There are plans and kits available. Pop on over to your favorite search engine and have a go. Be aware making your own shells is not trivial. Everything effects the outcome from the quality of the lexan to how nice the form is to how humid the air is.....

To be honest there is so much to making nice vacuum formed parts that there is not enough space here to go into more detail.

Again, a web search is your friend.

i used a vacum forming machine at work. it is easy, it all depends on the detail of the shell and the material you use. have a word with the supplier and tey will point you in the best direction of material and detail of the shell you are trying to make

sorry, should have said, i've used one at secondry school about 10 years ago with some succes using plaster cast into an old tamiya celica gt4 shell[8D], unfortunately the bed was too small to make it in one piece so they looked like 'cut n shut' celicas with join around the middle[:I] but detail was no prob, but i still can't find a supplier, any DT teachers out there?[?]

If you are looking to buy one start here http://www.crclarke.co.uk The biggest problem for vac forming polycarbonate is drying it out first, you need an oven big enough to fit your sheets of polycarbonate in. If you don't dry it out first the polycarbonate will bubble when you try forming it.
