I have finally got round to restoring my 936. The chassis is complete and in reasonable order but the body is in a very sorry state, for which i am sorry to say I am largely responsible!

I bough it new(ish) in 1981 and raced it at school and in a local veg' packing station (the only place with a flat floor) for five years until it disappeared under a forklift and was decapitated :D

Since then it has sat in an attic collecting dust. Its not as bad as it looks being largely complete, the front light lenses have gone and Jaky Ickx has lost his head both of these can be replaced. I have a set of wheels and a dozen tyres.

The main problem I have is Decals. My neighbour has a printing company and we are going to experiment printing on vinyl sheet, so as usual for a first post here is the request:

I need a high res scan of a decal sheet to use as a proof to produce a replica. (so boxed kit owners nows your chance!) I see there are other people on the site in a similar situation if it is successful i should be able to run several sets for distribution.

Look forward to receiving a response,

I think i might have sorted the decals, is any one interested in a set, it will be a week or so before they are ready.

The body is coming on well just a bit more filling on the intake and a top coat then thats it!

That's starting to look really nice.

I will watch this with particular interest.

You see, my first Tamiya was the 936, way back in '79, hence my avatar & it therefore holds more than a little nostalgia value for me.

I know where there is a NIB example & when I can afford it I will recreate that magical Xmas morning with the enormous box waiting for me under the tree.

This is my first car, it cost 12 in '81 and came with a lambo body and loads of bits most of which i used and wore out. I still have the box but although its a bit battered.

Hopefully i'll finish the body this weekend. I hovered up a few 936 bits from ebay to restore the chassis - so thats next, and the easy bit!

Stunning looking car makes the bat mobile look conservative.

I'll be interested to see how those decals turn out - I need some for mine.

Making progress with the decals, the machine that prints the decals is an ink jet printer that prints on to a clear vinyl film. The print is slightly transparent but very sharp better than the stuff you can buy on ebay.

The bonus is you can mask simliar to photo shop and it cuts the mask just off leaving the just decals on the backing.
