martinjpayne 273 Posted August 10, 2021 @wtcc5 wonder if it would be possible to modify your CAD drawing and design a bumper mount to fit readily available TT-02 foam bumpers?
redzone 212 Posted August 11, 2021 LOL this was like one of my first if not the first threads on this forum!! 2021 and yes I still have LOADS of TA02's, I actually have a NIB Clarion R33 GTR LM TA02W i'm selling lol I also have a TA02 Castrol Celica rally runner/shelfer (with new body and wheels), my original TA02SW Taisan Porsche I bought new in 96, with a HPI chassis etc, a couple of TA02W Castrol Supras, one with carbon chassis and Cross long suspension arms and unis, other one with FRP and aftermarket bits. TA02 Calsonic GTR upgraded special, and another couple of Group A TA02 GTR's. Plus a rere TA02SW 911 GT2 NIB. And there's probably others i've forgotten! I have amassed quite a collection of 3rd party hopups for these cars, I actually find them more interesting than the Tamiya ones! I've also experimented with M chassis rear uprights with altered toe in, and longer upper arms etc. Plus I have pretty much every Tamiya hop up. Yep still a nutter! Here's a pic of my Castrol Supra shelfer, and some pics of the real one, and the Clarion R33.

djmcnz 754 Posted August 12, 2021 Other than my TRF511 (🥰) the TA02 is my favourite chassis of all time (and the DF01 variant because that's where I started). I have a Taisan Starcard shelfer with pretty much every period Hop-Up available that I'm in love with. I also have a 40th Anniversary that I'm really really tempted to build and will get a 45th as well. There's a TA02 project on my horizon but I'm not sure what it will be, I have a NIB Special Racing Chassis, NIB FRP Chassis Set, NIP Carbon Chassis Plates, NIP Pink Touring Car Dampers, all period. I realise that the value of these has been diluted since the re-re's but that's not too much of a concern, I'll get all of the enjoyment out of unpacking and building them... just need to decide exactly what I want to do.
wtcc5 4899 Posted August 12, 2021 I put the bumper design on Shapeways (if anybody is interested) https://www.shapeways.com/product/8HQRS4CSR/tamiya-ta02-bumper-like-tamiya-53145?optionId=224197388&li=shops

DarkSonic 212 Posted August 19, 2021 Had some time today and thought about the chassis on the TA02. As I have a lot of Top Force parts left, I will convert the plastic tub to a TF style chassis. Now heres the point. I have to reengineer my original TF design anyways and mill the chassis plates, so why not use a complete new design. What do you think? Thought about a slim one for a shorty lipo or a central mount lipo. It would also be possible to set the battery on the right side and the radio + motor on the left.

Tizer 606 Posted August 23, 2021 I absolutely love the TA01 and TA02. They are my favorite chassis ever because of the versatility. Here's some (older) pictures of my cool TA01 and TA02's. By now most of them have received some extra upgrades. The blue one is actually one of my runners now with a 17.5t brushless
ThunderDragonCy 7885 Posted August 24, 2021 I designed some adapters today for 3D printing to allow the fitment of the standard TA02 / FF01 top deck to the tub chassis in place of the MSC tray. This should give me access from above to put shorty lipos in the tub battery tray, plus imorove the stiffness of the plasticchassus without going to the expense of the full FRP/Carbon conversion. If anyone wants some i need to bump up my minimum orderfor 3d printing so let me know if you are interested. The parts would be £7 plus postage. I have a narrow top deck drawn out too which i plan to get from fibre lyte. Based on their last job for me this will be about £15/20 plus postage in 2mm carbon. DM me to order. Ideally would like to order next tuesday 31st august. Cheers!
TurboRSR 356 Posted August 31, 2021 My TA02SW (47362 - Porsche 934 Turbo RSR "Black Edition"). Built with 230mm wheelbase carbonfiber chassis set, TRF fluorine coated dampers, high torque servo saver, one-piece ball thrust bearing, lightweight king pins, short aluminium servo stays, pin type wheel adapters and hard joint cups for gear diff + the hop ups that already is included in this kit. I had planned to use a HW Quicrun 3650 G2 17.5T and 10BL120 combo, but will change to a Super Stock RZ instead. ESC will be a MST XB60, same as the HW 1060, just with less colors. Hopefully I can get hold of a high speed gear set now that it's getting re-released.

martinjpayne 273 Posted September 2, 2021 @Tizer Thanks, I wouldn't mind seeing that... I'm looking for something for a rally chassis: an angled skid plate with a protruding foam bumper. Also, nice collection... what wheels are on the pink and blue TA02's?

ThunderDragonCy 7885 Posted September 29, 2021 Got the long screws I have been waiting for so finally got to try and install this part I designed - a mounting bracket for a TT02 foam bumper: I tried designing a part to replace the buggy bumper, but it was ending up very large and expensive, so I came up with this h frame item. It has hexes on the bottom of the legs which fit the corresponding recess in the TA02 bumper, and those are M3x45 screws. This is the 53mm deep foam bumper, trimmed a little to clear the shocks (just!). Top plate goes on and held down with M3 nyloc nuts. The idea was to have the foam touch the gearcase so that some of the loads are braced by the chassis, not just having the foam flapping about on the kit bumper. From the front: And from the underside with my Spec6 shell on.
wtcc5 4899 Posted December 12, 2021 I got a used golden damper set from @Quincy a while ago and took the time today to clean and rebuild them: Before I had the grey ones with threaded body on this chassis, but will need them for another project. The gold always fits ...and lets hide them
wtcc5 4899 Posted December 14, 2021 While shopping other parts online, I stumbled over the TA02 carbon plate topdeck. It will suit my hop-up chassis very well as replacement for the actual topdeck and so I bought one. In direct comparison you can see the Yeah Racing topdeck has a longer front cut out (the rear hole was added by me) and the surface finish is better. Somehow the clear coat of Tamiyas topdeck is not as smooth. The outline is exactly the same. I think to remember that the original old carbon topdeck had a different outline… Installed: It has not the same charm the vintage one has, but still looks nicer than the Yeah Racing product, with its print. wtcc5 4899 Posted March 8, 2022 One big german rc online shop celebrated its 15th anniversary two weeks ago and made some very good offers. One of them was the Calibra rere for 99€. I couldn’t resist and also decided to make it a modern rere tuning version: I hope to find time for the build soon

Over 40,000 rpm @ 8 v and no weird brushes!!
Alexei 547 Posted October 22, 2022 of the aluminium motor mount upgrades, is there a better one, or something to take notice of? Tamiya GPM Yeah Racing
Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted October 23, 2022 Don‘t use the GPM one in a DF01 (Manta Ray, Top Force,…) at a dirt track. Through the cooling fins gravel and dust comes easily to the pinion and into the gearbox...not recommended.
Aerobert 2149 Posted October 23, 2022 Can't say anything to the Tamiya motor mount, but I can't recommend the GPM one. It's not of good quality. The 3Racing one has, in my eyes, the big advantage to be a one piece motor mount. While Tamiya and GPM need 6 screws just to attach the motor to the chassis you only need 4 with the 3racing one.
