Looks very interesting. I also like the fact that the price of axles for other projects will hopefully decrease with more of them on the market.

Does anyone have any dimensions such as width and wheelbase for it yet?

Cheers

Ryck

There's rumours that Tamiya will be selling the axles complete. If true it's a lot easier than having to buy all the separate parts for TLT axles, which makes it easier (and quite often cheaper) to buy a TLT kit and sell on the left overs. It should make the axles cheaper as well.

These axles look so much better than TLT ones. Stronger, braced and looks like they are or can be clocked for better driveshaft angles, looks like Tamiya has just killed the market for the remaining TLT kits

Well, for the mean time at least, that means that the TLT axles will start to get cheaper ! Good for me as I am looking for some more for another project ! B) FJ looks cool - I could well be tempted !

I dig it. It will slot right into my collection between the Brat and my monster trucks. Even though it has a lexan body, they got it right by adding the flimsy exterior mirror detail. At least that will give me something to pay $200 for 20 years from now on some online auction. Driver detail would have been nice too, but that is easily fixed.

I have never been into crawling, i started to walk in early age :D:lol::lol:

So this mite do me good!!!

BUT is it me or are the rear wheels little of center?

Looks like they are a little to far back...

It looks good, but I think the body is a little to short for the chassie...

Thats what I think!

the wheelbase is adjustable by a few mm so you could correct it by where the lower links mount

I must admit that i find the idea of Tamiya making a crawler kit genius.I too have been drawn to a crawler model purely as they seem to be great fun to drive and can be used anywhere due to there speed.however i have never been fully tempted to buy one as its been a case of "buy bits and build" or purchase a kit with true ability but looks like NASA developed it for a Mars landing!I like the idea that the fj40 has the uniqueness that has made certain Tamiya models classics.the springs on there own are marvelous looking and i reckon this model is a perfect blend of scale and ability.im no crawler specialist but i think the blend is just right and in keeping with Tamiya's history.Sure it might not have 100% scale but its a tricky catagorey after all its a model of a 4x4 thats been adapted to conquer extreme/impossible off road conditions and true scale wouldnt give the ground clearance or articulation needed. And in true Tamiya tradition,i would put money on the fact that it will handle to a preset satisfactory level without the need(and possibly the ability) to have to tune it for max performance in one condition, therefore allowing more "fun time" rather than "Formula One style set up precision" to ensure the user has every ounce of performance. The fj40 looks like it has all the trademark qualities, its got the looks, the character and the quality and some unique features to ensure it complies with the Tamiya code. And this code has brought us some truly great R/C models.Just think how difficult it must be to get the end product to meet the code every time! sure there has been some misses, but there has been some truly fantastic hits too! :D

cheers cinamon! i dont mean to undermine the true ability crawler models out there. There are some awesome specced machines available.I just reckon Tamiya have made a model that will tease the cash out of a "buggy" buyers wallet.I think it might be like the crawler equiv of say the Wild One...sure it is no RC10 but it is a cool model to use and own.I think thats the difference between Tamiya and other makes. Each brand has their "thing".example Asssociated,Losi, etc have the all out competition angle.I think Tamiya's angle is "enjoy building it,enjoy the quality, enjoy owning it".Sure there is TRF and HOPUP options avail to address some avenues of the competition side of the market, but i think the main objective is to produce a model that is fun to own,and when built to the owners best ability,a model that is cherishable.

I also think it was a great move to return to the box art boxes. How many of us on tamiyaclub have memories about how cool and special it was when presented with your first Tamiya in its glorious box?I genuinly think the box added an element of quality and an indication of a brand that went the extra mile to make its product special.

listen to me...eh! im going on like its life or death! sorry bout that!just think of the cr01 type as decribed above and you wouldnt be disappointed at spending your hard earned on it. :D

p.s thanks to the mod for resolving my post error.

WOAH! I love it, I am truly excited! Looking back in 10 years time this will end up being one of those benchmark Tamiya kits, I am looking forward seeing what other body styles they bring out.

I wonder if this is why Toyota pulled the licensing rights for the FJ40 from Proline a couple of years back, coz this was coming!

...... and nothing like the RTR Cayenne which looks like it just rolled out of toys r us.

Are you talking about the Cayenne S Transsyberia 2007, the black and orange one? I could only find the kit version on TamiyaUSA. I agree somewhat that it does look a little toy-ish, but I think it is more to do with the colour scheme, I think a different set of wheels, or at least a different color would make it look 100 times better (maybe gold or silver, like the WRX)

The almost transparent looking orange wheels with silver wheel nuts definately make it look a bit Nikko ....
