Hi guys, I thought I'd just put a little note one here fishing for your support

B)

For quite a few years now I have tried to give up smoking. I tried everything from patches to Inhalers, hypnotherapy etc, everything. You name it, I tried it. I attended Alan Carrs' clinic a few weeks ago and his "Easyway" method worked for about 2 days. Not very sucsessful eh? So I went to the follow up session on Wednesday, I'm glad to repost I feel alot better. Yes I still think about Ciggies, but now I recon I can give it a good go.

Looking at the stark reality, If you smoke 20 or more a day (I was on about 30) you have a 1 in 2 chance of dying as a direct result of your habit. Now as a smoker I was always of the mindset "that'll never happen to me".

That's pretty good odds it will...

Also I spent nearly 200 a month on the things. (Couple of months time I may treat myself to a NIB Bruiser :P)

Please, please post your thoughts or comments here, as when I'm having a low point I wanna just give it a read, as I want to be a non-smoker!

Good for you B)

Wish i could crack it.

Have you had a pint yet? they say that the two go together

Might be good to stay clear of the local for a couple of weeks.

So you would recommend the Alan Carr Clinic then?

Deffinately put the money away you'd have a wicked bruiser in a month.

Alan Carr have a 90% sucsess rate (and the only people to offer money back guarantee) The first session made sense but didn't work well for me. You then have the option of 2 back-ups, which they recon most people don't need. out of the 20 people on my course there were 2 people in the backup (me and one other!)

I'm gonna go for a beer tonight. I wanna tackle it head on, rather than hide at home!

Saying that is did build a whole Junfac TLT last night cos I wanted to keep my hands busy!

Stick at it fella, we're all rooting for you.

I smoked for 17yrs, quit several times for periods ranging from 4 days to 18 months.

I was always sceptical of patches, inhalers etc so I never went for that kinda thing.

One day I just decided to stop, weird though, I finished the 300 duty free's I had left, then just quit.

No messing after that, no "just one then stop", nada, I just gave it up.

The missus says I was terrible to live with for about 6 weeks, then I began to settle again.

I had some of the gum in that time, it eased the craving when it was worst, but it tasted so awful you can't chew it for long B) .

I can truthfully say, I have not touched a cigarette for over 7 years now.

For me, the key to it was being honest with myself that it was time to quit.

Go on my son !!!!!!! You can do it :P

Was never really a big smoker so didn't find it hard to give up - but good luck!

At least you wont smell now.... B)

LOL! Keep it up, you will add years to your life enjoying your Tamiyas without that addiction.

It does get easier. The first week is horrible, but after that the nicotine is out of your system and then it's just a psychological thing. The most important thing I found when I quit four years ago was to stay away from smokers. Out of sight, out of mind.

The best part is being able to smell and taste food again. It's a subtle thing, but definitely a plus. Good luck!

Yes that's one thing I did notice most importantly my self..

As a way to occupy the whole "Hand to mouth" thing that you will most likely find your self habitually doing..

I used to buy packets of "Chupa Chups" lolly-pops.

And have one every time I would normally have a smoke.

(In the car on the way to work, at morning tea, lunch, afternoon smoke break Ect Ect)

So 30 Chupa Chups a day might be a little excessive.

But the Lolly pop lasts longer than a smoke (and are cheaper) so you can get away with one an hour.

what about trying knitting to keep your hands busy - i could do with a new hat

Lol and some nice little gloves and an xmas jumper, U really are getting old before your time :L

on a scientific note it will be hardest for the first few days as the body has to adapt to not having nicotine. Afterwards it just that matter of habit so you will need to find ways to occupy that time where u would go for a fag break you could perhaps as mentioned have a lolly pop. wizz an rc car rnd the car park or just do something to take that time up and not let yourself fall back.

Best Wishes

 Good luck mate, I gave up when I joined the army at 17 and couldn't keep up with all the running! I don't suggest you try that but maybe a new build might ease things a bit... Smoke tyres not fags!

Mind set is the most important thing. Telling everyone you know is a great start and when someone offers you a gasper say it and believe it

"No thanks I don't smoke." rather than "No thanks I have just given up." because now you are a non smoker!

Lady nicotine is a female dog to shake off but with a bit of effort on your part you can send her packing and get a sexier model to move in!

Another valid point is think of all the Tax you are depriving the Government of!

Easy! :P

Maybe you should keep that same 20 note forever on your person and caress it whenever you get the urge to smoke, money notes kind of have a slithery feel when you fold them and rub them against themselves. Also, write the words "HEALTH AND WEALTH, IM WORTHY OF BOTH" on the note too, that definitley helps to condition the mind which is the biggest part of the battle. Your mind is the weakest point, it will tell you that you need to smoke, it will tell you "go on, just one wont hurt", it will try and trick you everyday. You must keep busy and never sit around pondering thoughts, most of all you must recondition it to think "I dont need to smoke, I'm strong as the next person".

For me it took about a year, this was my method.

1) I Started smoking roll ups as theyre not as chemically enharnced as pre-rolled. This is one of the biggest factors the indusrty does not divulge, filters have over 24 chemical compounds in them, each compound contains tens if not hundreds of chemicals. The nicotine picks theses up on the way as it passes through the filter, these increase the affect of smoke as it enters the bloodstream, in other words the hit is stronger. Just because roll-ups dont have a filter doesnt make them any stronger, if anything you tend not to suck as hard as you get the smoke easier. You should learn to smoke the roll-ups as you would the pre-rolled.

2) Once your body has got over the withdrawal symptons of the chemicals in pre-rolled ciggies and you are smoking roll-ups as normal you can then start to cut down on the roll-ups.

3) Nows the time for the 10 note in pocket with the words "HEALTH AND WEALTH, IM WORTHY OF BOTH" written on it. Caress, fold and read it when needed.

4) Its also worth noting that the later you can leave it in the day before you have your first one will help. I started with a limit of 10 a day for about a month, then it was 9 a day for a month... eventually I was on 2 a day for a month. Then I was on 1 a day before bed everynight, this was for about 3 months. In this period I just kept thinking "I dont need to smoke, I'm much stronger than that, I'm a whole complete person without it". Eventually you can forget that last roll-up with out any withdrawal symtons as your nearly clear anyway.

The last thing I would suggest too (this will sound weird but trust me) is dont talk about it, talking about it confirms its dominance in your life. Your the dominant one not smoking, also you need to aproach this casually not put huge emphasis on it, other wise that itself will stress you and make it harder. Talking about it makes you think more about it but the idea is to condition the mind not to think about smoking. How many times in life have we said how great something we are doing is and then it all goes wrong, never say things like "I'm doing really well, have only smoked one today", I guarenntee this adds to the pressure because you dont want to let others down who might be rooting for you. Its not about them its all about you and no one else! You also need to focus on better and positive things like going out for a walk and appreciating the simple things in life like the beauty of nature.

I havent smoked for about 2 years, I didnt make a note about the date I last smoked a ciggie as its not important, less emphasis smoking has the better!

Hope this helps, I would say good luck but to be honest luck has absolutley nothing to do with it, it is you and only you who has anything to do with it. Your responsable and you have the power in your mind! :P

Sorry... almost forgot one importent thing, once youve entered the cutting down period it is importent to treat yourself every now and then to something nice. I guess a Tamiya component of some kind

Thanks again guys. I must confess, I gave in today. I went out for a bash and smok ed.

2 things struck me;

1: I was enjoying myself before I had that fag

2: It tastes awful

I'm sorta glad I did it as I was starting to pine for them. It has alot to do with mental resolve, and not letting your mind over-rule your common sense.
