Hello callum40, your post is a little confusing :) are you asking about airshocks or oil shocks....

Airshocks are good for large furniture removal vans and thats about it :) . Oil shock on the other hand are very good for a number of RC applications including racing/bashing touring cars and racing/bashing off road cars.

You should add your request to buy shocks to the trades forum or post an add in the wants section of the home page and by the way people will want to know what car you are after shocks for as well.

Good Luck

Maybe they are confusing friction shocks as air shocks? If so then go with a good set of oil shocks :-)

Maybe he is talking about Air shocks like on the Mugen Bulldog,Just a idea.

I was somehow thinking along the lines of hydraulics for your RC, you know "pimp my ride" style B)

It's the medicine I swear :)

:o Go for it, would love to see the end result, maybe get a separate radio channel to control each corner of the car :(

While we're on topic, why hasn't someone developed an air shock for r/c applications? Air shocks are more adjustable than oil shocks; rather than having to change the spring weight, all you would have to do is change the air pressure. Mountain bikes have used them for a while (I'll be getting some for my '92 Trek in the coming weeks, woo hoo!), and they have all but replaced coil spring shocks. Why haven't coil shocks been replaced by air shocks in r/c?

The Mugen Bulldog is the only car I'm aware of that that ever had "air" shocks fitted as standard, (and I'm quite sure these still had a spring inside them) and the shocks on it were like 25mm (1 inch) round... I can only assume that they had to make them this big to get them to work, and in turn, this would make it hard to fit them to many cars..

Callum40,

Assuming that your cars is currently fitted with friction dampers, then YES, Oil shocks would be better.. There are many styles, from the Tamiya plastic CVA shocks, upto the TRF range.. There are also quite a few companies selling aftermarket shocks, and many of these seem to be good value, as they often come with extra springs etc...

Have a look at eBay, as there are often many "Hong Kong" based sellers listing these items, or have a look at Stella Models site (or any of the club sponsors sites) and see what they have on offer..

Cheers.
