Schumacher Cougar 2000 resto / mod

I don't know wether anyones going to be too interested as its not tamiya but I thought I would post up the rebuild as it goes along, parts supply isn't as plentiful as tamiya and I'm expecting some long waits for some spares...

As the cougar team I have is going to be even more difficult for parts supply I thought I'd start with this one 1st and see how we go whilst I'm collecting parts for the cougar team...

its been a long long time since I've done this so prepare for some laughs and head scratching LOL..

The intention is to restore and rebuild to to its former glory with some extra tweeks with a view to some occasional light use...

Chapter 1

Take one ebay purchase

several screwdrivers a tamiya box wrench and some long nose pliers...

oh and 20 minutes later

2.jpg

seems to be missing several circlips, has a few choice self tapping screws (why do people do that??) clear undertray is completely toast but at least the lower chassis plate has been kept pretty clean, rear motor (bumper) cover is scratched pretty badly so I'll be sourcing one of those. have already got a bearing set so they'll be getting replaced, couldn't find a small enough allen key to remove the driveshafts, so could only split the gearbox enough to have a peek inside and find a minty clean set of gears, rear wishbones have got play on the hub pivot and are also pretty scratched so new ones need to be sourced..

next up THE DISHWASHER !!!!! and an ebay hunt for a full screw set, none of the posi heads are rounded but if its going to be done right etc.. etc...

whilst waiting for the dishwasher to actually finish washing dishes (huh) went on the hunt for screw bags etc...

ebay comes through again...

now ordered U1538, U1539, U1544, U1548, U1550, U1551 & U1633 which are basically pretty much all I'll need for a complete set of hardware... all NIP speedpacks (nuts 'n' bolts)

total parts spend so far 59.25

wish this **** dishwasher would hurry up LOL

more good luck !

managed to find the rear bumper / motor cover that I was looking for... If the pack is original it should contain the front bumper too....

59.25 + new bumper U1456V

now up to 62

hmmm still need to get rear wishbones / rear wheels / tyres etc..

now gotta wait a couple of days for the postie to turn up with my new screw sets before the rebuild can start...

i have a cougar 2000 i was going to sell complete.

I may want to keep the odd part though so if theres anything you need let me know, will give me a good excuse to break it.

Mines a runner but complete and in good nick.

thanks karmann will let you know, certainly looking for some hop up rear wheels (the flat ones)

anyway... progress report..

the dishwashing went rather well, and I decided to crack on as soon as I could..

the top view of the lower chassis plate isnt in the greatest condition where the esc and receiver have been previously mounted as someone as scratched the old double sided off instead of using something less abrasive.. the underside however is in really good condition so I carried on regardless...

schumacher active camber system (SACS)

DSCF0042.jpg

built up ready to install..

DSCF0043.jpg

quite different from the original, front wishbones and hubs are completely replaced.. as is the front shock tower

DSCF0044.jpg

now fitted !!!! anyone spot the mistake ??? I mounted the tie rods to the steering part rather than the top of the new hub LOL... didnt take long to notice or rectify !!

DSCF0045.jpg

with the front end installed it was time to install the rear wishbones, newly regreased gearbox, and now re-oiled shocks (one of the originals was bone dry !) 'o' rings were replaced.. springs have been changed to the correct "white" inline with the camber settings / shock oil recomended on the SACS install instructions...

anodised gold countersunk screws for the underside (still waiting for some longer ones yet)

and the top deck now with new screws fitted..

been a very enjoyable build so far, I will be replacing all the ball end sockets as soon as they arrive... christmas post !!!

No prob.

For reference, heres mine.

I seem to have misplaced the wing mounts and the battery cover is missing.

I also have some new 'extra low drag' pro shock seals.

Its odd, its probably the best car i own yet it doesnt realy interest me that much.
