On a related subject, can anybody explain why HPI advertises some of their pinions as follows: 64-pitch (0.4m). I know 64-pitch are not exactly the same as 0.4m, so what's the deal?

The pitch so fine that.4 and 64 will work together.

yeah they'll work together 'ok' but not perfect, better if its large spur & small pinion

if using a large pinion and small spur... they get a bit growly

Are you reffering to the size of the teeth? IE: it's better to have the larger teeth on the spur and the smaller teeth on the pinion...

what he means is you'd better use a small pinion with a large spur - ie 18 teeth pinion and 100 spur if you want (it's just an example) - to minimize the impact of the pitch mismatch.
