done in a studio, INCLUDING THE "OUTDOORS SETS" which are actually in a studio if you look closely!) on something like 1" format open reel tape, in composite analogue format, in 525 line / 60 fields/sec interlaced, in NTSC colour encoding.

LOL I know what you mean.

Funnily enough Punky Brewster, although shown in USA and Australia, was NEVER shown on UK television as far as I am aware (and I watched a LOT of kids TV from 1974 to 1993 approx.). So this "Girls Will Be Boys" talked about on TC is the first I ever saw of this show.

I grabbed just Series 2 on DVD box set for a reasonable low price from a seller in Germany / Austria / Switzerland area (can't remember exactly now) using Amazon Marketplace if I remember right. It's "NTSC" (sic). You can see it a lot better on a 42 inch diagonal on a 4:3 image from a video projector :) A 16:9 TV shows it as a square in the middle with huge black bars left and right. Unless you stretch it and then wheels start to become eggs...

why not? i don't remember playing with girls when i was 7 :D they all have cooties, remember?

"Cooties" was an evil ploy, to let spread the charm, uninterrupted and lay the early ground work..... :D

Maybe that's why all I got in highschool was "But, I don't want to spoil our friendship" :D
