I wonder how many Avante versions exist? We have the Avante and the Avante 2001 but were both kits available with or without motor? The Avante was available with and without the Technigold. Were there any more versions out? And what about the Egress also with and without motor?

For the original Avante series, there was the following cars:

Avante w/ technigold

Avante w/o motor

Vanquish w/ johnson 540

Egress w/o motor

Avante 2001 w/ Sport Tuned

The original Avante did have a couple design variations throughout it's production run. It's hard to find a lot of details, but here is the best I've come across. The site is in Japanese, and I've run it through the Google translator for you (hopefully it works). Here's the link:

PS: I do think the color variation between the two styles of front uprights is totally bogus. I personally own both styles of uprights, and the earlier one is the exact same mottled silver color as the later...

As far as I can tell the original Avante had the flimsy thin uprights, and the heavier "flanged" ones were issued with the A 2001 and Egress. All three of my original Avantes have the thin ones, and my Egress and Avante 2001 have the heavier ones. This is backed up by the pics in the manuals. Interestingly enough I have a spare set of uprights still in their package, the uprights are the heavy flanged ones, but the diagram on the packaging shows the lighter one.

Yes and no! I have examples of both the dull and the silver uprights. They are both the original Avante - thin type. I don't know if the heavy flanged ones came in the silver form - I only have dull ones. You can also see them at the above link.

If I remember correctly the Avante front uprights went through seven different variants, as run by Tamiyas race team at the time so not all of them production items. Extra webbing and material changes to try and find an upright that wouldn't fall apart at the first sign of a knock. Unfortunately for Tamiya by the time they got this problem fixed we'd all given up trying to keep the Avante running on the track and moved on to Kyosho and Schumacher.

My original Avante came with the heavier uprights. My Avante is a late version with two 4mm nuts on each upper control arm (if it matters). I have since moved the heavier uprights to my Vanquish EVO project, and replaced them with dull versions of the lighter/weaker version. I cannot particularly remember what's pictured in my manual...
