Rc Crawler Tlt Build By A Newby

Recommended Posts

is permanent 4 wheel steering a good idae?

what you mean turn servo horn over? please explain that, im trying to draw pics to make myself understand

I don't like permanent 4ws but that's just me.

If your going for a good crawler you want as many options as you can.

And if you can control both sets of wheels independently you will have a much more controllable machine.

As for the servo horn done you a quick pic. Hope it makes sense

UPDATE: Fitted 50808 Shafts last night, will have to drill a hole through them to fit wheel correctly and increase wheel base. Pics to follow (sorry new phone, dnt have data cable yet).

Might not have to run a dual servo setup in any case, realized with the blackfoot wheel axles that the hub (upright) is hitting the axle casing, thus im going to sand a bit off the wheel hub arm to increase steering some more.

Got washers which will become the spacer to the wheel hex and add to the centre of gravity.

Rebuilt the gearbox and fitted the thrust bearing, **** now the gearbox runs/turns better. not that ive run it with power.......

Thanx to BigMike from RcCrawler for allowing me to post the awesome pics he helped me with in another post. Ill post them here for my regular viewers.

Gearbox tensioner mount can be used with stock belt or HPI Rs4 Rear Belt

@Dready: btw a 4 channel radio like a Esky one for heli's. How will the digg and dual steering be activated? I know on my Spektrum I used to have to press a button but on heli radios the other channels are actual controls? how does this work if I may ask? BTW what is the brand of the 4ch radio you got on Ebay? and have you got a link by any chance for a DIGG tutorial on rccrawler.

You will be able to use a Four Channel for all that.

1ch Left Stick, up/down Speed Controller

2ch Left Stick, Left and Right front Steering

3ch Right Stick, up/down Front Digg

4ch Right Stick, Left and Right Rear Steering

I think my 4ch is Hitec will have a look later, cant remember off the top of my head.

Here's one there's lots in here

Scorcher uj's you should find pretty easily. they were on loads of different cars

Try emailing

Incredible_serious (austrailia)

Bormac (austrailia)

Jeroen206 (belgium)

now just need to find the UJ's, if anyone can help please.

Going to buy a smaller drillbit today to drill pin holes in 50808 Wheel Axles shafts to widen wheelbase correctly and fit washers/weights as spacers.

Got extra steering angle with a litle mod. Wil fix tyre issues with rod when new rims and tyres arive. Dont think il have hasles as mashers arent the tallest tyres.

Also as per US rules might instal a digg as im not alowd to have fourwheel steering.

Made tensioner for belt, easy but the dremel worked hard on getting the holes straight.

Locked difs using fourth gear method. Wil fit bearings and new 100mm dampers when i get money.

Stil thinking if il narrow the new beadlocks, mmmm....

New body, thank god im getting as a bday gift. Hpi land rover defender. Il realy take my time with that.

Any1 got tips on getting like a metalic slate gray?

Photos as promised:

weights added as bracing for the bottom of the axles and to add in lower CG.

Tensioner Position, sorry dont have any inside pics. forgot to take :/

18022008003.jpg

How i shortened the shafts, will reinforce and straighten them using alu rod on the inside.

18022008002.jpg

Steering angle cheat. Cut some of the arm away because it was hitting against the C HUB

for the dampers ill get some more threaded 4-40 rod and one of the stock alu tubes to stiffen the chassis and bolt them on the outside with a nut and then add the damper and then another nut to fasten that.

UPDATE:

*The car is in pieces as im getting the holes drilled in the wheel axles

*Wainting on my steel hollowed rod to reinforce my 4links which i had to shorten. might need to do more on that...

*PLanning to buy the parts on ebay which i need to make sliders... but money is running real low and my work contract ends next month, so ill havta see what i can do as cheap as possible. If someone can help me with used traxxas sliders etc. please let me know. PayPal is at a ready.

*Did some dogbones (102mm) from pin to pin, but they are too long and thus cant be used as driveshafts. Anyone need them, please contact me. $2 plus shipping.

*Awaiting maybe my tracer chassis...

*I have now become a distributer for Axiom motors in South Africa and talks to import and finance will be done this weekend with my business partner (who will supply all the money...lol)

*Got new tower pro 945? servo... thinking of using this over my Bluebird although i think the bluebird is stronger...

*Tires and rims should be here this week or next.

sorry for the delay

been waiting for favours to come in and shafts to be drilled.

Found a way to make my sliders though (thanx RYAN!)

so went and bought

TRAXXAS PARTS:

4628x

1951

waiting for part 5453 from a ebay retailer as SouthAfrica didnt have stock.

started assembling it this weekend.

Body is arriving next week, please somone tell me how ill fit it?

Thinking of the colour ill be using rattle cans. So im thinking of a light coat of transparent silver followed by a gunmetal to create a metallic slate colour.
