since i got a hilux highlift for christmas :D i'm a little in trouble about the radio ?

the most radio's i've seen by far only got pre-set lever for the right stick?!

which radio is best for those 3 speeds?

must it have a neutral pre-set lever for both sticks?

thanks for your help

Merry Christmas Miga . Personally Ive only used the Futaba Attack 4wd T4VWD controller . Both left and right side sticks are spring loaded so they return to neutral on their own . Now a lot of other guys on here will knock it because its an AM radio , but I have yet to ever run into any problems with it . Unless you want to drive your three speed up to a mile away from where your standing ( if you could even see it ) there is nothing wrong with AM radios . Futaba's T4VWD is made specifically for the three speeds anyways ( even comes with a shift gate packed in ) ...

Neutral is not required, however if you opt to purchase the pricey MFC-02 light and sound set, I believe the self-neutralling/spring loaded sticks come in handy

I have 3 of the recommended 4VWD controllers and have had zero issues. They come with a receiver and two Futaba S3004 standard ball bearing servos. If you decide on installing larger aftermarket tires, a high torque servo like the s3010 is recommended but so far I've had no issues with the standard s3004. Also, I feel I need to mention that I've only installed the front bellcrank and omitted the parts for the optional rear steering.

I really like the futaba 4YF http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti00...EFJ4**&P=ML for $10 more than the 4VWD you get 4 3004 ball bearing servo in stead of two 2. you also get nicd's for the transmitter and reciever. The big clincher is that it's FM 75 mhz which is a ground frequency. the only downside is that the throttle stick is racheted. I just took the back plate off the transmitter and switched the spring over from up down part of the steering stick.

As for using the 3004 for steering. It will work and I used one for a while but it's definetly not up to task. The 3010 is a better choice and in my hilux I am using a hitec hs645 with 107oz of torque

Which means it's not legal in Europe :(

I use the Futaba T4EXA - 4 chanel, 40 mHz FM. Has a 4 model memory, servo throw adustment, is supplied with a 700mAh nicad pack, but, 1700mAh NiMH packs are available ( I have both) Also has channel mixing as it can be used for flight models in the UK as well as ground based. It has a "Trainer" mode for flight, and is supplied with four ( I think !) servos, receiver, battery box and all the other usual "gubbin's". Think I paid 109 for my set.

I bought mine for my crawler as it has independent rear steering - and a winch to be fitted shortly, but, I also use it for my 6wd, 3 speed, Mercedes Dakar truck, and for all my TT-01 chassised cars, and I still have a slot left for a fourth model set-up ( my TT-01's are all set up the same ).

It does have a rachet on the throttle side when you buy it, but, I swapped the spring ovr to the right stick, and later locked the left/right movement of the left stick and the up/down movement of the right stick with a screw in each stick. Removable fix ! the two "locked" channels are now on a switch each.

I have the futaba 4YF and the 4EX and both work a treat the 4YF feels more like the sort of unit you can place on a muddy bank while changing the battery pack while the 4EX is more of a show boat, I’m always concerned I might damage it.

But both are good unit and Futaba has a solid name.

Personally, I have the 4EX-FM. Its a nice radio, has 4 model memory and epa etc. The UK model is 40mhz, comes with 3 servos, and ni-cd`s for radio and receiver.

Yes it is shiny shiny, but for once I like that about this radio.
