Hi there, i'm new to this board :)

I am just getting back into the R/C cras, (I had a Mauri Ninja, Tamiya Monster Beetle and also a Kyosho RS2000 nitro! It seems my addiction has started again these past few weeks after seeing a Hornet in a local model shop and realising the old cars are coming back..it's great! :D

I am keeping my fingers crossed that Tamiya are going to re-release the Monster Beetle as I think there is a call for it, and everyone seems to have been talking about this next re-re for ages now!!

However I understand after reading pages and pages online, that Mauri no longer produce radio controlled cars, which is a huge shame as my favourite car (and first ever!) was a Mauri Ninja!! I always fancied a hunter too! Does anyone know if this is the case? If so where would the parts be available for them as I guess if they only now make bb guns, the parts will no longer be made, unless of course some Tamiya parts fit these cars also?

I need to wait until I get some cash and then I want to start all over again with the old cars - I actually quit fancy a Hornet and Lunchbox too - Hornet because my mate always had one and they never broke down when my Ninja always did, (still makes me want to buy a Ninya and build it again though - weird this addiction isn't it?!!) and a lunchbox because they look funcky and I remember them as a kid! :)

One other thing, can I ask if 'NIB' means 'New In Box'?

Thanks and it's great to meet you all! :)

NIB means "Gonna cost you loads!"

But seriously you're right. Oh and Welcome! And I don't think Tamiya parts will fit Marui at all, at least not without modification

Welcome Mate,

Glad to see you are back in the hobby. Yes NIB = new in box, NIP = new in package, NB = new built, etc.

Down at the bottom of the forum home is a link for Marui and you might find some members who can answer some questions there too.

Cheers

Hello and welcome! I am new here too! Dont worry you will soon be into the swing of things! And skint too! LMAO

I tell you i have never known a hobby that sucks you in so much! I only wish i had got into the vintage scene sooner.

You are so right there, There are so many facets to this hobby, most of it facinating and nearly all of it expensive! Speaking of sucking you in, I now panic a little bit if I can't get on TC on a daily basis!

LOL..... I am not there yet!

Give it time!

Or how about being annoyed with yourself cos you forgot to bid on something that went for cheap?!

Yep that is a bad one! I saw a hilux old 3 speed go for 100 on ebay, i was humming and harring on the buy it now price of 100 pound as i had spent my budget....... and went for it! But as i was buying so was someone else!!! I felt sick all night after that LOL and still do talking about it now!

I doubt Tamiys is going to re-re the Monster beetle. However it would be easy enough to take a re-refrog chassis coupled with a Blitzer Beetle body and a few other parts to make your own.

Hi guys and thanks so much for the responses :lol:

You know, I remember when I was a kid, I would go to the local model shop after school (and every single weekend!) and just sit down in front of the TV they had there with a loop of all the old Tamiya videos playing all the latest releases....it's so cool to see them on here for download too!. Oh reminiscing about old times is so much fun (and has got me right back into this too!) :D

OK so do we think there is a possibility Tamiya will re-release the Monster Beetle at all? Shodog, can I ask why you don't think they will when they have released others now? Also does anyone know if Tamiya are making an official profit from the re-releases? I am sure they are, and if so surely that would mean they will continue with others?? Whilst on the subject of re-releases, is the Hornet etc exactly the same or are some of the parts different? I think I read somewhere that the speed controller is different? I notice that 'ESC' means Electronic Speed Controller (is that right?!) and also there is another abbreviation for a speed controller but I can't remember what the abbreviation is and what the different speed controller is, does anyone know the answer to this?!

Finally I presume unless you are rich, trying to get ahold of an unbuilt Mauri Ninja is like trying to get my footy team (Crystal Palace) to win the Champions league? :D

ESC = electronic speed controller & MSC = mechanical speed controller

MSC's are there to show you where to install the newer ESC at and then be thrown away

Ahhh right, so a MSC is basically useless then? I can't see a reason for them??

Not useless, just old technology. Think of MSCs as carburetors and ESCs as fuel injection. You can keep a carb on an an old car and it will work fine, but there's no reason to except originality. If you convert to FI it will drive better.

Do you have a pic of both so I can see the difference?

go to towerhobbies.com and plug in these sku #s [ sorry i don't know how to add URLs that work :( ]

ESC = 45029

MSC = 51198

tamiya.usa is a great place to get info on the models and parts too, i just like tower's pictures better for these items.

and i should say that the MSC is not utterly useless, its just that i don't like them. i think they work fine if you maintain them and keep them free of dirt and debris, but i just never liked messing with them.

some folks like them because they were original equipment and they grew up with them. by the time i got into the hobby the ESC was standard and i think they just perform so much better than the old technology.

MSCs remind me of the old points and condenser that were in my 1968 vw bug when i bought it. i promptly removed it and threw it away the 1st time it needed maintenance and replaced it with an electronic ignition module. nearly the same analogy.

I know what you mean now. It would appear all of the R/C cars I ever built or owned had ESC's..shows how long it has been since the last time I built a car hey! :lol:

The Ninja was followed by the Shogun, which was just an upgraded Ninja. Spares for Maruis are very hard to come by as of course spares were only made while the kits were available, but the usual source of parts is either ebay the Tamiyaclub traderooms. For a full list of Maruis, check out RetroR/Cs collection
