Even though the LB has no trouble wheelying on its own, a motor with added spec is always a nice hopup. If you want to stick with Tamiya brand, the sport tuned or even super stock motors are always a welcome upgrade.

Also, if you haven't done so already, ball bearings are a "must." one 8x5mm (850) and nine 11x5mm (1150) will do the trick.

One final 'bolt on' upgrade is oil shocks. Page 17 of the assembly manual will describe replacing the springs with #50520 dampers. you will need to buy two sets and make sure not to discard the BS1 brackets from the rod bag (contains driveshafts and springs and wheelie bar)

If you want to shed some weight and add some speed: Parma makes a lightweight replacement body

Finally, you may discover that adding torque will make the rear gearcase want to spin (and knock) when accelerating. This solution will add stability to your rear end and eliminate that knocking. All you need is a spare shock and some something to cut plastic with. If you upgrade the dampers, you can get another bracket here

I don't know about the Duratrax as I've stuck with Novaks when my Tamiyas didn't include a TEU :( However if all you need is basic reverse support, then that's some decent bang for the buck. The motor on the other hand, looks both fun and crazy :)

Welcome!

Click here for a recent thread about modding the lunchbox!

I've got a midnight pumpkin, which has the same chassis as the lunchbox, and i've done just about everything to it to make it faster, stronger and "handle" better :)

The ball bearings and the "3rd shock mod" are the most worthwhile if you want to keep it simple. Oil shocks and chassis bracing is the next step.

Fast motors can be added without changing anything apart from the stock speed controller, but a 19 turn one will make a standard lunchbox pretty wild :P

I've got a 19 turn motor in my truck, its plenty fast enough and has enough torque to pull huge wheelies, even if the truck is already rolling.

have fun :D

Welcome!

I have modded my 'box based on all the great advice here and its a total animal now! It wheelies for ages and actually manages to negotatiate some turns!

Its in bits at the moment awaiting an Mtroniks RV11 ESC and a 17t Venom Fireball (Sorry MMIB I just had to go one better! :D ) :)
