4x4 Scaler Build. All The Blood, Sweat & Tears!

Recommended Posts

The only problem with flat black is the fact It can mark up so easy and leave 'Shiney' lines on it. (If that makes sense?!) like if you run a fingernail over it, and then it'll leave a trail behind... Do you have any spare colours left? (and NOT pink!)

diddly squat,

1/4 of a can of jasmine yellow, some clear lacquer, and a big tub of magnolia!

bought some Toyota White 040 for yours nice and bright white.

suppose i could laquer the matt black.

Or i could go and get something else.

Orange faded with a matt black wing? to look like you crashed it.

why does it have to be ready by the 14th?

does he not want it white and orange?

Not forgottrn about you dready, got it packed up but then got carried away and before i knew it it was after lunch at the po was shut, sorry!

Any tips on the windows? Ive built it up with styrene and filler, and going to try 'cutting' in the window rubbers tomorow - or is there an easier way?

The Chevy is going to be white. and it is i've bought the paint!

He wants a BigBear Painting too!

Cant make his mind up,

As for windows the trick is not to cut down the seam line on the doors.

It's easier to stick it back together. It's hard to get a good sharp line where the door/window was.

But easy to sand something flat.

Hope that makes sense.

if not start your thread and i can have a look.

I'm no expert but i might be able to point you in the right direction.

Personally i dont like filler, i tend to fill the holes/gaps with spare melted styrene. Using a soldering iron

It ruins the tip but i find it to be stronger than glue and filler.

There's hardly any filler in this so far, cant put loads on it he'll only knock it out!!!!

If you have enought white that'll be fine... Or flat black laquered will be fine as long as that works (anyone ever tried that?) There's no real deadline, but I fancied a decent Valentines present instead of the usual card :)

I have just stolen (I did ask the manager and he said it was fine!) 2 rubber place matts. I'm gonna send them to Dready as I think they would make perfect load liners for the bed, Would take a pic but they came out funny with my shoddy camera! So last night was awesome, perfect Chinese and some bits for my trucks!

Loving this project, keep up the good work guys! Can't wait to see it finished.

But if it were me, I'd make it a GMC-style grille instead of a Chevy, just because I've never seen one done that way:

Right Pics as promised and a little brief description if you can be bothered to read it

These axles hace two sets of mounting holes so i drill through so that i could mount hi-lift spacer thing's straight on top.

RY2.jpg

Mounted onto the leafs

RY1.jpg

Front done with Hi-lift shocks and three leaves.

RY3.jpg

Rear Done same shocks

RY4.jpg

Whole thing getting there.

RY5.jpg

Transmission mounted, this can be moved forwards and backwards if need be.

RY6.jpg

Borrowed some wheels as Ryan seems to have overlooked this non important item!

RY7.jpg

Chassis too long will have to cut the Body at the rear but the bumper will cover.

RY8.jpg

Front's not going to be that easy but i reckon its do-able

RY9.jpg

Cut here and build the front guard around it.

RY10.jpg

And cut this section out of the rear.

RY11.jpg

Here you can see what i mean?

RY12.jpg

And here.

RY13.jpg

And here!

RY14.jpg

will have to grind a touch of the front rails!

RY15.jpg

But no grinding at the rear.

RY16.jpg

Wheelbase is just about right.

RY17.jpg

That's me done for now, cos my better half now has the hump!

See Ya! Maybee if i'm still alive tomorrow................................................................................................R.I.P

there smaller than rock stompers.

What Stompers and Slingers both in 1.9?

Cool whichever set you don't like i know a bloke who needs some new Boots :-)

The slingers are a little larger than standard hi-lift and the Stompers are bigger still.

As I have spent this months paycheque (It's only the 5th!! ;) ) then I have to wait until I get paid from some bits I sold on ebay sunday night. I don't understand some people. If i bid in the last few minutes of an auction why no just wait a minute or so then pay for it...?

Still, I can wait.

I took some photos for you. Here are the tires in order (from Left to Right):

1.9 High Lift Tire

1.9 RC4WD Mud Slinger

1.9 RC4WD Rock Crusher

2.2 Standard Tamiya Twin Detonator Tire

2.2 RC4WD Rock Crusher - It's huge !

Also, RC4WD now has the brand new Crazy Krawler.

I have Moabs and was a little dissapointed with the tyre. The inside bead is not very accurate and I found it a right pain to fit beadlocks... (but that might have been me being a pleb!)

Right bit of progress as we have now decided it will be rolling on 1.9's with tyres slightly bigger than Hi-lift ones.

I didn't want to cut Ryans new chassis (well i did want to attack it with the grinder but he wouldn't let me :-( )

So there was a bit of head scratching on this one.

Decided to cut small sections out of the front and rear panel and lower the body on to the chassis rails.

Pictures are pretty self explanitary, will answer any queries with pleasure.

ry67.jpg

ry68.jpg

ry69.jpg

ry70.jpg

Also made a front brush guard to incorporate the chassis rails sticking out. (opinions please)

it means i haven't touched the chassis at all with the grinder.

Bed next possibly tomorrow.

Bye :-)
