Hi all,

now that this forum is up and running, and seems to have much more interest than I might have thought at first ( :) H) I thought I would take advantage of it and ask all of you Nikko fans out there what current models they have.

I am particularly interested in something my almost 3yr old kid can use, so something not too big that she can pick up, and with a small enough transmitter for her little hands. Body style not that important as she basically loves all her Hot Wheels/ Matchbox cars, trucks and whatever.

THanks people.

Most of my Nikko models are vintage ones, so not what you have in mind. I love the old Nikko stuff, as I may have mentioned before :(

These days Nikko has changed with the times, but are still one of the best options for a sub-Tamiya R/C model. They are trying to survive in a slim market below the Tamiya RTR stuff, but above the hordes of cheap chinese junk R/C cars you now find at markets and cheap stores. Maybe those cheap chinese cars aren't so bad - if they break, they don't cost as much to replace. But personally I wouldn't buy them on principle. Nikko are still a real brand, and are still trying to create interesting R/C toys. Their "Tri Jumper" R/C trike was recently nominated for an award - http://www.nikko-rc.com/

By comparison, the chinese cars are just knock offs with no brand, class or ideas, and that no one will remember in years to come.

In the past couple of years I've seen a few 1/10th or 1/14th Nikko pro-class/evolution sports cars in department stores (who don't sell Tamiya anymore, but refuse to sell brandless chinese junk too), for around the $100 mark. Packaged really nicely, with proper sponsor decals, and bearing a sticker on the box saying something like "Nikko - Since 1958", they seem worthy. Not as good as a Tamiya RTR. But they are clearly trying to be the next best option, at $100 (or below). Only other toy brand I would trust is Taiyo, as they're still around and make a nifty looking R/C Quad bike with rider (the only R/C toy worth looking at last time I went to Toys R Us!).

Have a read of these threads, where there is talk of testing the Nikko Pro Class/Evolution models, which are the best ones they offer...
