Does anyone in or around Cambridge have any suggestions for good places to take cars? I found a couple myself - detailed below.

1) Industrial estate off the Tesco mini roundabout in Milton. Turn into the estate here and take the first right. Park up on this section of road. You've got two options here. On Sunday and much of Saturday the long road curving off to the left is locked, but you can walk around the barrier. This gives you access to a long stretch of rough tarmac with a few speedbumps to jump off. At the end of this section is a mixture of concrete and tarmac, and some gravel/dirt usually with puddles and potholes, so the area is great for buggies and trucks.

2) Same place above but right where you park is a loading bay area with some white shutters, this is SMOOTH concrete and well sized for touring cars, lots of sideways sliding action to be had here. There's a strip of rocky mess at the edge of it which may be good for crawling - I'll test that this weekend.

3) Science park, various carparks many of which are huge and utterly deserted at the weekends. Also the Napp (I think) building, has a secondary works entrance near the WorldPay one - there's a good mix of road/scrub/wavy grassland here.

4) Sainsburies car park. If you can avoid the screaming Nova WRX STI (they wish) sheds, which aren't often there anymore, their overflow carpark is a big oval, and lit all night despite the shop itself being closed. Mwuahahaha.

Any more? If anyone wants to get together and pointlessly bash a few cars around at the weekends, let me know.

While a bit of a distance, there are a couple of clubs that race in Bury St Edmunds. The first is run by the LHS and welcomes all skill levels. Racing is for the most part touring cars indoors on a Wednesday night at this time of year with few rules. You can run any 1/10th touring car as long as the motor is 19 turns or above and you are not using foam or spiked tyres. You are supposed o get there for about 6:15 although you can pre-book and arrive later. They also race alternate sunday mornings outside starting at about 9am although again you can pre book. More details can be found on http://www.modeljunction.com

The other club is BRCA affiliated although does not strictly follow the rules. You can use foams in non league meets here although i don't think you can run spikes, motor limit is 17 turns. Racing here is on a Monday night and is from around 7:30 onwards. Unfortunately I don't know the website for this club although I believe minjosh does as he races there. I go to both regularly when I am not in uni and find both a have a friendly atmosphere with people willing to help newcomers. The Wednesday night club also has a parts shop that carries a limited supply of bits should you break or want to go faster on the night.

Thought it might be fun to try and get together a few people who just like bashing, I had a look around for local clubs and the only thing I found was again touring cars. Proper touring racing isn't my thing, I do own one now, but it's purely for driving randomly around smooth surfaces and fishtailing :)

Looks like around here at least, the art of finding some spare ground and just thrashing buggies about is dead. Willing to be proven wrong :) Shame I missed the Kent thing, was too ill and too budy with work to go.

i have found that school play grounds at weekends and nights are good. but i do like car parks and like you said have to watch out for the 6.0litre V12 novas. idiots! would love to meet up for thrashing around. i have a vectra TL01 touring car and a Grasshopper2.

www.burybuggyclub.com is the better of the 2 racing clubs here in the area. Monday nights from 7-930 is what they run. If you want to just run around a track, come up to RAF Lakenheath and I'll get you on base for on road and off road tracks.
