I've noticed whilst looking for a Monster Truck that the 'Lunchbox' is listed as 1/12. I was under the impression it was 1/10th. Is it smaller than other Tamiya 'trucks or are they all that scale?

I think the whole scale issue with Tamiya trucks is a bit vague, certainly with some. People are right when they say the TXT-1 is actually 1/8th scale rather than 1/10th, it certainly seems it. The Lunchbox doesn't strike me as particularly smaller scale anyway.

The Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin are both 1/12th scale. Remember the scale depends on the scale of the body, not the chassis. Both those bodies are too small for a 1/10th scale on road chassis.

So there isn't any difference in size between the various Monster Trucks despite 'different' scales? I'm assuming they have the same motors and tire/wheel size etc?

Thanks for the info so far.

The scale of a model is respective to the original tho

I monster truck will be bigger than a on road car so even if the chassis is the same size it will be of a 'larger scale' (well smaller scale but 1 / over something larger)

As proved in another thread, the F350 is almost exactly 1/11th scale, yet the HiLift Hilux is 1/9th.

Tamiya (like most other manufacturers) fudge the scale slightly to make the shell fit a particular chassis.

Take the SRB's for example, a Ford F150 is *much* bigger than a Beetle in real life, yet they share a common chassis.

the sizes between tamiya's monster truck range is very different!

The lunchbox and pumpkin are 1/12 scale and so share a smaller chassis and smaller wheels than the larger 1/10 scale monster trucks.

The clod buster, juggernaut and txt-1 have wheels about twice the size of the lunchboxes, but thats also because they are based on full sized monster trucks - the lunchbox is based on a small sized 1980's monster truck.

The twin detonator/blackfoot series of trucks have 2.2 sized wheels, which are slightly larger in diameter than the lunchboxes wheels. Again these trucks are based on smaller sized real life trucks so are only slightly larger than the lunchbox.

I think Tamiya use quite a bit of 'artistic licence' and designs bodies/ wheels around whatever suits them/ is cost effecient. Just look at the diff cases on a high lift...

The trick is in their own right they look great (so store them in different rooms of your house!)
