I wonder if this is Typischdesign's collection. when I translate the site it states the guy Name is Olivier which is the same first name as typisch design.

They changed the name of the guy - see asterisk at the name and quote at end of article - maybe as a prevention against telephone terror from other RC-enthusiasts - like us 'round here.

I'd say there's a good chance it is our friend Typischdesign, just look at some of the race modified cars on the table and the gorgeous Hotshot. If it is at last his collection is revealed.

The photos of his store room with the kit boxes looks more like a well stocked store until you start looking at what the kits are B)

And good to see r/c collecting making a magazine article.

I wish I had such a collection... You might also want a good insurance on that too... Imagine having that... I wouldn't need a collection that big, but there are so many kits between them that I would love to have, or at least driven once or twice :D

And looking at the nice and flat floor, if he has some space left there (which he probably hasn't if I look at this) he could make his own indoor track B)

Love his shelving in the warehouse!!

Hope its climate controlled & air filtered with positive pressure inside... saves dusting! B)

That's an ebay username - when I was trying to get a decent Landjump, he was always outbidding me.

Only ever dealt with him once though, and that was for a Varicom Silver Fox he bought off me.

Even if it's not the same guy, that's a sweet collection ;)

And good to see r/c collecting making a magazine article.

My collection made it into Carl*s Cars two years ago, 8 pages all in all. I sent a copy of the mag to Chris/Netsmith - and kept one for myself. (it's a fashionable magazine about cars and the people that own them, sold world wide i think)

That said, this article and collection is gigantic, mine's not - I translated the article using Babelfish, really facinating to see people taking it to this level...

not his one then? :D

One's the Tamiya collection, the other's the warehouse for the Kyosho, Nichimo, AYK etc etc... :)

Then there's the RUNNERS...

My wife wants to know why i can't shelf mine on their sides.... but i think they're just shells, anyone??

(she thinks that will reduce storage area by 23%... yes i married an accountant)

What i wanna know myself... where do you find ziplock bags big enough to fit a Bruiser?? :D i'm impressed!

What an amazing collection, fantastic to see he is running cars as well and not just storing them. I would love to know where he gets those bags for storage as that iseexactly what im after for storing models in on a shelf.

I love the shot of the kyosho room where he is holding a kit box what a way to spend your free time browsing them and deciding what one to build next.

largest they offer is 15x20".. that'd barely fit a touring car

Bruiser, my good man, BRUISER! B)

Something like a 50L garbagebag in a clear ziplock... B)

What I've heard he outbidded everyone so he's well fortunated.

I also heard he had a staff that builds models for him.

Nice combo: nuts and wealthy. B)

Great collection indeed!

B) He what?!? B)

If you can't or won't play with your own toys, then they're wasted on you.

That said, is he hiring? B)

Wow, what does this individual do in his spare time? There is just not enough hrs in a day just to look at and maintain his collection.

One part of me say I want to have a collection just like his and another part of me say thanks but no thanks. I guess is really where your comfort level is besides having the means to carry it out.

Is a real eye openner!!!!

So impressive :)

I would certainly fly overseas to visit his showroom, if he opened it to the public (shame it wasn't ready last year when I was in Germany :P )

I'm particularly impressed by the fact that he seems interested in just about everything. I can even see Nikkos, and other toys. A man after my own heart in that he likes the simple ones, as well as the more famous collectible ones...

Not much more I can say really. People like this make me feel so tiny as a 'collector' (am I even a collector?) - I feel like I don't even qualify to say much about these kinds of vast arsenals! (What's next? Will someone pop up somewhere with an Area 51-style underground facility, containing a NIB of every R/C car ever made?)

One small thing: I've heard a while ago (and the article confirms) that he was a late starter to collecting. A friend introduced him to R/C later in life. I mention this because I wonder if his interest might wane one day, leading him to sell his collection off. Nostalgia is a powerful force that can stop you from ever parting with your models. I'm just making the comment that it's unusual for such a huge collection not to have any roots in childhood nostalgia. There have been "buy everything" collectors in the past who've dumped most of their collection on eBay once they found they had no more mountains to climb, so I'm just speculating.

Or maybe I'm just hoping he'll have a Fire Sale, because I wish I could have some of the things he has :P

No, I'm still content with my humble few cars, slowly gathered and all special to me...

cheers,

H.

Quite pathetic if he does have his own crew to build (and maybe also maintain in that case) the cars for him... But it would be lovely to see that collection someday... :P He could open his own R/C museum probably...

Hi guys & gals:

Having read both the Spiegel article and your comments with great interest, I couldn't help but do a little web research.

As luck would have it I found the following - might lead to the identity of the mysterious collector ???:

Sorry, no personal details allowed. Most serious collectors already know who it is from our dealings with him, and he is a very private person. This magazine article is the first anyone has seen of his collection, if he wanted to make the information and his collection well known he would have become involved in the collecting community either here or in one of the more focussed groups on the internet.

Hope this doesn't bring Olivier in any trouble. Maybe it is just another Olivier and collects empty beer bottles from around the world instead of r/c cars???

Anyhoo, thought it was worth posting.

If you do, please don't mention that you got the info from me .................

Best regards,

Dabigboozz

Hi guys & gals:

Did a bit more digging on our mysterious friend:

Seems Olivier is also into windmills. Well at least according to the following website:

See above.

Again , please don't go calling/e-mailing up Olivier and pester him with any "special requests".

Best regards,

Dabigboozz

I have dealt with Olivier for the time he has been collecting.

He is a very private man about his collection (until this article) - and also has a deep passion for it.

Yes - he did start his R/C fascination late in life - however that is neither here nor there. He is a pleasure to talk to on the phone and has gained quite a knowledge for the brands and models in a realtively small space of time.

Top guy - and a real gentleman.

Cheers

Darryn
