I am considering on buying a Blackfoot Extreme and am concerned that it will not be able to handle a high torch brushless motor.

Many years ago when I had the original Blackfoot I ran into problems with stripping out the spur gear. Is this still the case with the Extreme? Can the BF Extreme really handle the power?

I am interested in building a kit, so if it turns out that the BFE can't handle the power then which truck would you recommend.

Any information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Other than adding bearings to the Blackfoot Extreme's gearbox, there really isn't anything else you need to to do. Unlike the original Blackfoot, the Extreme has a very strong gearbox. You might have issues with dogbones and such at those power levels, but there are upgrades in that department to handle the increased power. Do a search on what folks are doing to beef up their Wild Daggers, Twin Detonators, Double Blazes and Dual Hunters. These twin motor trucks are the same as the BF Extreme but with an extra gearbox up front. They are commonly modified to higher power levels which they seem to be able to handle. One site that caters to them is the RC Daggerweb I believe.

For dogbones you will need OFNA Pirate rear dogbones, without the small rubber o rings in the drive cups, or apparently Hotshot 2007 dogbones. I'm afraid that the diff will just destroy itself under brushless power. The only fix I know of is a custom built diff that is avaialable to rcdaggerweb.com members.

That is the site to check out for answers to these questions and also if you check out project cold fusion on rckingdom.co.uk.

Hope that helps.
